How nice it is to drink a glass of your favorite cocktail in the evening - alcoholic or not, it doesn't matter, it all depends on your desire and taste. I must say a huge thank you to the person who first thought of mixing several ingredients, as a result of which the first cocktail was born.

Some argue that the word "cocktail" comes from the Spanish expression cola di gallo - the tail of a rooster. So for the outward resemblance, they called the root of one of the plants with which the bartender from the town of Campeche on the Gulf of Mexico mixed the drinks he prepared. American sailors, who did not miss a single bar, liked to visit this one, in Campeche. When asked what kind of instrument he had in his hands, the polite bartender answered in English: "Cocktail" - "rooster's tail". There is another story that connects the origin of the "cocktail" with the "rooster's tail". This story belongs to James Fenimore Cooper. According to him, the first cocktail was prepared in the 70s of the 18th century by Elizabeth Flanagan, a canker of the troops of General Washington. One day, she served the officers a drink of rum, rye whiskey, and fruit juices, adorning the glasses with feathers from the tails of fighting cocks. One of the officers, a Frenchman by birth, at the sight of such decoration of glasses, exclaimed: "Vive le cog's tail!" ("Long live the cock's tail!"). This one is half french, half English phrase everyone liked it, and the drink began to be called a "cocktail" - a cock's tail.

To date, there are many recipes for all kinds of cocktails. But among them there are those who are 100 percent present in any bar in the world, whether french restaurant or an American diner.

In the casino, such varieties of this cocktail as "Derby Daiquiri", "Peach Daiquiri", "Banana Daiquiri", etc., are in the greatest demand. Fruit pulp is added to them. The drink was invented in the town of Daiquiri at the beginning of the twentieth century. In 1896, a certain Jennings Cox (American mining engineer), cursing the heat, mixed the above-mentioned rum with lime juice for himself and his friends, and not just mix, but pour these ingredients on ice cubes. This is how the Daiquiri (Daiquiri) cocktail turned out. And Ernest Hemingway promoted this invention in his novels, he was a big fan of this drink. And in 1893, during the celebration of Cuban independence, an American army officer toasted a free Cuba by mixing Bacardi rum, symbolizing the free spirit of Cuba, with Coca-Cola, America's new drink. The slogan of those days - "Long live free Cuba!" forever preserved in the name of the Cuba Libre cocktail.
The popularity of the daiquiri skyrocketed when F. Scott Fitzgerald mentioned it in his book Beyond Paradise, published in 1920. In short: It is best to make cocktails with fruit juices: they reduce the harm from alcohol. From hot, carbonated alcoholic beverages, intoxication sets in faster - but it also passes faster. Milk and coffee aggravate alcohol poisoning. But the worst thing is to mix different alcoholic drinks with each other: this threatens with severe intoxication and a hangover.

What can you mix alcohol with? What is undesirable to mix alcohol with

drunkenness will come faster, but it will pass faster

due to additives aggravate intoxication and hangovers

faster onset and end of intoxication

you can only if you drink quite a bit, but in large quantities it aggravates a hangover
- unclarified, with pulp (not nectars)
improve the processing of alcohol, relieve hangovers

in combination with alcohol is difficult to digest, exacerbates alcohol poisoning

speeds up the processing of alcohol, allows you to drink longer and not get drunk

bad for the heart and nervous system depletes the body
, drinking water
makes the drink less strong

a mixture of alcoholic beverages from different raw materials unnecessarily burdens the liver, causing more severe intoxication and a hangover

The links in the table lead to more detailed explanations of what alcohol can be safely mixed with, and what is better not to. Also read below about the features of the impact and a detailed analysis of some in terms of the compatibility of their components.

Mixing drinks the right way

The simpler the composition alcoholic drink the easier it is for the liver to deal with. The perfect drink in this sense is vodka: in quality vodka there is nothing but alcohol and water. There are drinks that are very difficult to digest with a lot of impurities that complicate the work of the liver and therefore cause more severe intoxication and a hangover compared to pure alcohol: moonshine , whiskey , tequila .

By mixing alcoholic beverages made from different raw materials, we load our liver various jobs, namely, it mainly processes alcohol and its decay products. Different drinks for the liver is a more difficult task. As a result, we get more drunk and get a worse hangover in the morning.

To minimize the harm from drinking, try not to mix alcoholic drinks from different raw materials in one cocktail: for example, vodka (grain alcohol) with brandy ( fruit alcohol), wine (grape spirit) with rum (spirit from sugar cane).

It is preferable to drink one alcoholic drink all evening, for example: vodka and a vodka + juice cocktail. Or at least alcoholic drinks, but made from the same raw materials: for example, grape wine And quality cognac(poor quality can be diluted with grain alcohol).

Popular alcoholic cocktails. We study the composition

And now let's see how the components of some popular cocktails are combined with each other.

Blue Lagoon

vodka, Blue Curasao liqueur, lemonade (sprite, seven up), lemon, ice

B-52

Kahlua coffee liqueur cream liqueur(Baileys, Irish Cream), orange liqueur(Grand Marnier, Cointreau)

Intoxication from this cocktail will be instantaneous, especially if it is set on fire in accordance with all the rules. And besides, strong enough, like a future hangover. After all, all the alcoholic drinks that make up this cocktail are made from different raw materials: for example, Kahlua is made from sugar cane, Baileys is made from grain alcohol, and Grand Marnier is made from grape alcohol. To this mixture, which loads the liver, coffee is also added (it is part of the coffee liqueur), which, in combination with alcohol, has Negative influence on the heart and nervous system. In general, if you still intend to drink this drink, then we recommend that you think about tomorrow in advance and take the advice from an article by an experienced toxicologist “How to avoid a severe hangover and reduce harm to the body from alcohol”.

Bloody Mary

vodka, tomato juice, lemon juice, tabasco sauce, Worcestershire sauce, salt, celery, black pepper

An impressive amount of various spicy and hot spices slows down the oxidation of alcohol. Therefore, both intoxication and a hangover after such a combination last longer than usual. Because of these seasonings, a hangover can turn out to be fast and strong. Doctors generally do not recommend combining alcohol with spicy foods. Lemon juice usually alleviates a hangover, but there is too little of it in this cocktail for it to somehow improve the situation. And although tomato juice does not worsen the matter, it does not improve it either.

Sex on the beach

vodka, peach liqueur, cranberry juice, orange or pineapple juice

A very good cocktail in terms of its effect on the body. Peach liqueur varies in composition, but is often made from peaches and grain alcohol. In vodka, alcohol is also grain. And alcoholic drinks from the same raw materials more or less combine well and do not overload the liver. The addition of fruit and berry juices speeds up the metabolism, allowing you to drink longer and not get drunk, and the next day - less hangover.

margarita

tequila, citrus liqueur (Cointreau, Triple Sec), lemon or lime juice

Tequila contains many impurities (esters and higher alcohols), which give a versatile load on the liver. Even by itself, this drink causes severe hangover. And in the Margarita cocktail, we also observe a mixture of alcoholic beverages from different raw materials: tequila is made from blue agave, and citrus liqueur is based on grain alcohol. There is too little lemon juice in the composition of the cocktail for it to greatly affect the processing of alcohol for the better.

Screwdriver

vodka, orange juice, ice

A great option for those who want to drink a delicious alcoholic cocktail and get a minimum of harm to the body. Vodka is the purest alcoholic drink quality vodka consists only of alcohol and water), so our liver copes with it more easily than with more complex drinks. And alcohol combined with fruit juice is always less harmful than a single alcohol (ceteris paribus). There is twice as much orange juice in the Screwdriver as vodka, so it can partially mitigate the negative effects of alcohol on the body. As a result, both intoxication and the subsequent hangover will be much easier than from other alcoholic cocktails mentioned on this page.

Alcoholic drinks with mineral water

Carbonated alcoholic beverages enter the blood faster, because due to the bubbles, the effective area of alcohol absorption through the mucous membranes increases. Therefore, intoxication and a hangover come faster - but they also pass faster. It does not affect the quality of the hangover in any way.

Therefore, be careful: carbonated drinks can quickly “fill up” to an ugly state.

Why it's better not to drink alcohol with sweet soda

Sweet carbonated drinks have a complex composition: dyes, flavors, and so on. By themselves, they are harmless in the doses in which they are added by manufacturers.

But during the feast, they additionally load the liver, distracting it from the important work of processing and neutralizing alcohol. Therefore, a hangover from a mixture of alcohol and a sugary soda will probably be more severe than if you drink a pure drink.

Also keep in mind that margaritas and pina coladas should be drunk slowly, otherwise you can lose control too quickly.

How much Coke won't hurt

If you drink just a little bit of alcohol, then the cola mixture will reduce the hangover (provided that there is one at all). But if you drink a lot of alcohol with cola, then such a mixture will exacerbate the central component of a hangover due to the caffeine contained in Coca-Cola - as well as any mixture of substances that both depress and stimulate the central nervous system.

Alcoholic energy drinks with caffeine

A mixture of alcohol and caffeine (alcoholic cocktail with coffee or ready-made alcoholic energy drink) has two opposite effects on the body at the same time: caffeine excites the nervous system, and alcohol suppresses excitation. But these substances do not neutralize each other, their action is superimposed on one another and depletes the body much more than alcohol and caffeine separately. As a result, there is a load on the whole body, and especially on the heart. The same happens if you drink an alcoholic drink with a cup of coffee.

In three months, at least, the energy and plastic reserves spent by the body to fight the alcohol-caffeine mixture will be restored. (Plastic costs are the costs of a substance for the construction and restoration of organs, tissues and cells.) A mixture of alcohol and coffee is especially harmful for people who already have diseases of the heart or nervous system.

But one cup of coffee 20 minutes before drinking, on the contrary, will do you good: it will increase the production of microsomal enzymes in the liver, which will make it easier for you to process alcohol. This effect begins 20-40 minutes after drinking coffee and lasts an hour and a half. But don't drink coffee during the evening.

Should you combine alcohol with milk?

There are a lot of useful substances in milk, but when mixed with alcohol, they will be poorly absorbed by the body, and as a result you will get more harm than good.

Milk is a rather difficult product to digest; during drinking, it unnecessarily burdens the pancreas, thereby aggravating intoxication and a future hangover. And tryptophan, contained in milk, provokes the production of intestinal poisons, which further enhances alcohol poisoning.

Alcoholic cocktails with juice

Other things being equal, alcohol with fruit juice is less harmful than alcohol alone. Apple, grape and lemon juices are especially useful during a feast. They speed up the metabolism, allow you to drink longer and not get drunk, and also ease the upcoming hangover.

But this applies specifically to juices - unclarified and with pulp. The nectars that fill the store shelves contain only 40-50 percent juice, and the rest is water, sugar and additives (the latter do more harm than good). A good option- squeeze the juice yourself.

But from an alcoholic cocktail with tomato juice (the famous "Bloody Mary") you should not expect much. Although tomato juice contains vitamins, as well as malic and succinic acids useful for metabolism, it also contains oxalic acid(oxalate), which simultaneously reduces the effect of both malic and succinic acid. Therefore, tomato juice does not give any special advantages compared to ordinary liquids.

Hot drinks

Mulled wine, grog and similar alcoholic cocktails are digested faster due to their temperature. But more rapid intoxication it usually goes faster too. The quality of the hangover does not affect whether the alcoholic cocktail is warmed up or not.

What is good alcoholic cocktail with tonic

Pokhmelye.rf site expert, toxicologist Stanislav Radchenko recommends taking such a cocktail before drinking as a “boosting dose”: 150 ml of tonic plus 50-70 g of vodka or 20-25 g of alcohol. If you drink it in the period from 5 to 2.5 hours before the main use of alcohol, then the enzymes necessary for the breakdown of alcohol are activated in the body in advance. And with the onset of drinking, your body will meet alcohol already fully armed, starting to neutralize it without delay.

Do I need to add ice

Ordinary ice (frozen water) dilutes alcohol, making the drink not so strong. Alcohol diluted with water or ice is less aggressive on the mucous membrane gastrointestinal tract, therefore, it is recommended for use by those who have problems with the gastrointestinal tract: gastritis, esophagitis, etc.

Ice will not affect the quality of a hangover, but it can change the taste of the drink: when cooled, the volatility of aromatic substances decreases. Therefore, for example, the taste and smell of good whiskey combined with ice can become less rich and interesting; but if you dilute it with water room temperature- something like that unwanted effect will not be. In general, adding ice to alcohol or not is more a matter of personal taste.

So, it is preferable to mix alcohol with natural juice: it is not harmful, but even useful. But about what kind of food it is better to combine alcohol with: in it, a toxicologist explains which snack helps the body cope better with alcohol and significantly reduces the manifestations of a hangover, and which snack is better not to put on the table so as not to completely ruin your tomorrow morning .

An alcoholic cocktail is a drink in which alcoholic beverages are used as one or more ingredients. The cocktail itself is obtained by mixing several liquids, and sometimes with the addition of spices and fruits. What are the most popular cocktails?

What are cocktails? Cocktails are a mixture of several drinks (usually no more than 5 ingredients), plus additional ones used in very small quantities, such as salt, spices, bitters, etc. The composition of cocktails can be very different. History of the cocktail
The first legend, the most romantic, dates back to 1770. In those distant times, the owner of a bar located near New York lost his beloved rooster. The owner announced that whoever finds the loss will marry his daughter. After some time, one army officer brought his rooster to the owner of the bar, which by that time had managed to lose his tail. The owner had no choice but to announce to all the visitors of the bar about the upcoming wedding. His daughter, who worked in her father's establishment, began to mix different drinks, which immediately began to be called "cock tail" (cock tail) - a cock's tail.

The second legend says that in the 15th century in France, in the province of Charente, wines and spirits were already mixed, calling the mixture coquetelle (cocktail). From this subsequently came the cocktail itself.
The third legend tells that the first cocktail appeared in England. And the word "cocktail" itself is borrowed from the lexicon of racing enthusiasts, who called mixed-breed horses, that is, those with mixed blood, the nickname cock tail because of their tails sticking out like roosters.

Having received his cocktail, he drank it with such pleasure that he aroused genuine interest among his colleagues and they asked the bartender to prepare the same drink for them. Another legend tells that in Chicago there was a bar called the "Blood Bucket" and a charming girl Mary frequented it, and the Bloody Mary cocktail was named after her.
