When they say in our family that it’s time to cook lazy cabbage rolls, then these words mean the recipe of which has been living on my website for a long time and has collected a lot good reviews. We love this dish very much, its recipe is very simple, but for a long time I wanted to try to cook lazy cabbage rolls in the oven, which are made in the form of cutlets.

Conceived - done. After rummaging through the Internet, I found a recipe that, in terms of the composition of the ingredients and the manner of cooking, seemed to me the most acceptable. I decided to cook lazy cabbage rolls according to this recipe and compare the taste with my usual very lazy cabbage rolls. 🙂 I will write my conclusion at the end of the article.

Ingredients:

  • 500 g mixed minced meat
  • 1/2 cup raw rice
  • 500 g cabbage
  • 1 large onion
  • 1 egg
  • salt pepper
  • breadcrumbs

for the sauce:

  • 1 large onion
  • 1 large carrot(150 g)
  • 350 g tomatoes
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • a pinch of suneli hops
  • 150 g thick sour cream
  • 0.5 liters warm water
  • salt pepper

From this amount of products, I got 15 lazy cabbage rolls.

Cooking:

We cut the stalk from the cabbage and cut the head of cabbage into very small cubes, approximately the same way as we usually cut the onion.

We put the cabbage in a deep cup, pour boiling water from the kettle and set aside to cool for now. Cabbage scalded with boiling water will become much softer, it will not crunch and it will be much more convenient to sculpt cabbage rolls.

Dip the rice in boiling salted water and boil it until tender. Then drain the water through a colander. It is not necessary to rinse the rice strongly so that it does not lose its stickiness.

We scroll the meat with onions in a meat grinder, salt and pepper to taste. If you have minced meat from the store, it doesn’t hurt to turn it again with the onion in a meat grinder, or just add finely chopped onion to the minced meat, or rub it on coarse grater.

Drain the water from the cooled cabbage through a colander. Then be sure to squeeze the cabbage with your hands to get rid of excess liquid.

Add rice, squeezed cabbage and an egg to a plate with minced meat.

We knead well and get such minced meat for lazy cabbage rolls:

Now is the time to turn on the oven. We set the temperature to 200 degrees, let it heat up.
Pour breadcrumbs into a shallow plate and begin to sculpt oval cabbage rolls with a diameter of about 4.5-5 cm. Roll each cutlet in breadcrumbs.

Then we put them in a mold greased with vegetable oil. I have a 20*30 cm mold.

We put the form in a preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, prepare the sauce.
We cut the onion into small cubes and fry in vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or saucepan until transparent. The fire should be medium so that the vegetables do not burn.

Add the carrots, grated on a coarse grater, and continue to fry, stirring, for another five minutes until the carrots are soft.

Cut the tomatoes in half and three on a coarse grater, holding the skin. The skin is then discarded.

Pureed tomatoes can, of course, be replaced with diluted tomato paste, but sauce with fresh tomatoes always turns out incomparably tastier.
In a saucepan with onions and carrots, add mashed tomatoes, garlic passed through a press and a pinch of suneli hops.

Stir, let simmer for 1-2 minutes and remove from heat.

We mix sour cream with 0.5 liters of warm water from a kettle, stir so that there are no lumps.

Pour the diluted sour cream into a saucepan, mix, salt and pepper to taste. The sauce is ready.

We get lazy cabbage rolls from the oven. They have already baked a little, grabbed, hold their shape well.

Pour the sauce over the cabbage rolls, evenly distributing the vegetables on top of the cabbage rolls and between them.

We put the form with cabbage rolls in the oven again and bake at the same temperature for another 30-40 minutes. Look for yourself so that all the liquid does not boil away and that the cabbage rolls do not burn.

You can serve lazy cabbage rolls as a separate dish, or you can cook some kind of side dish. Very tasty with sour cream. In general, the cabbage rolls were a success, they turned out exceptionally tasty!

Well, if we compare this dish with my very lazy cabbage rolls, where everything is simply cut and stewed on the stove, then I will say this - no matter how you cook, it turns out super tasty, I can’t even say which method is preferable. There is only one BUT - cooking lazy cabbage rolls in the oven takes much more time.

    Cooking process:

    Lean lazy cabbage rolls

    Often housewives are interested in what can replace rice in cabbage rolls, just ordinary buckwheat, the taste is excellent. The dish can even be prepared without meat, for example, in a post.

    We will take:

    • cabbage - 1 kg
    • champignons - 500 gr
    • buckwheat - 1 cup
    • tomato juice - 1 glass

    When I see the word “lazy” in the name of the recipe, I immediately think: oh, this is certainly not for the lazy, but quite the contrary - for very energetic women who love their husbands very much. Otherwise, it’s hard for me to imagine the motivation with which the hostess is ready to spend an hour at the stove, constantly boiling something, grinding, mixing, rolling, frying, etc., etc. Nevertheless, I finally gathered my courage and for the first time in my life I cooked lazy cabbage rolls in the oven. I can’t say anything against it, because the deliciousness is unreal, plus the food turns out to be big family for two days minimum. I was also surprised that I got all these one and a half baking sheets from just a pound of meat. In general, the experience of those works was worth it. Although my work still needs to be divided into at least two. After all, I didn’t just cook lazy cabbage rolls in the oven, I also shot the recipe with a photo step by step.

    Ingredients:

    • 500 g minced meat,
    • 1 large onion
    • 2 carrots
    • 2 eggs,
    • ½ cup rice
    • 300 g cabbage (one third of a 1 kg head)

    1. Preparation of products for minced meat.

This is usually done in three waters. But my rice is washed in 10-15 waters. Then rice should be poured with a glass of water, put on the stove, bring to a boil.


    Reduce heat and simmer uncovered until all water has boiled away. As a result, you will get exactly what is required - undercooked rice.


    2) Next, we have onions and carrots in turn. Don't neglect roasting. With it, lazy cabbage rolls in the oven are, without exaggeration, delicious. So my onions and carrots, peel and then chop the onion into smaller cubes, and three carrots on a medium grater. We spread the vegetables in a pan, pour vegetable oil, without stint.


    And fry everything on low heat until soft. Stirring so as not to burn. It took me exactly 12 minutes to complete this process.


    3) Let's move on to cabbage. We will dwell on it in more detail, since its preparation is far from the standard shredding procedure that we are already used to. So first we cut off the piece we need. If your head is the same as mine - a kilogram in weight, then we separate a third, making deep cuts to the stalk.



    Then we chop across the shredder - to get small cubes.


    If you are not sure that your cabbage will become soft in the process of baking lazy cabbage rolls in the oven, then do the following: put the cabbage in a saucepan or bowl and pour boiling water over it.


    After five minutes, drain the water, throw the cabbage into a colander and squeeze it a little more with a spoon and then with your hands.


    2. Cooking minced meat for lazy cabbage rolls.

    On this preliminary preparation ingredients are finished. Let's start making pigeons. For these purposes, we take a larger saucepan. We put the products in it according to the list:
    - rice, boiled until half cooked,
    - chopped meat,
    - chopped and steamed cabbage,
    - fried onions with carrots.

    Then we beat in two eggs. Sprinkle 1 teaspoon of salt. Pepper.


    We mix hard. Our task is to mix all the ingredients evenly.


    3. Modeling and frying cabbage rolls.

    We put the pan on the fire. Pour vegetable oil. And we begin to sculpt cabbage rolls, then laying them in a pan. Sculpting them is easy. I made them small. I scooped up the minced meat with a tablespoon, so that with a small slide. Then she laid it out on the palm of her hand. And she began to roll from palm to palm until a smooth cutlet was obtained. Here you can see what they turned out to be. And these came out two and a half pans.


    Fry for 5 minutes on one side and on the other. Do not try to fry the cabbage rolls until brown. Achieve only a slight golden hue.
