The appetizer is prepared much easier than the famous salad, and in terms of taste it is not inferior to it. It also looks very pretty on the holiday table.   • chicken egg - 1 pc.;
  • hard cheese - 80 g;
  • herring (fillet) - 1 pc.;
  • dill - 3 sprigs;

  • mayonnaise - to taste;
  • parsley - for decoration.


How to cook beetroot balls with herring

Let's start cooking with the preparation of beets. The root crop can be baked in an oven or boiled. The first method will preserve vitamins, pulp juiciness and rich color. Rinse the beetroot well and pat dry with a paper towel before roasting. Wrap in several layers of foil and send to a hot oven. Roasting time depends on the size of the root vegetable and the power of your oven. If the beets are large, it will take 1-1.5 hours. Check readiness with a bamboo skewer or toothpick. If the beets are baked, they are easily pierced. In this case, turn off the oven, remove the package and let it cool. Grate the beets on a medium grater. Place on a cloth or cheesecloth and squeeze out the juice, which can be used to make pancakes. And place the beets in a deep bowl.

Grate hard cheese on a medium or fine grater. Add it to the beets.

Boil the egg ahead of time. If you take an egg out of the refrigerator, dip it in cold water and put it on the fire so that it does not burst. The egg boil time is about 9-10 minutes so that the yolk is firm. Cool in cold water and remove the shell. Grind on a medium grater. Add to the rest of the ingredients. Stir.

Finely chop the washed and dried dill. Add it to the beet mass. Season with salt, ground pepper and a little mayonnaise. Do not overdo it with the sauce so that the mass does not become watery and greasy. If you don’t have mayonnaise on hand, any store-bought or homemade sauce is suitable - sour cream, cheese or Caesar.

Cut the salted herring fillet into small pieces. If you have a whole herring, clean it from the insides. Rinse, separate the fillet from the ridge and small bones, use as directed.

Take a serving of beetroot mass. Form a cake. Add a piece of herring to the center. Be sure to do this with clean, dry hands, because the cold appetizer will not be cooked.

Form a ball.
