The ratio of alcohol to water table. How to make excellent vodka from alcohol at home

If you need to dilute alcohol with water at home, remember 3 key rules that must be strictly observed:

  1. Before dilution water needs to be cooled(it is desirable that the temperature is not higher than 20 degrees Celsius)
  2. Need to add alcohol to water, but by no means vice versa.
  3. Diluted alcohol should settle

Now more about the procedure itself.

Why dilute alcohol with water?

Given that our site is dedicated to moonshine and the preparation of other alcoholic beverages, we will consider the use of alcohol exclusively in this area.

A rare drink in the process of its preparation requires the use of 96% alcohol. Even most tinctures are prepared in a weaker solution. Therefore, the only way to get the desired degree is to dilute alcohol with water.

What is needed for the correct dilution of alcohol?

It is important to remember that the basis for obtaining a good alcoholic drink is the use of quality ingredients. Therefore, the correct dilution of alcohol is the most significant moment in the overall process.

To dilute alcohol to the desired degree, we need:

  1. Alcohol, the degree of which is precisely known.
  2. Chilled water.
  3. Container for diluted alcohol - a glass jar or bottle of the appropriate volume is ideal.

Alcohol, no matter how trite it may sound, should be drinkable and nothing more. Without additional impurities, transparent and preferably already tested. It can also be cooled before the procedure, for example, in the freezer.

Pay special attention to the choice of water. She must be clean. Under no circumstances should you use tap water, including boiled water. To dilute alcohol, distilled water, water from a clean source, or water that is sold in five-liter bottles in stores (in this case, choose according to taste and hardness, as they can vary significantly depending on the brand) or is brought to order in containers volume of 19 liters.

Where to get distilled water if the choice is on it? Buy it at a pharmacy (yes, it is not available everywhere, but it is sold, just ask a pharmacist) or cook it yourself by distillation in a moonshine still.

Not everyone recommends using a distillate to dilute alcohol, although in practice it turns out no worse than when using other water. Take distilled water if diluted alcohol is used to make tinctures, as it has no taste. Use "tasty" water to make vodka.

The best option is purchased water in 5 and 6 liter bottles or imported in 19 liter bottles. Why? Because on such bottles, as a rule, they write the composition of water. To dilute alcohol, it is recommended to use water with a hardness of less than 1 mEq / liter. Look for this option on the label.

Alcohol dilution table

To easily dilute alcohol in your kitchen, use the Fertman table, which shows how many milliliters of water you need to pour into 100 milliliters of alcohol of a certain strength to get the desired degree.

Examples of using the Fertman table

For example, you have a 90% alcohol that you want to make a 35% solution. In this case, 100 ml of alcohol must be poured into 163.3 ml of water. Or pour a liter of alcohol into 1 liter and 663 ml of water.

Don't forget to add alcohol to the water!

With the help of the Fertman table, you can reduce the degree to the desired one for any alcoholic drink.

Alcohol dilution formula

In addition to the table for diluting alcohol, you can use a special formula. It looks like this:

X=P*(N/M-1)

X- the desired value - the amount of water that will be needed to dilute the alcohol to the desired degree (in milliliters)

P- initial value - the amount of alcohol that you have (in milliliters)

N- the degree of alcohol you have

M- the degree to be obtained

Example: to make vodka from a liter of alcohol with a strength of 96%, you need to pour alcohol into 1.4 liters of water.

Parsing the example: 1000 milliliters of alcohol (1 liter) is multiplied by the number that is obtained by subtracting one (1) from the result of dividing 96 (the strength of your alcohol) by 40 (the strength you need to get).

1400=1000x(96/40-1)

Another example: to obtain a solution with a strength of 65 ° from a liter of alcohol, it is necessary to pour alcohol into a liter of water (998.5 milliliters).

998.5=1000x(96/65-1)

Another example: to obtain a solution with a strength of 25 ° from 500 milliliters of alcohol, it is necessary to pour alcohol into 1.1 liters of water.

1100=500x(80/25-1)

Check the Fertman table. Based on it, 100 ml of alcohol with a strength of 80% to 25% can be diluted by pouring into 224 milliliters of water. Multiply 224 by 5 (5 times 100 milliliters) and get 1120 - about 1.1 liters.

Settling of diluted alcohol

The final stage of the alcohol dilution procedure is the settling of the finished drink. After dilution and mixing, place a tightly closed container with the resulting solution in a dark place for a week. It is important to observe the temperature regime - the temperature should not be lower than 5 degrees Celsius.

If diluted alcohol is needed urgently, then reduce the settling time to two days.

For settling, use a container that is most optimally suited in terms of volume to the resulting solution. Diluted alcohol should be poured under the very neck in order to minimize the area of its interaction with oxygen. This will avoid the oxidation reaction and the formation of acetic acid.

Alcohol is an excellent base for any alcoholic beverages. In particular, being diluted to 40 degrees, it can perfectly replace vodka. At the same time, the resulting product for consumption is a much better analogue of the vodka that can be bought in stores.

The main reason for diluting alcohol to create noble alcoholic beverages is that it is a fairly powerful solvent. When added in pure form (96%), it will kill the taste of any drink. Below we will look at how to dilute alcohol with water.

What to breed?

Contrary to popular belief, alcohol should not be diluted with anything other than water. It is the distillate that is best suited for this. Firstly, it is cleaned of any microorganisms and debris that is present in the water supply. Secondly, the use of any other liquids for this leads to the appearance of an extraneous odor or taste. And then any advice on how to properly dilute alcohol with water is already losing its relevance.

True, experimental tests show that useful additives lose their intensity over time, but unwanted odors do not disappear. Therefore, when breeding, it is better to refuse them.

Even the Internet is full of recipes on how to properly dilute alcohol, which advise mixing water with the original product with alcohol in equal proportions in different containers, after which it all needs to be mixed together. It's completely pointless. The great chemist D. I. Mendeleev said how to properly dilute alcohol with water: mixing occurs by adding alcohol to water, and not vice versa.

Otherwise, the molecular lattice of the first one will collapse and disintegrate into components. This can be clearly seen by the appearance of a characteristic white color of the liquid. It is the process of diluting alcohol with water described above that is correct. Other advice can be safely ignored.

Mixing ratio

To calculate the proportions when mixing, we need a regular calculator. First you need to know the following parameters:

  • The strength of the initial alcohol;
  • What volume of alcohol;
  • Desired strength of the final drink.

If you need to dilute alcohol at home from 96% to the strength of vodka and you will drink the drink at home and there is no particular need to accurately maintain the proportions, then you can proceed as follows.

For example, there is a liter of the initial product. Its strength is 95 degrees. You need to get about a 40-degree drink to get vodka. After some thought, we come to the conclusion that it is necessary to reduce the fortress a little more than twice. Accordingly, we need a little more water than alcohol. Approximately this figure is 1300-1500 milliliters.

Variables mean:

  • X- the desired volume of water;
  • A- initial fortress;
  • B– initial volume;
  • C- the desired fortress.

By simple calculations, we expect that for the previous example we need to add exactly 1400 milliliters to dilute alcohol with water at home. In total, the final product will be 2.4 liters.

The third way is a little easier. Here he calculates, not how much water needs to be added, but what the final displacement will be. We should find out all the same data: the initial fortress, the final fortress and the initial volume. Now we divide the initial strength by the final (desired) and get the amount of drink that we will have after dilution.

Now we need the initial volume number. If you have a liter of alcohol, then everything is very simple - add water until you get 2.4 liters (in the case of vodka). If it is more, then first you need to multiply the initial displacement by the obtained value - that’s where you need to “catch up” with the volume. In formula form, it would look like this:

  • X- the volume to which the amount of liquid must be brought
  • A- the initial number of revolutions;
  • B- the desired number of revolutions;
  • C- the number of liters of the initial volume.

Well, the simplest thing is to use a table. It can be found in any school textbook on chemistry. Also, this table is very widely represented on the Internet.

What to do with the received product?

Alcohol storage is important. It wouldn't be so relevant if:

  1. Medical alcohol (and any other) did not evaporate;
  2. No acetic acid film formed on the alcohol surface.

That is, the container must be filled to the brim, otherwise the air that remains in the empty volume will react with the hero of our article. As a result, partial decomposition and the formation of acetic acid, which in no way improves the taste characteristics of the product. In addition, after filling the container, it must be closed with a ground stopper. If this is not done, then we are again threatened: the formation of acid and the evaporation of the product.

Now you need to insist alcohol. This is done so that it better dissolves water in itself and reduces the strength. On average, it takes from 4 days to a week. This process cannot be accelerated. Neither heating nor shaking will help. If you do not heed this advice, then you can get all the same decay of molecules and clouding of the drink.

Additives

Various flavors mixed into the product during infusion is one of the most controversial topics. It is better not to resort to their use, since certain chemical processes occur in the liquid during infusion. And additives can affect them extremely negatively.

But, if you do not have time to wait and follow the advice on how to properly dilute the alcohol, and then also spend time waiting for it to infuse on additives, then you can use them, but you should not expect a high quality of the final product.

As "safe" supplements, you can use:

  • Glucose. Gives a mild sweet taste. Put no more than 10-15 ml per 1 liter of the finished product;
  • Honey. It turns out mead with all the consequences. It is better to use flower or linden honey. 30 ml per 1 liter of diluted alcohol;
  • Milk. Only according to proven recipes. Taste and smell - for a rare lover;
  • Spices. Strictly to taste.

Most tinctures and other homemade spirits do not require 96% alcohol, but a diluted version of it. In this case, it is very useful to know how to properly dilute alcohol with water and not adjust. At the same time, for tinctures, as a rule, not 40% vodka is needed. As you know, alcohol is a good solvent, therefore, the greater its content in the liquid, the more it draws the substances we need from the products (mainly essential oils). In this regard, it is recommended to use alcohol with a strength of at least 45-50%, but it is better to dilute it to 70%, if we are not talking about selected drinks, for example, Limoncello, which initially needs to be insisted on pure alcohol. The process of diluting alcohol with water is called the "cold" method of production and is sometimes used even in distilleries. For us, ordinary people, this is an ideal way to get a solution of the strength we need, including vodka. In principle, the process is not complicated, but the observance of technology is very welcome here.

How to dilute alcohol?

It would seem that it could be easier than diluting alcohol - mixed it with water - and you're done. But no. There are many nuances here.

Firstly, alcohols are different and with different strengths (first-class - 96%, with the highest purification - 96.2%, "extra" - 96.5%, "luxury" - 96.3%, medical and dry (anhydrous) ). The degree of purification of alcohol directly depends on the type. And the diversity of species is related to what exactly alcohol is obtained from (from which grain).

Secondly, the water for breeding should be taken the purest, completely transparent, so to speak - without color, taste and smell. In addition, it will be better if there are no salts in it. In addition, this water must be further purified, filtered and softened. The finished version is usually referred to as “corrected water”. At home, for diluting alcohol, it is best to purchase distilled water at a pharmacy, but in no case should you take regular water from the tap in the kitchen.

How to dilute alcohol without risk to health?

Alcohol is diluted with water and other ingredients to obtain vodka. Self-preparation of a drink practically does not differ from factory technologies. The advantage of this cooking procedure is that you control everything yourself. And, therefore, you will be sure that you will prepare a normal product, with or without, according to your taste, various additives and without the risk of getting poisoned with burned vodka. How to properly dilute alcohol and will be discussed in the article.

Preparation of ingredients

Alcohol

The preparation of vodka from alcohol by dilution in water is called the “cold method” by technologists. This operation is often used in distilleries. The technology is proven, proven, economical. As a result of dilution, a high-quality food product with a known intoxicating effect is obtained. In this process, the main thing is to follow the step by step order of mixing all the ingredients. But first you need to prepare them.

Choose an alcohol from the list below:

  • 96.5% - extra;
  • 96.3% - luxury;
  • 96.2% - the highest purification;
  • 96% - first grade;
  • medical;
  • anhydrous.

The best quality alcohol is a product labeled "Lux". And the worst option (for lack of a better one) is alcohol of the highest purity. (Don't be surprised - it's true, a hundredth of a percent is very important!)

Water

After choosing the main raw material, it is necessary to prepare the water, in which then it will be necessary to dilute the alcohol. This component can be filtered or distilled. With filtered, different results can occur, they depend on the hardness of the water and its mineral composition. And with “distillate” there are practically no options for failure (if it is really a distilled product). It is never necessary to use tap water (“Zhekovskaya”) without purification - spoil both the final product and simply transfer valuable alcohol.

There are recommendations to use spring water, pure bottled water, pure melt water. With these options, everything is very ambiguous. Spring water is often hard, purchased water from a supermarket is also not distinguished by the purity of its parameters, and we do not recommend melted water (with our ecology). (The last tip will be especially relevant not only for residents of cities, but also suburbs, small towns and villages located near industrial giants within up to 100 km.)

Additives

As various additives in industrial production, various acids and additives are used. Acetic and citric acid are the most popular. Vinegar in honor of its cheapness and sugary smell, and lemon - to soften hard water (even filtered water can be hard). Sugar, aromatic essences are added to vodka as additives, milk and honey are added in small quantities.

The use of these ingredients depends only on your taste preferences. Love “bitter”, real and burning, “so that it warms” - do not use additives. If you like a “soft to go on its own” product, experiment by adding little by little and come up with your perfect recipe.

We do according to the formula

In order to obtain a drink with a strength of 40% (vodka) from a liter of alcohol with a strength of 96%, you need to pour this liter of alcohol into 1.4 liters of water.

This operation is performed based on the following formula: X=P*(N/M-1)

  • X- this is the amount of water in milliliters that will be needed to obtain a solution of the desired strength
  • P is the volume of alcohol we have in milliliters
  • N- this is the strength of the existing alcohol, which we dilute
  • M- this is the fortress we want to get

See how we got the figure 1.4 liters (1400 milliliters) using this formula: we multiplied 1000 (the volume of alcohol we have in ml) by the number obtained by subtracting one (1) from the result of dividing 96 (the strength of the alcohol available) by 40 (the fortress we want to get): 1400=1000*(96/40-1).

Another example: in order to get a drink with a strength of 50% from a liter of alcohol with a strength of 96%, you need to pour this liter of alcohol into 920 milliliters of water: 920=1000*(96/50-1)

However, you may have alcohol with a strength not of 96%, but lower, then the above formula will not work. In this case, it will help you alcohol dilution table - Fertman table.

How to dilute a liter of 96% alcohol?

If you wish to receive 40 degree vodka, by diluting alcohol, then you should mix a liter of alcohol with 1440 ml of water. Not so strong drinks are often required, for example, 30% or 35% . To obtain them, a liter of alcohol will need to be combined with 2240 and 1785 ml, respectively. If you pour 1175 ml of water into a liter of 96% alcohol, you will end up with an alcoholic drink with a strength of 45% . Achieve a fortress 50% You can mix a liter of alcohol and 960 grams of water. When 780 ml of water is added to a liter of alcohol, an alcoholic drink with a strength of 55% .

To get a drink with a strength 60 degrees, you need to combine 1000 ml of pure alcohol with 630 ml of water. What strength do you think the drink will turn out as a result of mixing a liter of alcohol with half a liter of water? Right, 65% . By diluting a liter of pure alcohol with 390 ml of water, we get a drink with a strength 70% .

Stronger concentrations, namely 75% , 80% , 85% And 90% obtained by mixing a liter of alcohol with 295 ml, 209 ml, 135 ml and 65 ml of water, respectively.

Obviously, as a result of the manipulations listed above, it is often possible to obtain a rather large volume of an alcoholic beverage, which may turn out to be superfluous. We believe that in this case it would be appropriate to tell you in what proportions water and alcohol should be combined in order to get a liter of drink (plus / minus 50 ml).

How to dilute 96% alcohol to get a liter of vodka?

Liter of real 40 degree vodka can be obtained by mixing 421 ml of alcohol and 607 ml of water. When you combine 632 ml of alcohol and 397 ml of water, you get a little more than a liter 60% -drink. By mixing 474 ml of alcohol and 556 ml of water, you can get 1030 ml 45% - drink.

Well, now in order ....

Dilution of 316 ml of alcohol with 707 ml of water will make a low-alcohol drink ( 30% ). Drink by strength 35% obtained by mixing 368 ml of alcohol with 658 ml of water. Create drinks with strength 50% And 55% , you can combine 526 ml and 579 ml of alcohol with 504 and 451 ml of water, respectively.

By diluting 684 ml of 96% alcohol with 343 ml of water, you can get an alcoholic drink with a strength 65% . Liter, more precisely a little more, 70% -nogo drink is easy to get if you mix 737 ml of alcohol and 288 ml of water.

The strongest concentrations ( 75%, 80%, 85% and 90%) are obtained by mixing 789 ml of alcohol with 233 ml of water, 852 ml of alcohol with 176 ml of water, 895 ml of alcohol with 119 ml of water and 947 ml of alcohol with 61 ml of water, respectively.

settling

After we have received the solution we need in terms of strength, we still cannot call it ready, it needs to be infused for several days, and preferably for a whole week, this is necessary for all the chemical reactions that occur there to be completed. Moreover, it is necessary to defend at a temperature of +5 degrees Celsius in a tightly closed and completely filled container, otherwise alcohol will lose its properties upon contact with oxygen.

This is how the solution settles, you can already safely start preparing various tinctures or other alcoholic beverages at home.

Recipes

Spicy vodka

Spice lovers should definitely try this recipe. 3 cups of water are combined with 2 cups of alpha alcohol, mixed and cooled. After a few hours, the bottle is opened and 1 cup of dry lemon zest is thrown into it. The drink is infused in cool conditions for another 5 hours and the infusion is distilled through a moonshine still.

Further, the recipe requires measuring the distillate and adding 5 g of cinnamon to each liter of it. Nutmeg and cardamom put 1 g each. For a richer taste, spices are poured in larger quantities. Then the vodka with aromatic additives and alcohol is tightly closed and cleaned in a warm room. You can simply wrap the bottle with a blanket or put it in a hot oven for 11 hours.

After the specified time, the container is moved to a dark place where the drink should be infused for 12 hours. The finished product is filtered through folded gauze and cooled. Add sugar or glucose if desired.

Do-it-yourself "pepper"

You can prepare this version of alcoholic products from the following set of ingredients:

  • cloves - 2 heads;
  • red pepper - 1 pod;
  • black pepper allspice - 6 peas;
  • vodka with an alcohol base alpha - 0.5 l.

So that peppercorns and cloves do not float in the container, they can be placed in a red pod. Seeds are taken out of the vegetable cut along the length and the void is filled with the necessary components. The pod is thrown into a jar and after 3-5 days they try the drink.

Vodka-Kedrovka

The recipe for this drink is also not complicated. You will need half a kilo of unpeeled pine nuts, 2 liters of water (it is needed to evaporate the resin from the nuts) and 3 liters of alpha vodka.

Work with ingredients like this:

  1. nuts are boiled for 5 minutes, after which they change the water and extend the boil for another 5 minutes;
  2. nuts are discarded in a colander and wait for the water to drain;
  3. cedar fruits are placed in vodka.

Drink "two in one" - vodka-cognac

The following recipe requires a more solid set of ingredients:

  • soda - 0.5 tsp;
  • cloves - 2 pcs.;
  • sugar - 1 tsp;
  • bay leaf - 2;
  • alpha vodka - 3 l;
  • vanillin - on the tip of a knife;
  • oak bark powder - 1 tsp;
  • black pepper - 3 peas;
  • instant coffee - 1 tsp;
  • brewing high-quality loose tea - 1 tsp.

The ingredients are collected in a total mass and put the pan on a quiet fire. The container is covered with a transparent lid and the hole is closed with bread crumb. Just before boiling, flavored vodka alpha is removed from the oven and taken out to cool. When cooled, it is filtered through gauze, bottled and put into a refrigeration unit.

Lemon spirit vodka

A soft refreshing drink is made from alpha vodka (400 ml), one lemon and water (600 ml). Citrus fruit is poured with boiling water, wiped and peeled from it with a knife. The zest is thinly sliced and placed in a bottle. In a separate bowl, mix water with alcohol and put the mixture in the refrigerator for several hours.

The juice is squeezed out of the remaining pulp and collected in a jar. Vodka infusion is divided equally. One part is diluted with lemon juice, the other is poured into a bottle with zest. Banks are closed and taken out for 2 weeks in a dark, dry place. Drinks are sipped and tasted.

This recipe can be improved by additionally distilling vodka through the apparatus and diluting it with sugar syrup. Any alpha vodka is easy to make without moonshine "technology". It is recommended that the alcohol mixture be infused in a cold place for at least 14 days, filtered and kept for another 3 days.

Unusual way

You can also make vodka from alcohol with the addition of various spices, which will add spice to the taste.

To get the product, you need to prepare the ingredients:

  • 3 glasses of water;
  • 2 glasses of alcohol;
  • 1 cup dried lemon peel;
  • cardamom, ground cinnamon and ground nutmeg.

Before starting the process, you need to prepare a glass vessel with a lid. It mixes water with alcohol, then the jar is sent to the refrigerator to cool for 3 hours. After the specified time, the vessel is removed, and a glass of dried lemon peel is sent to the finished product.

Further, the recipe for preparing vodka provides for its infusion for 6 hours in a freezer or refrigerator. Then the resulting lemon tincture is subject to distillation on the apparatus for obtaining moonshine. The number of additional components can be changed, but for 1 liter of drink it is best to put 4 g of cinnamon, 1 g of nutmeg and cardamom. Then the product is tightly closed again and sent to a warm room for half a day.

It is good to cover the vessel with a woolen blanket or place it in a preheated oven. Then the container for the same time should be placed in a cool room for complete infusion. The resulting product is filtered, for which gauze folded in several layers is used. A completely chilled drink should be tasted and, if necessary, add granulated sugar or glucose to it.

Getting vodka by diluting alcohol is a cold method. It has found wide application even in distilleries, thanks to which the final product is of high quality. At the same time, home craftsmen may have a question about how to properly dilute alcohol with water so that the degree is suitable for consumption - the recipe is relatively simple, but it requires competent adherence to technology. All the necessary actions can be easily performed at home.

What alcohol is used in vodka

For the preparation of most tinctures and other homemade spirits, it is necessary to use not 96% alcohol, but its diluted version. It must be medical or ethyl. The difference between them is that the first is made from the second, and in its composition there are small impurities of water and other substances at the molecular level. Both types are suitable for making vodka - there is no significant difference between them. Methyl alcohol is not suitable for making a drink, because. it is toxic - even 50 grams of products can make a disabled person out of a healthy person.

Degrees of purification

Before diluting alcohol, inquire about the degree of purity of this product. Of the varieties of ethyl product below, you can use any, but keep in mind that the product of the highest purity is the least quality, and the most suitable is the Lux class. According to the degree of purification of ethyl products, there are:

  • medical;
  • anhydrous;
  • lux (96.3%);
  • extra (96.5%);
  • the highest purification (96.2%);
  • first grade (96%).

What water to dilute alcohol

To dilute alcohol and get an alcoholic drink at home, you will need such an important ingredient as water, which must be clear and clean. In classic Russian recipes, spring water is used for this purpose, but it is very difficult for residents of large cities to get it, so you need to pay attention to its other types. The main indicator of water is the total hardness - the amount of calcium and magnesium in its composition.

According to some sources (“Technology of alcohol and alcoholic beverage production”, 1973), in order to prepare alcoholic beverages, water is needed, the hardness of which is less than 0.36 mg-eq / l for softened water and 1 mg-eq / l for natural water. For dilution, it is best to use a liquid with the lowest hardness indicators, otherwise the solution will become cloudy and acquire an unpleasant taste. It turns out that the softer the water, the better.

tap water

For making vodka, tap water is the worst option. Its hardness sometimes reaches 7 mg-eq/l. In addition, it has a bright pronounced smell and contains bleach in its composition. If you decide to use this liquid, then first, be sure to let it stand for 3-4 hours - the bleach should settle during this time. After that, you will need to boil the water, let it cool and pass it through a household “jug” type filter.

Rodnikova

Many people recommend using this type of water, but it's not as simple as it might seem at first. The spring liquid is usually pleasant to the taste, but it will not be possible to determine its hardness and composition without a thorough analysis. In addition, the indicators of such water vary greatly depending on the time of year, drought or heavy rains. If you decide to use it, then try making a small amount of the mixture out of it and evaluate the result. If the taste suits you, and the product does not become cloudy, then the water you have taken from the spring is quite suitable.

Filtered purchased

The purchased bottled (filtered) version is considered by many to be the best. On a bottle with such water, you can get acquainted with the chemical composition and hardness, so it remains to choose the right product. Choose water with a hardness parameter of 1 mg-eq / l and below - there are many such products in stores. If the hardness on the bottle is not indicated, then focus on the content of Ca and Mg. Make sure that the former is less than 10 mg/L and the latter is less than 8 mg/L.

distilled

This option may seem to many the most refined, but not everything is so simple. At the same time, such water is unlikely to become cloudy, but it all depends on what you plan to use the finished product for. If it is needed for the preparation of a particular tincture, the taste of which is determined by the components included in it, then such water is quite suitable - it is devoid of taste. Vodka based on distilled water will be significantly inferior in taste to its counterpart in bottled or spring liquid.

How to dilute alcohol

When planning to dilute alcohol to 40 degrees or to some other indicator, determine the required number of parts of water and alcohol. According to Mendeleev, the ideal proportion is 2 to 3: mix 2 parts of 96% alcohol with 3 parts of water. True, it is correct to calculate not the ratio of the volumes of ingredients, but their weight. Thanks to this, the strength of the finished mixture can be calculated. For example, if you have 70% alcohol or some other, then to correctly calculate the proportion, you must use the Fertman table.

The ratio of water and alcohol to obtain vodka

The Fertaman table will help you get the optimal proportion, so that the finished homemade alcohol will be the way it should be. When mixing ethyl products with water, the volume of the resulting solution decreases, i.e., if you mix 1 liter of each component, then the output will not be 2 liters of the mixture. This effect is called contraction - it significantly complicates the calculations.

According to the table, to obtain a product with a strength of 40 degrees, it is necessary to mix 100 ml of 90% alcohol with water with a volume of 130.8 ml. In the example, the proportion is 1 to 1.3. You can make changes to add glucose, juice and other additional ingredients, but these components do not significantly affect the strength. It is worth noting that all proportions will be correct provided that the temperature of the mixed components is 20 ºС.

Alcoholometer readings

In addition, for making homemade alcohol, take into account the readings of the spirometer. If you are going to measure the concentration of alcohol using this device, then please note that its readings will change depending on the change in temperature. A deviation in temperature terms of 5 degrees will result in an alcohol deviation of approximately 1 degree.

How to get a drink of the desired strength - Fertman's table

Using anhydrous alcohol, medical or some other suitable ingredient of this type, it is necessary to calculate the optimal proportions of its dilution with water. In this case, the Fertman table will help you. Thanks to it, you can prepare home-made alcohol of the required strength. From it you will find out how many ml of liquid you need to add to 100 ml of the original product to obtain the desired result. Table of dilution of alcohol with water:

To prevent the drink from acquiring an unpleasant aftertaste during preparation, use a special formula. It is suitable for making drinks with a strength of more than 95%. With its help, you can calculate what volume the mixture should have after dilution - X = S / K * V (ml), where:

  • V is the initial volume of the initial product in ml.
  • K is the required solution strength in percent.
  • S - initial fortress in percent;
  • X is the total volume of the resulting mixture in ml.

Process technology

The mixture resulting from the dilution of alcohol with water is called sorting. However, it is usually not suitable for use. In this regard, before using such a product, it is necessary to stand for a week, but not less than a couple of days. This is necessary so that all ongoing chemical reactions come to an end. Key steps:

  1. Preparation of the main ingredients. Distilled and boiled liquid is not suitable for vodka, because. during distillation and boiling, it loses some of its useful substances and is poorly suited for dissolution. The latter must be medical or ethyl, and it is necessary to measure its initial strength.
  2. Cleaning. To improve the quality of prepared home-made alcohol, it is necessary to throw a spoonful of coal into the mixture per 1 liter of sorting (you can buy it at a moonshine store) or several tablets of an activated analogue from a pharmacy. The mixture should then be left at room temperature (about 22°C) for a couple of hours. After that, carefully strain the solution through a dense cloth.
  3. Preparation of other components. To get homemade alcohol, you need glucose. You can cook it yourself - take 1 kg of sugar and dissolve in 1 liter of water. Next, the container with the mixture must be put on a slow fire and boiled, constantly removing the white foam that appears. You can soften the taste not only with sugar or a spoonful of honey, but also with orange and lemon juices. Sometimes acetic or citric acid is added to the solution.
  4. Mixing. Determine the amount of water using the table above. Mix all ingredients. At the same time, you should not overdo it with additional components, for example, acetic acid per 1 liter of the original product, add no more than 1 tablespoon.
  5. Settling. The diluted product will be ready for use in about a week. After aging, you can bottle the solution.

Cooling ingredients

If you have already read the answer to the question of how to properly dilute alcohol with water, then it remains to focus on several important steps. One of them is the cooling of ingredients. It is recommended to use water and alcohol only in a well-chilled state, thanks to this the drink will definitely not become cloudy: you can put the first one in the refrigerator, and the second one in the freezer.

Alcohol to water or water to alcohol

Remember that you need to dilute water with alcohol, but not vice versa. Pour in the second ingredient in a thin stream. In the "water-alcohol" system, according to D.I. Mendeleev, there are three compounds (chemical) formed by hydrogen bonds. If alcohol is poured into chilled water, water hydrates will form. If you use a warm liquid and pour it directly into ethyl products, the result will be monohydrates with a taste and smell that will be characteristic of alcohol, but not vodka.

cleaning

Of no small importance in the preparation of a home-made alcoholic drink is a process such as cleaning. For 1 liter of sorting, you will need about 1 tablespoon of coal from a specialized store or about 30 tablets of coal (activated), which can be bought at any pharmacy. An alternative option for such purification is the use of double filtration through a jug-type filter. At the same time, please note that after charring, the sorting will lose about 2 degrees of strength. The resulting solution is left for a couple of hours and filtered through a cloth (dense).

settling

In order for the problem of how to properly dilute alcohol with water to be fully resolved, it is necessary to pay due attention to the settling process. First of all, try to fill the container where the diluted product will be stored up to the very neck. If the mixture interacts with oxygen, it will begin to oxidize - as a result, acetic acid will be formed.

The ethyl product diluted with water must be defended in a dark, cool room - at a temperature of 4 ° C or slightly higher. You can use the finished product after two days, but it is better to let the mixture stand for about 7 days. During this time, all reactions in the solution will be completed. After the alcohol settles, you can safely fill it with the ingredients of various tinctures.

Hello friends! In today's article we will talk about how to dilute alcohol with water at home. And not only up to 40 degrees, but up to any necessary fortress. I will tell you how to choose the right proportions and what water to choose. I will also show you how to make vodka. At first glance, everything is simple, but if you do not follow the mixing technology, you can get a cloudy, ugly liquid.

The idea of writing this article has matured for a long time. After all, I constantly write in my recipes that diluted alcohol can be used instead of vodka, but not everyone knows how to dilute it correctly, for example, up to 70 degrees. If you are the lucky one who has access to quality alcohol, then this article is for you. By the way, where do you get it? Tell in the comments.

What should be the alcohol

About what alcohols are described in a separate article. Here we will not focus on this. I'll just say that it should be naturally drinkable, of high quality, and from trusted sources. And also absolutely transparent and without extraneous smells.

What water to use

The quality of the water used is as important as the quality of the alcohol. Okay, I turned it off. Let's say a little less, but also very, very important. I think it's unnecessary to say that water should be drinkable, clean and transparent, so let's move on to less obvious things.

The main indicator of water for us is hardness. Hardness is the amount of calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg) in water. It is measured in mg-eq / l. For dilution, it is necessary to use water with the lowest hardness, in other words, soft water. Otherwise, the solution will become cloudy, and it will lose its taste.

So how hard should it be? According to the publication “Technology of alcohol and alcoholic beverage production” (M. “Food industry”, 1973), water with a hardness of less than 1 mg-eq / l for natural water and less than 0.36 mg- equiv/l for softened water. We will use natural water, so we focus on 1 meq/l.

How do you know what hardness your water has, you ask? I’ll tell you now, but let’s first consider the options for what kind of water we can use.

tap water

The worst option. Such hardness can reach 7 mg-eq/l. In addition, it contains bleach, which has its own pronounced smell. I do not recommend using such water, but if you still decide, then you need to make some manipulations on it.

First, let the water stand for 3-4 hours to evaporate the bleach. Then boil the water and let it cool down. After boiling, pass through a household filter jug for water. Now there are a lot of them on sale and they do a good job of purifying water. After these procedures, the water is ready for use.

Spring water

Most sites on the Internet recommend just such water, but I would not be so categorical. It's not all that simple. As a rule, spring water is very tasty, but its composition and hardness cannot be determined without special analysis. In addition, its performance can vary greatly from time of year, heavy rains or drought.

Therefore, I cannot recommend this water. If you have a spring or well nearby, you can try using this water to make a small amount of mixture and see what happens. If it does not become cloudy and its taste suits you, then the water from this spring is suitable for use.

Purchased bottled water

This, in my opinion, is the best of the options. The chemical composition and hardness are written on the purchased bottles, so we just have to choose the water that is suitable for our purposes.

This, as I said, is water with a hardness of 1 meq/l and below. There are plenty of these for sale. I have even seen water with a hardness of 0.05 meq/l. It happens that the total hardness is not indicated on the bottle. Then you should focus on the content of Ca and Mg. It is desirable that calcium be less than 10 mg / l, and magnesium - less than 8 mg / l. At least my water has such indicators.

Distilled water

It would seem that what could be better than water purified from all impurities for diluting alcohol? This water is definitely not cloudy. But even here it is not so simple. Everything will depend on what you are going to use the resulting mixture for.

If for the further preparation of some kind of tincture, for example, Peppercorns or Kedrovka, the taste of which is determined primarily by the ingredients included in it, then distilled water will do just fine. After all, she has no taste.

For the same reason, it is not well suited for making vodka, the taste of which largely depends on the taste of water. Vodka prepared with distilled water is significantly inferior in taste to vodka made with spring or bottled water.

To summarize: for dilution, use soft bottled water with a hardness of 1 mEq / L and below.

Mixing ratio

When alcohol is mixed with water, the volume of the resulting solution decreases. That is, when adding 1 liter of water to 1 liter of alcohol, we will not get 2 liters of liquid at the outlet. The volume will be slightly smaller. This effect is called contraction and significantly complicates our calculations.

For the correct choice of proportions, it is necessary to use a special table - the Fertman table. It indicates how many ml of water must be added to 1000 ml of alcohol in order to obtain a solution of the desired concentration.

Here's it below (click on image to enlarge).

For example, to dilute 90% alcohol to 60%, add 535 ml of water to 1000 ml of alcohol.

It is worth noting that all these proportions are correct at a temperature of mixed liquids of 20 ºС. If you measure the concentration of alcohol with an alcohol meter, you should know that when the temperature changes, its readings change. A deviation of 5 degrees in temperature results in a deviation of about 1 degree in alcohol. Here's a label for 96% alcohol.

You probably noticed that the Fertman table contains data only for alcohol with a strength of 95% and below. But what if you have a stronger one?

In such cases, you can use the formula below. It calculates how much volume the mixture should have after dilution.

X= S/K*V (ml),

X is the final volume of the diluted liquid (ml)

For example, we need to dilute 500 ml of 96% alcohol to a strength of 40%. We consider: X=96/40*500=1200 ml. It turns out that we need to add water to 500 ml of alcohol until its volume increases to 1200 ml.

Difficult? Then there is this option. This is a fairly approximate calculation, but for home conditions it is quite suitable.
M= SV/K-V (ml),

M - amount of water required for dilution (ml)

S - initial alcohol strength (%)

K - the required strength of the solution (%)

V - initial volume of alcohol (ml)

Example: Again we dilute 500 ml of alcohol 96% to a strength of 40%. M = 96*500/40-500 = 700 ml. It turns out that 700 ml of water must be added to 500 ml of alcohol. But the total volume of liquid will be less than 1200 ml. Remember why? That's right - contraction.

Mixing Technology

Mixing alcohol and water is also not so simple. In various literature, and on many sites and forums, they write that it is right to pour alcohol into water. Say, it is necessary to pour a heavier liquid (water density 1 g / ml) into a lighter one (alcohol density 0.8 g / l), so they mix faster, and the chemical reaction proceeds correctly.

But at the same time, I have heard more than once that at distilleries they pour alcohol into water, and vice versa. And in some literature they also give a technology by which water is added to alcohol. I give an example:

In the book "Technological instructions for alcoholic beverage production", 1971. on page 65 it says:

“The calculated amount of alcohol is poured through the measuring tank into the prepared sorting vat, then water”

In the reference book "Recipes for alcoholic beverages", 1981 edition, on page 9, the following is stated about the preparation of vodka:
“Water is added to the blend and the volume of the blending vat specified by the measuring glass is adjusted”

From personal experience, I’ll say that I mixed this way and that, I didn’t notice much difference. The main thing is to adhere to the following rules:

  • Alcohol and water must be cooled before mixing. Alcohol can be put in the freezer, and water in the refrigerator.
  • You can pour both alcohol into water, and vice versa, the main thing is to pour in as quickly as possible and immediately mix well.

Alcohol diluted with water is called sorting. Freshly prepared sorting is not suitable for consumption. She needs some time to complete all the ongoing chemical reactions. Therefore, before using it, you need to defend at least a couple of days, and preferably a week. Close the bottle tightly with a stopper and store in the refrigerator.

How to make vodka from alcohol

As I said above, a mixture of alcohol and water is not yet vodka, but just a semi-finished product called sorting. But sorting acquires the usual taste of vodka only after cleaning it with coal. During carbonization, the mixture is cleaned of harmful impurities and redox reactions, after which sorting turns into vodka.

For cleaning, you can use coal sold in specialized shops for winemakers, activated carbon from a pharmacy, or a household water filter pitcher sold in supermarkets.

The proportions per 1 liter of sorting are approximately as follows - 1 tablespoon of coal from a moonshine shop, or 30 tablets of activated carbon from a pharmacy, or double filtration through a jug. Sorting should be 42%, because. after angling 2 degrees will be lost.

After filtering, to soften the taste, sugar (1 tsp per 1 liter), or glucose (20 ml of a 40% solution per 1 liter) or fructose is added to the vodka. Hydrated vinegar, glycerin, etc. are also sometimes added.

Today I do not give a detailed technological process for preparing vodka from alcohol, as this is a topic for a separate article. I will write it very soon. Subscribe to updates and it will come to your mail.

And that's about all I have for today. Prepare the right drinks and be happy.

See you again. Dorofeev Pavel.

Preparation of ingredients

It is required to prepare good components, because this is the only way to get a quality product. You can argue for a long time which alcohol is better - medical, extra or the highest degree of purification. But manufacturers of home-made alcohol have little choice, most often medical alcohol is purchased or otherwise obtained. Therefore, you need to use what is, and try to bring the final product to perfection. The main thing is to know exactly the degree of the available raw materials, because the dilution proportions depend on this.

You need to stock up:

  • alcohol;
  • spring water;
  • alcoholometer;
  • measuring glass;
  • sugar;
  • citric acid;
  • natural additives to soften the drink.

It is easy to dilute alcohol for consumption, it is more difficult to find good ingredients. It should be borne in mind that the taste and properties of the resulting alcohol will depend not only on the quality of the alcohol, but also on the purity and mineral composition of the water.

Water treatment

The softer the water, which is always more in vodka than alcohol, the softer the finished drink will be. Spring is considered the best, and tap water is not suitable due to the large amount of impurities. Therefore, knowing how to properly dilute alcohol with water is not enough. It is also necessary to prepare the liquid, while simply boiling or distilling tap water will not be enough.

Thermal preparation "kills" water, an alcoholic drink based on it will have a sharp taste, so it must be "live", from natural sources. If it is not possible to dilute alcohol with water from a spring, it is permissible to use tap water, passed through a filter and frozen. When freezing, you should wait until about ¾ of the original volume turns into ice, pour out the excess, defrost the ice and use this liquid for dilution.

Dilution of alcohol with water calculator

In order for home-made alcohol to have the desired degree, you should know in what proportions it is bred. Without taking this into account, it rarely turns out that vodka of the desired strength is obtained. Therefore, when diluting alcohol, it is required to use a special calculator that helps to make the correct calculation even for a person who does not know how to determine percentages, correlate them with degrees and operate with fractions.

With such an assistant, knowing the strength of the available alcohol, you can easily calculate how much liquid you need to stock up before starting the dilution procedure.

Preparation of pure vodka with a strength of 40 degrees without additives

The strength of alcohol is a mysterious category, because in the range of 40-48% vol. for some reason, the drinker does not feel the difference. Given this information, it is not advisable to make vodka stronger than 40% vol., so as not to waste excess alcohol. After carelessly diluted strong alcohol, a feeling of dryness and an unpleasant aftertaste remains in the mouth, so you want the alcohol not only to correspond to the desired degree, but also to drink easily, without requiring an immediate snack or drink.

Knowing how to properly dilute alcohol, you can make high-quality alcohol in a cold way without even leaving your home. The only condition is that the stock should have good raw materials and water close in quality to spring water. And then it's a matter of technology. You need to calculate the proportions and mix the ingredients correctly.

There is a common method of mixing alcohol with water up to 40 degrees: 1 liter of 96% raw material is added to 1.4 liters of liquid, resulting in 40-degree vodka. With a different strength of the feedstock, you will have to recalculate the proportions or use ready-made data.

The table below shows the different volumes of spring water that must be mixed with 1 liter of alcohol to make an alcoholic drink with a strength of 40% vol.:

To prevent the alcohol from becoming cloudy when mixed, it must be poured into chilled water. If you pour in the opposite way and at the same time take warm water, chemical compounds are formed that fix the taste and smell characteristic of alcohol in the resulting drink.

  • The volume of the container should be chosen so that the resulting drink fills it up to the very neck.
  • The more oxygen remains in the tank, the longer the oxidation reaction will take and the top layer will turn into acetic acid.
  • The container is placed in a dark place with a temperature above + 4 ° C, and there it should be at least 2 days, but the optimal holding period until the end of all chemical reactions is 7 days.

How to dilute a liter of 96 alcohol

Calculating how to dilute alcohol with water is not only for making vodka. Not so strong alcohol may be required. It is recommended to find ready-made tables that offer solutions for mixing and obtaining liquids of the required degree.

If the desired value does not fall within the proposed ready-made range, the calculation is made independently, using a special formula that helps you find out how much water you need to add to 100 ml of 96% alcohol in order to get the composition of the desired degree:

water volume = 9600 / TK - 96, where

TK is the required strength of the solution in degrees.

In order not to have to make calculations every time, the results can be calculated and compiled into a table showing how much water needs to be added so that the diluted 96% alcohol reaches the desired concentration:

samogonman.com

Preparation of ingredients for alcohol dissolution

Actually, alcohol. Our editors, with your permission, got into the hands of good, 96% alcohol, so, at least, our fellow bootlegger, who makes excellent absinthe from this alcohol, said =). Unfortunately, even he does not have information about what grade this raw material is. Depending on the degree of purification and composition of raw materials, rectified food alcohol, according to the modern classification, is divided into the following grades:

  • 1st grade - 96.0%;
  • Higher purification - 96.2%;
  • Basis - 96.0%;
  • Extra - 96.3%;
  • Luxury - 96.3%;
  • Alpha - 96.3%.

In this case, Alpha alcohol is the best, which is prepared from wheat, rye, or a mixture thereof. Alcohols Lux and Extra are driven from a mixture of cereals and potatoes, while in Lux alcohol the initial wort should not contain more than 35% potato starch. In alcohols Extra and Basis, this figure reaches 60%. Alcohols of the highest purity are used mainly for the production of cheap vodka, alcohols of the 1st grade are not used at all for the manufacture of alcoholic beverages. I would like to believe that at least Basis fell into our hands.

From the foregoing, it is clear that any alcohol above Basis is suitable for us - follow this. The next important component for diluting alcohol is water. It should be clean, transparent, free of impurities. Ideally, spring or from an artesian well. Ordinary bottled water or, in extreme cases, distilled water will do. We used distilled water and it worked out just fine. Tap water is not suitable even after boiling - it contains a lot of salts and other impurities, which make it very hard. As a result, when alcohol is added to such water, it may become cloudy.

How to determine the proportions of alcohol dilution

The difficulty lies in contraction, a decrease in the total volume. If you mix 100 ml of vodka and 100 ml of water, you will get not 200 ml of the total mixture. But the process is greatly simplified if you look at this issue in terms of the alcohol content in the final product. The easiest way is to operate with the ratio of volumes of liquids. For example, 40% alcohol is 1 liter of liquid, which contains 400 ml of pure (anhydrous), 100% alcohol. Therefore, 1 liter of alcohol with a strength of 96% contains 960 ml of anhydrous alcohol. To get 40% of 96%, you need to increase the amount of the entire solution by 96 and divide by 40, that is, exactly 2.4 times. Simply put, to get vodka, you need to add water to 1 liter of 96% alcohol until the volume of the mixture is 2.4 liters.

You can also use the formula:

X=100NP/M - 100P

  • Where N is the original alcohol strength;
  • M is the percentage of the final (required solution);
  • P - coefficient (divide the volume of the initial solution in milliliters by 100);
  • X is the number of ml of water to be added to the initial solution.

We just used this formula. We had 1 liter of 96% alcohol, but we needed to get a 70% solution for making homemade Becherovka. The calculations are as follows:

100*96*10/70 - 1000 = 371 ml

So, to get a 70% solution from 1 liter of 96% alcohol, we added to it (or rather, vice versa) 371 ml of water. Fortunately, we still have chemical volumetric flasks at our disposal.

If alcohol with a strength below 95% fell into your hands, or if you need to dilute the resulting tincture to 20-30%, then you can use the Fertman table:

Fertman's table (for diluting 100 ml of alcohol)

For example, if we have 70% alcohol and we need to get a 30% tasty tincture from it, then 136.0 ml of water must be added to 100 ml of such alcohol (again, we pour alcohol into water, and not vice versa). Use on health =).

Settling of diluted alcohol

First, try to fill the container in which the alcohol will be stored up to the very neck. If alcohol interacts with oxygen, it will oxidize - acetic acid is formed. Diluted alcohol can be used after a couple of days, and preferably after a week - during this time all chemical reactions should stop. The optimum settling temperature is +4 ° C and above; the container should be stored in a dark place.

After settling the alcohol, they can safely pour the ingredients of the tinctures, and then, if strong raw materials were used, dilute to the desired degrees, guided by the table above. Now you know how to dilute alcohol with water at home, which means that tinctures and other homemade alcohol have become even easier to prepare. Subscribe to the Rum Diary - this is just a fraction of the useful information that we want to convey to you. Good luck!

  • medical;
  • anhydrous;
  • lux (96.3%);
  • extra (96.5%);
  • the highest purification (96.2%);

The formula for diluting alcohol with water

To prevent the drink from acquiring an unpleasant aftertaste during preparation, use a special formula. It is suitable for making drinks with a strength of more than 95%. With its help, you can calculate what volume the mixture should have after dilution - X = S / K * V (ml), where:

  • V is the initial volume of the initial product in ml.
  • K is the required solution strength in percent.
  • S - initial fortress in percent;

How to properly dilute ethyl alcohol with water to make vodka at home: calculator table, formula

The process of diluting alcohol with water is called the "cold" method of converting alcohol into vodka. Sometimes this method is used even in the production of alcoholic beverages. At home, you can also get a high-quality vodka product, but the mixing technology must be strictly observed.

Choosing alcohol

Ethyl alcohol differs in the degree of purification:

  • alpha - from 96.3%, produced exclusively from conditioned grain: wheat, rye.
  • extra - from 96.3%,
  • luxury - from 96.3%.

For the production of varieties of alcohol extra, luxury, a mixture of grain and potatoes is used. Extra grade contains up to 35% starch.

  • the highest purification - from 96.2%,
  • first grade - from 96.0%,
  • basis - from 96.0%.

For the production of these varieties, any food raw materials are used.

The basis variety contains about 60% starch. Without additional purification, vodka from it is not tasty. But if you add manganese to it, and after the precipitation is filtered through a carbon filter, then the quality of the product will improve.

Alcoholic beverages are not produced from first grade alcohol.

Choosing water

Much depends on the quality, taste and degree of purification of water. You should not take ordinary tap water that has not undergone additional purification. It contains too many various impurities, salts, which will not allow you to make a tasty, high-quality drink. The best choice would be:

  • tap water, after multi-stage purification;
  • bottled water, with a minimum salt content. The softer the water, the softer the final product will be;
  • spring water - is considered an ideal option, difficult to perform in an urban environment. But spring water can be too hard.

You can use distilled water, but such water dissolves alcohol worse, and the taste is somewhat “medical”.

When mixing alcohol with water, a ratio of 2:3 is usually used, i.e. 2 parts alcohol diluted with 3 parts water. Even Mendeleev considered this combination to be universal.

Interesting. Sometimes it is advised to measure components not by volume, but by weight. But it is worth remembering that alcohol is lighter than water: 1 liter of ethyl alcohol weighs 790 g. when measuring components by weight, the strength of the final product will be higher.

For a more accurate result, you can use the formula:

where x is the amount of water required to dilute alcohol to the desired concentration, ml;
M - the required strength of the alcohol solution,%;
P is the volume of available alcohol, ml;
N - initial strength of alcohol,%.

For example, from 96% alcohol you need to get 40% vodka. Volume of alcohol - 1 liter (1000 ml):

Those. 1000 ml of alcohol should be poured into 1400 ml of water.

You can also use the Fertman table, which contains various combinations of the initial and final solution.

Having chosen the strength of the source material and the strength of the final product, we find out the amount of water in ml, which must be added to 100 ml of alcohol

Important. Always add alcohol to water to avoid clouding the alcohol. Water must be taken chilled, otherwise the final product will have a taste and smell characteristic of alcohol, and not vodka.

How to dilute alcohol into medical vodka, cognac, ethyl 96, 70 percent up to 40 degrees?

  • Medical alcohol is obtained from ethyl alcohol by purifying ethanol and adding water to it, about 4%. Medical alcohol is the purest product. Its strength usually varies between 96.4-96.7%.

    Important. Medical alcohol is an antidote for poisoning with methanol, ethylene glycol, if drunk before or immediately after the use of these toxic substances.

  • The strength of ethyl alcohol, which is recommended for making vodka at home, can be different. The main thing is that ethanol is edible, not technical. Edible ethyl alcohol is produced from food raw materials, while technical alcohol is made from synthetic materials.
  • Cognac alcohol is an alcohol obtained from grape juice (mainly white grape varieties), after two stages of distillation. Its strength is 68-72%. Cognac alcohol turns into cognac in oak barrels, where it is aged for a certain time, but not more than 70 years, because after that the strength, taste and aromatic characteristics do not change.

Before starting the process of preparing a drink from alcohol, it is necessary to set the strength of alcohol. To do this, use a hydrometer.

  1. To obtain 40% of the product from 96% alcohol, you can use the ratio of alcohol and water: 1:1.4. If any additives are used: syrup, honey, juice, then they try to ensure that the total final amount of liquid is within 1.4 liters per 1 liter of alcohol.
  2. If there is alcohol with a strength of 70%, then you can get a 40% drink from it if you combine 100 ml of alcohol with 77.6 ml of water.

Important. If alcohol is already poured into water, then you cannot add more water to it - the alcohol will become cloudy, the product will be spoiled. You can try to save this situation by passing the liquid through activated charcoal. The result will be even better if activated carbon is crushed, poured into an alcohol solution, kept for several days and then filtered.

What is the best way to dilute ethyl alcohol for drinking so that it tastes good?

To get a tasty and high-quality drink, in addition to purified tasty water, you will need:

  • glucose;
  • sugar syrup: 1 liter of water / 1 kg of sugar. The syrup is cooked over low heat until the end of the formation of foam, which is removed;
  • various juices;
  • milk;
  • lemon acid;
  • dried lemon peel;
  • pepper;
  • various roots;
  • Tea coffee;
  • lemonade;
  • berries;
  • herbs.

These ingredients are added in small amounts. On average, 30-40 ml of additives is enough for 1 liter of solution. Citric acid put 5-10 ml. Dry matter put 5-40g, depending on the desired result.

Algorithm for preparing a delicious drink:

  1. We prepare the ingredients: alcohol, water, additives. To accurately measure the strength, the temperature of the components should be about 20 ° C. If the water is warm, then the drink will have an alcoholic taste, not vodka.
  2. Add alcohol to the water in the appropriate proportions.
  3. We add various flavors.
  4. We mix everything thoroughly. This is done for faster dissolution of all substances. If the container can be tightly closed, then you can shake everything.
  5. Add crushed activated charcoal tablets to the solution. For 2.5 liters of solution - 3-10 tablets of coal. We let it brew: from several hours to a day at room temperature, optimally - 22 ° C.
  6. We filter. The filter can be fabric, paper, gauze with cotton.
  7. We pour into bottles. Bottles must be filled up to the neck so that the alcohol does not evaporate.
  8. Let the drink sit for a few days.

Important. It is necessary to store and prepare the product exclusively in glassware, plastic is contraindicated.

How to dilute ethyl alcohol with juice: proportions

When preparing vodka with such a “cold” method, alcohol can be diluted not only with water, but also with juice. This makes delicious cocktails.

  1. Cocktail "Screwdriver" - a mixture of orange juice (2.5 parts) and alcohol (1 part). Add a slice of lemon, ice cubes - and the drink is ready.
  2. "Bloody Mary" - a combination of tomato juice (2 parts) and alcohol (1 part) with the addition of salt, pepper, lemon juice. Although you can limit it exclusively to juice and alcohol.
  3. Cranberry cocktail - a combination of juice and alcohol 2:1. The drink has some astringency.
  4. Apple cocktail - juice and alcohol are mixed in a ratio of 3:1. The best juice is made from green apples.
  5. When making a cherry cocktail for 1 part of vodka, it is allowed to take 2 or 3 parts of vodka. The sweetness of the drink depends on the variety of cherries.
  6. For a pomegranate alcoholic drink, a 3: 1 ratio is suitable, where 1 part of alcohol is added to 3 parts of juice.
  7. Grapefruit cocktail has a sweetish aftertaste. Its proportion is the same as that of pomegranate: 3:1.

Focusing on these proportions, you can combine alcohol with any other juice.

How to make lemon vodka at home from ethyl alcohol: a recipe

Lemon vodka has a bright aroma, taste and a long aftertaste of citrus.

Ingredients:

  1. Alcohol base: regular vodka, ethyl alcohol mixed with water, high quality moonshine.
  2. Sugar (honey) - up to 2 tablespoons. This ingredient softens the drink, but it can be omitted.
  3. Lemon - 2 pieces.

Cooking:

  1. Scald the lemons with boiling water, then rinse thoroughly with warm water. Remove the zest without touching the white peel to avoid the bitterness of the drink.
  2. Squeeze juice from lemons. The juice should be squeezed carefully so that as little pulp as possible gets into the juice.
  3. In a glass jar, put the zest, sugar (glucose, honey), pour in the juice and, last but not least, the alcohol component. If ordinary store-bought vodka is used, then alcohol is added to increase the strength of the finished product.
  4. Mix everything thoroughly, close the jar, put in a warm place for 24-48 hours. It is advisable to shake the vodka 4-6 times during this time.
  5. Filter the drink through cotton wool, paper filter, pour into bottles, you can drink.

Important. When sediment appears, turbidity - filter through gauze.

How much ethyl alcohol is needed for 1 liter of vodka?

When water and alcohol are combined, a chemical reaction occurs that absorbs part of the liquid. Therefore, to obtain 1 liter of the finished product, the total amount of initial ingredients must be taken more than 1 liter.

  • To obtain 40% vodka, 421 ml of alcohol is added to 607 ml of water.
  • To obtain 60% vodka, 632 ml of alcohol is added to 397 ml of water.

What water is used to dilute alcohol: raw or boiled?

  • In general, it does not matter - boiled water or raw, if the water is of good quality, does not have impurities and a large amount of salts. If the water is tap water, then it is advisable to boil it, and then at least pass it through a filter jug. But it is better to subject to three or more stages of purification.
  • If the water is spring, then it depends on the degree of its hardness.
  • Bottled water is optimal for urban conditions. It does not need to be boiled or filtered. The main thing is that the water should not be too mineralized.

Can alcohol be diluted, mixed with carbonated or distilled water?

  • Although everywhere they write that distilled water should not be used for drinking, alcohol is diluted with distillate quite often. The main harm of distilled water is the absence of the bulk of useful substances in it, which contributes to leaching, rather than saturation, of useful substances in the body.
  • Distilled water has an unpleasant odor and a specific taste, so it should not be used. There are no other restrictions for diluting alcohol with it. Although, if a person does not have a particularly sensitive taste, then he may not feel it. But some lovers, on the contrary, prefer to use exclusively distilled water, because without additional additives, vodka with it turns out to be softer and more pleasant.
  • Alcohol is not diluted with carbonated water, the desired effect - a tasty pleasant drink cannot be achieved. Carbon dioxide increases the absorption of alcohol, irritates the walls of the stomach. In order to speed up the absorption of alcohol, it is better to simply drink ready-made vodka with a carbonated drink.

How long does the reaction of ethyl alcohol with water last, after what time can you drink diluted alcohol?

  • You can drink diluted alcohol immediately after mixing, only the taste will not be complete yet. It is advisable to keep the drink for 1-2 days. During this period, all the elements have not yet been dissolved, but the main work will have already been done.
  • The reaction of alcohol with water lasts about 7 days, which is how long it is usually recommended to infuse vodka before drinking. Some recipes recommend insisting 14 days.

How to dilute alcohol 96 to 40 degrees?

    96% alcohol, when diluted with water, gives an opal-colored liquid, slightly similar to the result of diluting methyl alcohol, when diluted with boiled water, the solution turns out to be more transparent, but in general it looks unpleasant. To obtain a 40 degree fortress, you need to dilute 100 ml of alcohol with 146 ml of water.

    Sun is a little easier. We dilute 40 parts of alcohol with 60 parts of water. 200 ml alcohol per 300 ml. water.

    There is a very good site for carrying out the correct calculations.

    According to him, in order to get 40% alcohol from 95% alcohol, you need to add 1443 ml of water to 1 liter of alcohol available. If you actually have 96% alcohol, then (by extrapolation we calculate) you need to add 1470 ml of water. In reality, if you are not a chemist, you cannot have 96% alcohol, a maximum of 95.5%.

    As already correctly noted above, 96% alcohol at home is very difficult to obtain. The standard alcohol strength is 95%. Below I place a plate in which it is clearly written how much water must be added to alcohol in order to obtain one or another concentration:

    So, from the table it follows that in order to get a 40-degree drink from alcohol with a strength of 95 degrees, you need to add 1443 ml of pure water.

    By the way, it is best to dilute alcohol with spring water, if it is not available, any bottled water or distilled water will do.

    It is clear that if you dilute twice, you will get alcohol with a concentration of 48%. To get a 40% solution, you need to count. If you have 1000 ml (liter) of alcohol, then to get a 40% solution, you need to add 1120 ml of water to this liter.

    We always made it even simpler, diluted 1:1 and drank without bothering too much with counting degrees and grams. In fact, it's not so important. Nothing, no one got poisoned or choked. From dilution, alcohol does not yet become vodka, but what's the difference, how many degrees are there.
