Is Coca-Cola harmful to children? Doctor Komarovsky answers. Use of Coca-Cola in everyday life

Everyone knows what Cola is. To say that this is, to put it mildly, not a healthy drink is no longer new. We decided to show 20 ways how to use cola for good. Realistically, you will be surprised how amazingly healthy this drink can be if you know right ways use. When we found this article on English language, we simply could not help but translate it into Russian, because indeed, absolutely everyone needs to know this! So:

  1. Removes greasy stains on clothes, fabrics.
  2. Removes Rust - Dip a rag in Cola and wrap the rusted item. Also "unlocks" rusty bolts.
  3. Removes blood stains from clothing.
  4. Cleans oil stains from garage floors. Pour over the stain, let it soak, and rinse.
  5. Kills snails and slugs. The acid kills them.
  6. Cleans burnt pots. Let the pot sour in Cola, then rinse.
  7. Descales kettles (as well as pots).
  8. Cleans car battery terminals - pour a little on each.
  9. Cleans engines. By the way, the drivers of this company have been using it for many decades!
  10. Makes coins shine - soak dull coins in it.
  11. Removes stains from tiles: Pour on the floor, wipe after a few minutes.
  12. Dissolves teeth. In a sealed container, for a long time, but it works!

  19. Cola and aluminum foil can bring chrome parts to a stunning shine.
  20. Removes paint from metal furniture. Soak a towel in Cola, and place it on the paint.

What methods of using Cola do you know? And why do we need departments of household chemicals in stores if there is Cola?

If you drink it inside, then:

After 10 minutes - the body is dealt a devastating blow by the sugar contained in Cola - the delay and harshness of the blow are caused by the presence of phosphoric acid, which slows down the action of sugar.

After 20 minutes - a jump in insulin in the blood.

After 40 minutes, the absorption of caffeine is completely completed. Pupils dilate. Blood pressure rises as the liver releases sugar into the blood. Adenosine receptors are blocked, thereby preventing drowsiness.

After 45 minutes - The body releases the hormone dopamine, which stimulates the pleasure center in the brain - the effect of heroin.

After an hour - phosphoric acid binds calcium, magnesium and zinc in the gastrointestinal tract, which support metabolism. This calcium is excreted from the body in the urine.

After an hour, the diuretic effect of the drink begins, calcium, magnesium and zinc are excreted from the body (as a result, from the bones, more on that below), as well as sodium. Irritability and depression set in. All the water that came with Coca-Cola is excreted from the body.

The process of calcium loss by the body due to Coca occurs in three stages:

  • Carbonic acid irritates the stomach.
  • The stomach "heals" irritation in the only way it can - the only antacid it has is calcium, which it takes from the blood.
  • The blood, which is now deficient in calcium, replenishes it by washing it out of the bones. If this is not done, muscle and brain function will be greatly weakened.

Thus, Cola causes calcium deficiency for three reasons:

  • Carbon dioxide,
  • Phosphoric acid (present in most types of coca),
  • The drink is drunk instead of calcium-containing milk and water. Yes, these are not super sources of calcium, but nevertheless, sources, not eliminaters of calcium!

And finally,

Anatomy of the company's most advertised drink Coca-Light:

Carbonated water- Increases the acidity of gastric juice, provokes flatulence. In fact, water plus carbon dioxide equals carbonic acid, which is poison.

E150d - food coloring obtained by processing sugar with the addition of a chemical. Coca use ammonium sulfate.

E952 - sodium cyclamate. For a long time has been banned in many countries around the world as a carcinogen. In 1979, WHO rehabilitated him. (The question from us is who believes the WHO? They have been burned so many times around the world as an organization that provokes corruption in healthcare).

E950 - acesulfame potassium. Degrades performance of cardio-vascular system. Contains aspartic acid, which is addictive nervous system and causes blindness.

E951 - aspartame. When heated to +30 degrees (and what is the body temperature, so is it for a minute?) It decomposes into formaldehyde (phenylalanine is a class A carcinogen) and highly toxic methanol. It is practically not washed off with saliva from the oral mucosa, as a result, after its use, a sugary nasty taste remains in the mouth, which they try to wash off with a new portion of the drink. Independent studies have proven that long-term use causes: fainting, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, palpitations, weight gain, irritability, anxiety, memory loss, blurry vision, fainting, joint pain, depression, infertility, hearing loss and more other. Aspartame can also cause the following diseases: brain tumors, MS (multiple sclerosis), epilepsy, Graves' disease, chronic fatigue, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, mental retardation and tuberculosis*.

E338 - orthophosphoric acid. We have already talked about her. A substance used for the production of refractory materials, metalworking, and fertilizers - phosphates. It interferes with the absorption of calcium and iron, causing weakening of the bones and osteoporosis.

E330 - Citric acid - safe.

E211 - sodium benzoate. Banned for use in some countries. In Europe, it is recommended to withdraw it from circulation. Carcinogen. If it reacts with ascorbic acid, then forms benzene - the strongest carcinogen. It has been proven that it damages DNA, as a result of Parkinson's disease, cirrhosis of the liver, and so on.

In principle, the liquid is useful, but it is not clear why it is not sold on the shelves household chemicals, but in the product departments.

* A separate article is worthy of the story of what lies the creators of Aspartame sought to get the US Food and Drug Administration to approve this chemical for human consumption. Somehow we will find time, we will translate this "detective".

Coca-Cola is a popular drink all over the world, known in more than 200 countries around the world. Popular rumor ascribes to him special properties curative in case of poisoning.

Is it possible to drink this product in case of intoxication? How does it affect the human body? Is it possible to drink cola in case of poisoning and does it help with nausea? You will read about this and much more in our article.

Is it possible to drink Coca-Cola when poisoning?

There is no single answer to this question, since the potential benefit or harm of this drink in case of intoxication depends on a number of factors. On the one hand, modern nutritionists do not recommend using this product (especially on a regular basis).

Also, it should be borne in mind that some forms of poisoning(For example, alcohol intoxication in the reactive phase or damage by salts of heavy metals, acids) in combination with carbonated sweet liquids aggravate the patient's condition.

Coca Cola in case of classical poisoning has the following effect:

What is a drink?

Coca-Cola is one of the most recognizable drinks in the world, invented back in 1886 and originally distributed as medicine from disorders of the nervous system. At the same time, its composition for a modern person was quite unusual - it is an extract of coca leaves and nuts tropical tree cola. The first component later became the main production of cocaine.

Over time, Cola-Cola has undergone dozens of changes. Outdated ingredients were replaced with safer and more modern ones, the proportion of bottles changed, myths about especially useful ones were created and destroyed, or vice versa, as much as possible. harmful properties drink.

What is the modern day Coca-Cola? Exact recipe with concentration values and other parameters (including the spices used) is considered a trade secret, known only to the management of the concern and the main technologists of production lines around the world.

According to the official general information, the composition of the product includes purified and carbonated water, natural flavors, sugar, caramel dye, phosphoric acid, which acts as an acidity regulator, as well as caffeine.

There are no even moderately dangerous ingredients in Coca-Cola, so it does not have a specific pathological effect on the body.

However, there are a number of restrictions and features of the use of the drink - this is the moderation of drinking, as well as the refusal to use products in case of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, pancreas, diabetes and childhood.

The effect of the drink on the body

A number of independent studies show that regular use a large number cola for several years or more, it can be one of the secondary provoking factors in the development of the following problems with the body:

  • Irritation of the mucous membranes of the stomach and esophagus. This is especially true for those patients who already have gastrointestinal diseases, such as gastritis;
  • Insulin burst induction. Quality colas usually contain sugar, not sugar substitutes. If you drink a drink in large quantities, then this product is broken down into glucose, after which it can provoke hyperglycemia with an additional release of insulin;

Coca Cola is perhaps the most popular drink in the world. But do we know what we are drinking? Let's try to figure it out. And the information caught from the World Wide Web will help us in this.

You will not believe...

Put a steak in a bowl of Coca-Cola and you won't find it there in 2 days. To clean your toilet, pour a can of Coke down the sink and leave it on for an hour. To remove rust stains from a car's chrome bumper, rub the bumper with a crumpled sheet of paper. aluminum foil dipped in Coca Cola.

To remove corrosion from car batteries, pour a can of Coke on the batteries and the corrosion will disappear. To loosen a rusted bolt, dampen a rag with Coca Cola and wrap it around the bolt for a few minutes. To clean clothes from soiling, pour a can of Coca Cola on a pile of dirty clothes, add washing powder and machine wash as usual. Cola will help get rid of stains. Also, the Coca-Cola story claims that in many US states, the traffic police always have 2 gallons of Coke in their patrol car to wash blood off the highway after an accident. Coca Cola will also clean the windows in the car from road dust.

Composition of coca cola

The active ingredient in Coca Cola is phosphoric acid. Its pH is 2.8. It can dissolve your nails in 4 days.

To transport coca-cola concentrate, the truck must be equipped with special pallets designed for highly corrosive materials.

Coke distributors have been using it for 20 years to clean their truck engines...

Ingredients of Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola Light without caffeine.

Ingredients: Agua carbonatada, E150d, E952, E950, E951, E338, E330, Aromas, E211

1. Agua carbonatada - carbonated water.

2. E952 - Cyclamic acid and its sodium, potassium and calcium salts. Sugar substitute. Cyclamate is a synthetic chemical sweet taste 200 times sweeter than sugar, used as an artificial sweetener. Refers to substances prohibited for use in human food, as it is a carcinogen that causes cancer.

In 1969, by order of the Federal Agency for Food Products and medicines(FDA) 34 FR 17063 is banned in the United States because, like saccharin and aspartame, it has been shown to cause bladder cancer in rats.

Banned in Canada the same year. Banned in Japan, South Korea and Singapore in 1975. Banned for use in the beverage industry and in Indonesia.

In 1979, the World Health Organization (WHO) rehabilitated cyclamates, recognizing them as harmless ...

3. E150d - dye - sugar color 4, obtained by technology (CARAMEL 4 - Ammonia-sulphite). That is, sugar color ( burnt sugar) is obtained by processing sugar, at certain temperatures, with or without the addition of chemicals. IN this case add ammonium sulfate.

4. E950 (acesulfame potassium) - 200 times sweeter than sucrose. A mixture of acesulfame potassium and aspartame is widely used in soft drinks.

Pros. It is stored for a long time, does not cause allergic reactions and is not high in calories.

Minuses. It contains methyl ester, which impairs the functioning of the cardiovascular system, and aspartic acid, which has a stimulating effect on the nervous system and can, over time, become addictive. Acesulfame is poorly soluble.

Safe dose - no more than 1 g per day.

5. E951 (aspartame) - a sweetener for diabetics, consisting of two amino acids (dipeptide) - asparagine and phenylalanine. It is also recommended for people who control their weight.

National Association soft drinks(NSDA), representing 95% of the soft drink companies in the US, filed a protest published in the Congressional Report on May 7, 1985, describing the chemical instability of aspartame.

After a few weeks in a hot climate (or being heated to 30 degrees Celsius (86 degrees Fahrenheit), most of the aspartame in soda water breaks down into formaldehyde, methanol, phenylalanine, etc.

Swallowed, methanol (the methyl or wood alcohol that killed or blinded thousands of drinkers) is converted to formaldehyde, then to formic acid (ant sting poison).

Formaldehyde is a pungent, class A carcinogen.

Phenylalanine, on the other hand, becomes toxic when combined with other amino acids and proteins.

During pregnancy, aspartame can affect the fetus directly, even at very low doses.

The FDA has received over 10,000 consumer complaints about aspartame, accounting for 80% of all nutritional supplement complaints.

The FDA has 92 documented cases of aspartame poisoning, including the following: loss of touch, headaches, fatigue, dizziness, nausea, palpitations, weight gain, irritability, anxiety, memory loss, blurred vision, rashes, seizures, loss of vision, joint pain, depression, spasms, diseases of the reproductive organs, weakness and hearing loss.

Also, aspartame can provoke the following diseases: brain tumor, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, Graves' disease, chronic fatigue, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases, diabetes, mental retardation, tuberculosis, it can even cause death.

6. E338 (Ortho-phosphoric acid) - chemical formula: H3PO4. Appearance- colorless or slightly yellow liquid. In a layer of 12-15 mm when viewed against a white background, with a slight odor. Unrestrictedly soluble in water, forms solutions of any concentration. Fire and explosion hazard. Causes irritation to eyes and skin. Application: for the production of phosphate salts of ammonium, sodium, calcium, manganese and aluminum, as well as for organic synthesis, in the production of activated carbon and film, for the production of refractories, refractory binders, ceramics, glass, fertilizers, synthetic detergents(SMS), in medicine, metalworking for cleaning and polishing metals, textiles for the production of fabrics with flame retardant impregnation, oil, match industry.

Food phosphoric acid is used in the production of carbonated water and to obtain salts (powders for making cookies, crackers).

7. E330 (Citric acid) - colorless crystals. Widely distributed in nature. Citric acid is obtained from shag and the fermentation of carbohydrates (sugar, molasses). Used in the pharmaceutical and food industries. salt citric acid(citrates) are used in food industry industry, as acids, preservatives, stabilizers, in medicine - for preserving blood.

8. Aromas - aromatic additives which ones are not specified.

9. E211 (sodium benzoate) - expectorant, food preservative in the production of marmalade, marmalade, melange ( confectionery production), sprats, chum caviar, fruit and berry juices, semi-finished products.

Benzoic acid (E210), sodium benzoate (E211) and potassium benzoate (E212) are introduced into some food products as a bactericidal and antifungal agent. These products include jams, fruit juices, marinades and fruit yoghurts.

Let's figure out how harmful Coca-Cola is.

Everyone knows that drinking is harmful to human health. This is largely due to the fact that this product contains chemical elements that can cause a number of disorders in the body, including serious and irreversible ones.

Russian scientists and physicians have been studying the chemical composition of this drink for a long time, and based on the results of their research, they came to the unequivocal conclusion that it is harmful. True, Coca-Cola advertising does not report this.

It became known that some components of the product with prolonged exposure to the body cause numerous violations of the sexual sphere, including impotence and infertility. This effect has a nut - cola, on the basis of which this drink is made. This nut used to grow only in America, and it was regularly given to Indian warriors to calm the sexual desire that interferes with military service.

The manufacturers of this carbonated drink keep its recipe and ingredient list in the strictest confidence. However, scientists who conducted tests and studies of the properties of the drink, established the main amount of substances contained in it. So what's wrong with Coca-Cola?

Chemical composition

This drink has been very popular all over the world for over a century. It was invented in 1886, and at that time it contained coca leaves containing cocaine, which later became a banned substance because it destroyed the cells of the body and was highly addictive.

Today, lemon essence, vanillin and clove oil are added to Coca-Cola. The main components of the drink are: water, caffeine and sugar in very large quantities. Coca-Cola uses carbon dioxide as a preservative. It is this substance, as has been proven in research tests, that has a teratogenic effect on the human body, which reduces reproductive abilities. In addition, Coca-Cola contains E950, a dangerous carcinogen, which includes methyl alcohol. This substance disrupts the functioning of the heart and blood vessels, and also contains aspartic acid, which has an undesirable effect on the central nervous system.

In addition, it contains aspartame (E951), which is a substitute for sucrose. Aspartame is an extremely dangerous compound that, when heated to 25 degrees, decomposes into formaldehydes, phenylalanine and methanol. These substances are deadly for humans. Why Coca-Cola is harmful is interesting to many.

Negative effect on the body

Its use in large quantities negative impact to the level blood pressure, raising it. This drink is strictly contraindicated in case of hypertension and other diseases of the heart and blood vessels, because the substances contained in the drink weaken the heart muscle.

People who have diseases associated with a decrease in blood clotting are also not recommended to drink Coca-Cola, since some of its components thin the blood, which causes bleeding and slow wound healing.

Regular use of Coca-Cola increases the risk of developing heart defects by 90%, including in the fetus of a pregnant woman.

Influence on the musculoskeletal system

In addition, animal studies have shown that Coca-Cola contributes to the leaching of calcium from the body, which is fraught with the development of diseases such as osteoporosis, brittle bones, dental problems, etc. This effect This drink appears due to the fact that it contains orthophosphoric acid. Therefore, the drink should be excluded from the diet of children and the elderly.

This is confirmed by numerous experiments with Coca-Cola.

There is also a special kind of drink that supposedly contains no sugar, making it low in calories. This advertising move has won the attention of consumers, but this type of drink is even more dangerous. It really does not contain sugar, but instead of it, a large number of dangerous sweeteners are put in the drink.

Also, Coca-Cola contains some substances that cause depression, migraines, increased fatigue, tachycardia, etc. Preservatives that are present in large quantities in it disrupt metabolic processes, which causes nervous breakdowns, obesity and depresses mental activity.

Experts are still arguing about whether Coca-Cola is harmful or beneficial.

Effect on the digestive system

The drink increases the acidity of the stomach. It is forbidden to use it for people suffering from peptic ulcer duodenum, stomach, and gastritis. This product destroys a number of digestive enzymes, which complicates the activity digestive system leading to a host of serious violations. The systematic intake of this carbonated drink causes inflammation of the pancreas, biliary tract, which contributes to the formation of gallbladder calculi.

What else is dangerous chemical composition"Coca-Cola"?

Oncological diseases

The specific color of the drink is due to the presence of the substance E150 in it. This hazardous component contains 4-methylimidazole, which releases free radicals, which provokes the active reproduction of atypical cells in human body. In addition, the product contains the so-called "cyclamate" - a substance prohibited in many European countries. Cyclamate is the strongest carcinogen that destroys healthy cells.

Coca-Cola is addictive. This is due to the content in it of substances that increase the sweetness of sugar tenfold (acesulfame potassium), and cause strong dependence (aspartic acid).

What else is fraught with Negative influence"Coca-Cola" on the body?

Obesity

Today, obesity has become one of the main problems of mankind. Improper lifestyle and nutrition provoke the development of obesity, which becomes more and more difficult to fight every year. Coca Cola contains great amount sugar (115 grams per 1 liter). Almost 40 grams of sugar are dissolved in a glass of this drink, which is daily rate use of this substance by an adult. But the main problem is that after one glass a person wants more, because sweet drink only increases the thirst.

On January 31, 1893, businessman Asa Griggs Candler registered the Coca-Cola trademark. Recipe for 122 years original drink changed noticeably. The first Coca-Cola, invented by pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in 1886 and sold in pharmacies as a cure for morphinism, neurasthenia, depression, and digestive problems, consisted of sugar syrup, coca leaves (coca bush) and caffeinated kola nut. By the end of the 19th century, it was discovered that cocaine was not the most innocent stimulant. They began to fight against its widespread use, so in 1903 cocaine was excluded from the composition of the drink. In our time exact formula Coca-Cola is a trade secret. It is only known that it includes sugar, sugar color, phosphoric acid, caffeine, natural flavors and carbon dioxide.

Being one of the most valuable brands in the world (fourth place according to the latest Forbes rating), Coca-Cola has been criticized more than once. From the latest news: since January 1, 2015, a law has been in force in the Vologda Oblast that prohibits the sale of non-alcoholic tonic drinks containing caffeine, including cola, to persons under 18 years of age.

Is Coca-Cola so dangerous that you need to limit its consumption on a par with alcohol and tobacco? We have collected data from scientific studies that look at the impact of cola and other sugary carbonated drinks on human health.

Obesity, liver steatosis, metabolic syndrome

According to numerous studies, the main culprit of the modern obesity epidemic is not hamburgers and french fries, but namely sweet soda. Scientists led by George Bray, a professor at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center (USA), found that drinking a liter of sweet soda every day for six months increases the risk of developing metabolic syndrome (a metabolic disorder in which fat is deposited on the stomach and increases probability of development cardiovascular diseases and diabetes) and hepatic steatosis (fatty hepatosis, accumulation of fat in the liver cells).

At the same time, according to the American Society for the Study of Obesity (Obesity Society), how much cola consumption will affect your waistline depends on genetic factors. But there is no need to despair, the effect is reversible: the rejection of these drinks leads to weight loss.

kidney disease

In a large-scale collaborative study of scientists from Italy and the United States, led by Pietro Manuel Ferraro, it was shown that those who drank more than one serving of Coca-Cola per day had a 23% higher risk of kidney stones than those who consumed less than one serving per week. At the same time, those who preferred other types of sweet soda, the risk is even higher - 33%. The study followed the health of 194,095 people for eight years, during which time 4,462 cases of urolithiasis were recorded.

The risk of developing kidney disease was also found to be high in those who preferred soda with artificial sweeteners, while chronic kidney disease developed less frequently in those who drank low-calorie Coca-Cola (Coca-Cola Light). The same study showed that those who drank more than one cup of coffee a day were 26% less likely to develop kidney disease. Scientists reported that about 80% of kidney stones consisted of calcium oxalate, a salt of calcium and oxalic acid.

The use of Coca-Cola leads to the immediate removal of calcium from the body. Japanese scientists from the University of Hirosaki (Hirosaki University Graduate School of Health Sciences) showed that two hours after healthy subjects drank one can of Coca-Cola, the amount of calcium in their urine increased. This is due to the fact that Coca-Cola, like some other sodas, contains a lot of phosphoric acid(H 3 PO 4 , used in high concentrations, for example, in dentistry for etching teeth) - it masks a huge amount of sugar and promotes the excretion of calcium. As a result, when drinking large amounts of such drinks, kidney disease and osteoporosis develop.

Coca-Cola - both regular and low-calorie - is a high-phosphate drink, so it is contraindicated in patients with chronic kidney failure. These patients require a low phosphate diet as the kidneys cannot handle the excretion of phosphate from the body. An increase in blood phosphate levels (hyperphosphatemia) is associated with a decrease in calcium levels, sharp drop blood pressure, heart failure and can be fatal. At the same time, manufacturers of soft drinks and fast food often hide the true content of phosphates, and as a result it is difficult for people to choose desired products. As shown by Japanese scientists led by Yoshiko Shutto (Yoshiko Shutto) survey of patients with chronic renal failure, 93% feared high content sugar in Coca-Cola and other sodas, while only 25% were aware that these drinks contained large amounts of phosphoric acid. Almost half of the patients said they consumed 1-5 cans of soda per week, despite the fact that 78% of those surveyed were warned about the dangers of a high-phosphate diet.

hypokalemia

A review by Vasilis Tsimihodimos and colleagues at the Medical School of the University of Ioannina (Greece) shows that drinking large amounts of Coca-Cola can lead to hypokalemia (a decrease in the concentration of potassium in the blood). IN mild form it manifests itself as weakness, fatigue, muscle pain. In severe form, this condition can lead to necrosis of the heart and skeletal muscles. Three components of Coca-Cola contribute to hypokalemia: glucose, glucose-fructose syrup and caffeine.

Coca-Cola contains a large amount of glucose (up to 110 grams / liter), excessive consumption which can lead to osmotic diuresis (excretion of large amounts of urine with a high concentration of excreted substances) and the excretion of potassium from the body in the urine. In addition, high glycemic loads can lead to hyperinsulinemia (increased insulin levels in the blood), due to which, in turn, potassium is redistributed into the cells.

To sweeten Coca-Cola in the US and Canada, glucose-fructose syrup is used: about 60% fructose and 40% glucose. When used in equal concentrations of fructose and glucose, special proteins facilitate their absorption in the intestines. But if there is more fructose than glucose, chronic osmotic diarrhea can develop (it occurs due to the high concentration of substances dissolved in the intestinal contents - in this case, fructose) and loss of potassium.

Coca-Cola contains 95 to 160 mg of caffeine per litre. It is known that the consumption of caffeine in the amount of 180-360 mg can lead to hypokalemia ( reduced content potassium in the blood), due to the pumping of potassium into the cells, the excretion of potassium by the kidneys, or a combination of these mechanisms.

Excessive production of sex hormones

Recently, MedNews wrote about a study by scientists from Harvard Medical School, the authors of which showed that the use of sweet soda contributes to the early puberty of girls. . And according to a group of American researchers led by Karen Schliep, carbonated drinks with big amount sugars affect the production of sex hormones in adult women. Study participants who consumed more than one cup (240 ml) of sugary soda per day had a 16% increase in estrogen production compared to those who drank less sweet soda. Even a small amount of sugary soda increases the production of follicular estradiol in premenopausal women. Elevated levels of the female sex hormones estrogen are directly related to the risk of developing breast cancer, ovarian cancer and other diseases. The authors advise women to drink less sugary soda to avoid these diseases.

Health of bones and teeth

According to data published in british dental journal, drinks with high acidity contribute to the erosion of tooth enamel. Such tooth damage is not associated with caries - tooth enamel and dentin are destroyed, and most often all teeth are “affected”. The study involved 1149 adolescents aged 12-14 years. Teens who drank soda regularly were twice as likely to have tooth decay, and those who drank about four or more glasses of soda were five times more likely.

As we have already written, the use of tonic sweet soda is associated with the loss of calcium, and, as a result, the development of osteoporosis. The study, led by Professor Katherine Tucker of Tufts University, included 1,413 women and 1,125 men. It turned out that the use of Coca-Cola (but not other carbonated drinks) reduces the strength of the hip bones in women. The authors attribute this effect to the presence of phosphoric acid.

Bisphenol A and phthalates

The packaging of drinks also matters. According to The Coca-Cola Company, a substance containing bisphenol A is used to line aluminum cans, and plastic bottles are made from PET, a polyethylene terephthalate that does not contain bisphenol A.

Bisphenol A is similar in structure to estrogens and can adversely affect the reproductive function of both women and men, provoke the development of tumors. Recently, the European Food Safety Authority once again revised its attitude towards bisphenol A and decided that it is not harmful to either adults or children, including in the womb. However, the agency called for a reduction in daily BPA intake from 50 mcg per kilogram of body weight to 4 mcg/kg.

However, a comparison of two types of packages - glass bottles and aluminum cans - published in the magazine Hypertension scientists from Seoul University showed that drinks from cans increase blood pressure and heart rate. Researchers attribute this effect to the presence of bisphenol A in inner coating aluminum cans. In addition, two hours after drinking such drinks, the amount of bisphenol A in the urine of the subjects increased 16 times. In another study published in Journal of Food Protection, it has been shown that the amount of bisphenol A in beer stored in aluminum cans ranges from 0.081 to 0.54 µg/L.

Phthalates, components of PET packaging, are also similar in structure to estrogens and may increase the risk of breast cancer and endocrine disorders. A study by Portuguese scientists showed that bottled water contains a small amount of phthalates and is not dangerous to human health. According to the results of Hungarian scientists, water in PET bottles with a capacity of 0.5 liters contains the largest number phthalates compared to water from two-liter bottles. According to Croatian researchers, in soda samples stored in PET bottles, . It has been noted that while this concentration does not officially pose a risk to human health, the systematic consumption of products containing phthalates can lead to their accumulation in the body.

Dubious politics

Thiago Hérick de Sá from the School of Public Health of the University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) protested against the fast food policies of corporations such as The Coca-Cola company and McDonalds. According to the article “Does Coca-Cola Help physical activity?”, published in The Lancet in June 2014, these corporations are trying to prove that the obesity epidemic affecting children around the world, and especially in developing countries (such as Brazil, India, China), is due to lack of physical activity, and not to use junk food and overly sweet drinks. According to Tiago Eric de Sa, the strategy of fast food giants includes not only sponsoring sports (in particular, The Coca-Cola company has been a sponsor of the Olympic Games since 1928), but also influencing some scientific research, and resembles the strategy of tobacco companies, the harm from the products of which is more obvious and beyond doubt.

And yet, you should not experience superstitious fear in front of red and white jars. If you have healthy kidneys and you like the taste and invigorating effect of Coca-Cola, it is quite possible to afford to drink a can a week. Doctors recommend replenishing the calcium lost after taking one can of Coca-Cola with a glass of milk. And do not forget that sweet soda is almost 10% sugar.
