I wanted to cook something unusual and tasty from chicken, and besides, thin Armenian lavash was at hand. I stumbled across this recipe and didn't expect it to be so delicious!

I've cooked chicken in pita bread twice already. It differs from baked chicken in the traditional way in that it is cooked immediately with sauce. This sauce and chicken juice soak the pita bread and make its bottom layer soft with a delicate taste of chicken. Chicken pieces are very juicy, and the hand reaches for the next one!

For the chicken in pita bread baked in the oven, I used chicken thighs, although you can use the whole chicken by dividing it into portions.
For chicken baked in pita bread, we need:
5 chicken thighs,
2 sheets of thin pita bread,
200 g sour cream (kefir),
2 cloves of garlic
1 tomato
1 small or half large red or yellow bell pepper
salt,
spices,
nutmeg.

Making the sauce:
chop the tomato, pepper and garlic; Grind it all with a blender into a puree.

Add salt, nutmeg, vegetable puree, sour cream to the chicken. Mix and leave for 30 minutes. marinate.

In a deep baking dish, lay out the first sheet of pita bread. To do this, you first need to fold it in half, and then lay it in the form. The second sheet of pita bread is laid out on top in the same way. First, pieces of chicken are laid out on pita bread, and on top they are poured with sauce in which the chicken was marinated. The ends of the pita bread are bent towards the center of the mold, it is similar to the formation of an open cake.
When I first cooked chicken in pita bread, I immediately sent the dish to bake in the oven for 1 hour. The second time, I already moistened the ends of the pita bread with water using a brush.

The fact is that the pita begins to dry out a lot and as a result the top of the pie turns out to be burnt.

Therefore, I moisten pita bread well with water and do this procedure 5 times (as the top layer of pita bread dries) during the baking of chicken in pita bread. The second time this should be done already 10 minutes after the chicken was sent to the oven.


If you are also pursuing the goal of achieving a beautiful appearance of baked chicken in pita bread, then increase the baking time by another 10 minutes. Then it turns out that it will take 1 hour and 10 minutes to bake the chicken at a temperature of 180 degrees. If there is no time to often look into the oven or you missed this moment, you just have to remove the burnt edge.
