Kashi is an irreplaceable dish of the children's menu. It is a unique source of energy, vegetable proteins, B vitamins and various minerals. Porridge is introduced into the diet of the baby in the period from 4 to 6 months. By this age, the baby begins to move more and expends more energy, so he needs more high-calorie food to make up for energy losses.

Usually porridge is introduced into the child's diet after fruit and vegetable purees. However, according to individual indications, it can be introduced into the child's diet as the first. So, for small children, it is better to first introduce porridge into the diet, and then mashed potatoes.

The modern food industry offers a variety of types of cereals. They are not only easy to use, but also have a number of remarkable properties - they are enriched with vitamins, minerals, iron; easy to swallow and digest; have a delicate taste and a comfortable texture. They do not contain preservatives, artificial colors, stabilizers and chemical additives. Kashi are divided into:

  • dairy, non-dairy;
  • mono- and multicomponent;
  • gluten-free (low-allergenic) and gluten-free;
  • containing various additives;
  • therapeutic and prophylactic.

Dairy-free gluten-free cereals are recommended as the first complementary foods. These include rice, buckwheat and corn. Provided that the baby tolerates these types of cereals well, you can switch to milk cereals and cereals with various additives. Milk porridges are made on the basis, they are high-calorie and are designed to feed healthy children. Porridges with fruit and vegetable additives stimulate the intestines, they are introduced into the diet from 6-7 months. From 9-11 months, you can introduce porridge from whole-ground cereals, specially designed for baby food, into the baby's diet.

There are a number of medicinal cereals designed for children with certain problems. Low-allergenic cereals are prepared on the basis of one type of cereal, do not contain gluten, fruit fillers, fructose and are intended for children with allergies.

Dairy-free cereals are prescribed for children with lactase deficiency and children with an allergy to cow's milk protein. Prebiotic cereals contain inulin and lactulose. They are intended for children with a tendency to constipation.

Industrially produced cereals have an advantage over homemade ones. Firstly, modern technologies make it possible to preserve vitamins in products as much as possible, to make cereals useful, varied and easy to digest. Production technologies make it possible to process vegetables and fruits without loss of useful properties, safely combine various important ingredients in one product, as well as add all the necessary substances (vitamins, minerals) and protect the growing baby from their lack.

Dairy-free instant cereals are made, as a rule, on the basis of rice, buckwheat or corn flour, they may also contain fruits (bananas, apples). Such cereals do not require cooking, they can be dissolved in water, in any dairy food familiar to a child, in diluted cow's milk. Porridges are well digested, do not contain sugar, gluten, are enriched with vitamins.

Buckwheat porridge is rich in vegetable proteins, valuable in terms of amino acid composition. It does not contain gluten, has a maximum content of dietary fiber. It contains vitamins B1, B2, E, salts of iron, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. It has the highest nutritional value.

Rice porridge has a low protein content, but it is very valuable in terms of amino acid composition. Does not contain gluten. The richest in starch content, it is low in sugars, fats and dietary fiber. Rice is well absorbed, belongs to dietary products, is recommended for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (but only if the baby does not have constipation).

Corn porridge is low in protein, gluten free, high in carbohydrates, high in dietary fiber, but low in vitamins and minerals. It is able to inhibit the processes of fermentation and putrefaction in the intestines.

Children with a tendency to constipation are first introduced to cereals with a high content of dietary fiber (buckwheat, corn), and after six months, oatmeal is added. Babies with unstable liquid stools are advised to start with rice porridge and limit the use of buckwheat and oatmeal.

Dairy instant cereals are prepared on the basis of infant formula adapted to the needs baby. They are enriched with essential vitamins, calcium, iron, iodine, zinc, do not contain gluten and dissolve easily in water.

The most optimal for the preparation of mixtures, cereals and other dairy products for young children is environmentally friendly milk. It has several important advantages: it has a naturally balanced composition and contains up to 3-4 times more polyunsaturated fatty acids, which play an important role in the formation of the brain and retina, the functioning of cells and strengthening the immune system. They are best absorbed when found naturally in milk. If the milk was artificially enriched with them, absorption is worse. The secret of ecologically clean milk is simple: it is given by cows that spend 220 days a year on ecologically clean pastures, eat grass and hay, drink clean water and breathe clean air. Such milk is produced only on farms certified for the production of organic products, under strict control. The BIO label on the packaging will help you determine if a dairy product is organic.

Cereal cereals are made from specially processed cereals, as a rule, these are flakes from whole grains of rice, wheat, oats, which retain all the nutrients and are well absorbed. The composition also includes fruits (apples, peaches, banana, mango), as well as fruit juices (for example, apple or orange) and water, which makes the porridge completely ready to eat. Such cereals are low in acid, do not contain milk protein, are produced without the addition of sugar, flavors, dyes, preservatives and thickeners. And if the composition of such porridge includes environmentally friendly vegetables and fruits, then they contain 10-15% more vitamins and useful trace elements, because such vegetables and fruits are grown in environmentally friendly conditions: on environmentally friendly lands, without the use of artificial fertilizers and only traditional methods.

Oatmeal is rich not only in valuable vegetable proteins, but also has a high content of vegetable fats. It contains gluten, a lot of dietary fiber. It contains vitamins B1, B2, PP, E, calcium, phosphorus, iron and magnesium salts. Oatmeal has a high energy value. It is an excellent adsorbent of salts of heavy metals, which is especially important for residents of large industrial cities.

Semolina porridge has a fairly high protein content, which has a low biological value. Contains gluten, also a lot of starch and little fiber, fat.

Dairy porridges of industrial production are completely ready for use, prepared on the basis of a milk mixture adapted to the needs of the child, the composition also includes boiled rice or semolina, fruit puree (apples, pears, apricots). Porridges are enriched with vitamins C, A, E, D, B1 and microelements.

If desired, porridge can be cooked independently. Requirements for homemade cereals are as follows. Porridge is boiled in water, and then 20-30 ml of breast milk or mixture is added to it. You can add butter (3-5 gr.) or 10% baby cream to your own cereals. Whole milk is used in the preparation of cereals for children over one year old. Semolina porridge can be cooked for children only after a year. Porridges from several cereals can be prepared only after you have made sure that the baby is not allergic to individual components.

And what about LINEN porridge? We are 5 months old. We eat buckwheat, rice and oatmeal on the water with fruits ... I want to try flaxseed (they say it is very healthy), but I don’t know if it’s possible (I can’t find anything on the Internet). Maybe someone knows?

Somehow it so happened that most of our baby food products are Humana. Porridge in particular, because the variety is large and the child eats it best of all. Allergies, again, no. I always read the composition very carefully, especially when it comes to baby food. My children didn’t eat homemade porridge for a long time: not because I was lazy, but because I didn’t want to. They really didn’t want to - right up to the gag reflex :-) Then I went to a large store, re-read all the annotations on all the packs and chose a few dairy-free ones for the first tasting. And the child chose for himself a more suitable Humana. They stayed on it. And after a while, without any problems, he began to eat adult porridge.

School modernization is a topical issue for our state. If we look at the process of development of the institution of the school, then on a general scale we will see that the school has not changed conceptually since the 18th century. The core of this concept can be considered, I suppose, the following model: teacher-textbook-assessment-student. The core of the concept itself resembles a kind of hut-like crystal, rather than a sphere. The hut as a strictly defined model of space organization, where each corner has a special function, and for each resident of the hut...

At the same time, the introduction of complementary foods can actually begin a little later, if the maturation of the baby is delayed or the baby is sick. Today, experts also suggest taking into account the following signs: extinction of the ejection reflex - if something gets into the baby's mouth, he does not immediately try to push it out with his tongue; doubling birth weight...

Nutrition of children of the first year of life performs several functions. The first is to give the child the substances necessary for growth and development. With the standard scheme for the introduction of complementary foods, the next step after vegetables to introduce the baby to food from the common table is cereals. They are nutritious, rich in valuable substances and "long-playing" carbohydrates, which will provide the baby with energy to explore the world around him during the day and a calm and long sleep at night. A child up to a year must first be introduced cereal, and then cereal dairy-free baby cereals. The finished dish is diluted with the usual mixture or mother's milk.

Types of cereals for baby food

Baby cereals, as an element of complementary foods, are distinguished:
  • dairy-free - this type is the most suitable for starting complementary foods, especially at the age of 9-12 months, in the first days of intestinal diseases, with lactose deficiency;
  • dairy - nutritionists advise to introduce no earlier than 9-10 months if they are on goat's milk, 12 - if they are on cow's;
  • gluten-containing - cereals: oatmeal, barley, semolina, corn ("adult");
  • gluten-free - cereals: rice, buckwheat, baby corn, millet;
  • dry instant - do not require cooking on fire, just pour warm boiled water and let stand for 3-5 minutes;
  • dry, in need of cooking;
  • "muesli" - for children from 9 months and older;
  • wellings or drinking cereals, usually milk-cereal. They are convenient in the sense that they help babies (especially those on IV) to quietly “rebuild” from liquid food to thick food. It is better to buy the same brand as the chosen milk formula.

The role of cereals in the diet of a child

Kashi is a very valuable product in the diet of both an adult and a small person. Dishes from cereals and cereals are included in the basis - a special schematic representation of the basics of a healthy diet. Both cereals and cereals are sources of fiber, which, as you know, improves digestion, acts as a sorbent, removing harmful substances from the body, and helps to reduce the level of "bad" cholesterol. Also, cereals are a storehouse of macronutrients and vitamins, without which the harmonious development of a child is impossible. Each of them is useful in its own way.

Buckwheat

Buckwheat is not unreasonably considered the queen of cereals. It is ideal for starting acquaintance with dairy-free cereals, including as an initial introduction to adult nutrition.

  • Buckwheat is rich in vitamins PP, E, B1, B2 and B9 (folic acid). The latter is vital for the creation and growth of new cells, support for their functioning, stable operation of the nervous system.
  • It contains a protein similar in composition to the protein of chicken eggs, but easier to digest. In addition, a number of vital amino acids were found in cereals.
  • Buckwheat porridge is a valuable source of iron, which is necessary for blood formation and the prevention of anemia, as well as phosphorus and calcium (bone growth), zinc (nail and skin health), copper, manganese.
  • Buckwheat is a storehouse of the Omega 3 group of unsaturated fatty acids, the synthesis of which does not occur in the human body. They are needed to support the normal growth of the child, kidney function, accelerate the immune response and wound healing, and platelet clotting.
  • A substance called rutin, which helps lower blood pressure, can also be found in this dish.

Rice

Dairy-free rice porridge enriched with dietary fiber is an ideal complementary food for babies with a tendency to diarrhea. It perfectly “strengthens” and improves digestion.

  • White rice is a source of carbohydrates, which means energy. It is inferior in the content of nutrients to dark, unpolished, but easier for the delicate intestines of the baby.
  • Rice porridge is rich in B vitamins, which automatically makes it necessary for the functioning of the brain.
  • It is also an excellent body cleanser of toxins and toxins, which is very important in regions with poor environmental conditions.

corn

For primary feeding, it is recommended to buy a special baby, gluten-free and dairy-free corn porridge. Dishes from store-bought, “adult” cereals can be introduced to a child closer to a year, when the digestive system becomes more mature.
  • Corn porridge among cereals is the leader in the content of vitamin A. It improves the appearance and functions of the skin (in infants, as you know, the processes of thermoregulation and sweating are not yet quite normal).
  • Hominy is rich in silicon and fluorine - trace elements that help strengthen bones, grow hair and teeth.

oatmeal

Oatmeal for adults is mainly associated with dietary nutrition, but it can be introduced into the diet of an infant no earlier than 7-8 months, depending on . The reason is that oatmeal contains gluten, a vegetable protein that, without prior preparation of the baby’s gastrointestinal tract, may seem difficult to digest. Nevertheless:
  • Oatmeal contains many vitamins H, E, PP, group B. It is also a source of essential amino acids, incl. and methionine - a reliable friend of the nervous system.
  • The use of porridge from oats improves the functioning of the pancreas and liver, and also facilitates the process of absorption and synthesis of fats.

semolina

But semolina, which our generation has been eating since 3-4 months, is in last place in the modern rating of baby food. Yes, it is satisfying, tender and tasty, but, as it turned out, it slows down the absorption of calcium and prevents the synthesis of vitamin D. In addition, semolina porridge is the leader in gluten content - an enzyme is simply not yet produced in the gastrointestinal tract of the baby, able to break it down. Nutritionists strongly recommend introducing it into the diet after a year, and not eating more than 1-2 times a week. "Love" for semolina threatens with excess weight, liver dysfunction and the development of food allergies.
  • Semolina is not inferior to the rest in terms of the content of vegetable protein, folic acid, vitamins E and group B, but cholecalciferol (B3) is several times less.
  • Among the minerals in semolina, potassium and phosphorus lead (130 mg and 85 mg per 100 g, respectively). There is also calcium, sulfur, magnesium, chlorine, iron, zinc, vanadium, molybdenum - about 20 different micro and macro elements in total.
In order for the child to receive all the necessary substances, after the introduction of each type of cereal, it is ideal to cook them “in a circle”, i.e. alternate.

When to introduce dairy-free cereals?

Based on the scenario of introducing the baby to the “adult” table, the duet of mother and pediatrician stopped, the introduction of monocomponent cereal dairy-free baby cereals should approximately occur at 5.5-6.5 months, if this is the initial complementary foods, and at 7 months, if cereals, as a second complementary food, are offered after or fermented milk products.

The introduction of monocomponent cereal dairy-free cereals (oatmeal, millet, barley, semolina) can be started from 9 months, but most children's nutritionists still tend to the position that it is better after a year. Recent studies show that to produce an enzyme capable of breaking down gluten, the child's gastrointestinal tract begins to produce only from 2-2.5 years.

Starting with dairy-free cereals as the first complementary foods is recommended for babies with poor weight gain and frequent stools. The most appropriate reason to start complementary foods with this dish is viral diarrhea and the diagnosis of hypotrophy, in which the baby is lagging behind in weight.

Only 4-7 weeks after the start of the introduction of dairy-free cereals, it is possible to introduce the crumbs to one-component dairy, but only for the conditions that the child suffered the first appearance in the diet without negative reactions.

How to choose porridge for baby food?

Moms have probably already noticed that the entire article focuses on cereal-free dairy-free children's cereals. As mentioned above, primary or secondary complementary foods should be started with them. This does not mean that milk cannot be added at all: ready-made dairy-free porridge can and should be diluted with milk expressed from the breast or a mixture that is fed to the baby.

Buy ready-made baby porridge or cook it yourself with “adult” cereals - it doesn’t matter, it all depends on the mother’s free time. From the point of view of convenience, at first it is preferable to start acquaintance with cereals with one-component "packaging" options. In addition, they are hypoallergenic, have a structure corresponding to the age of the child, and are quick to prepare.

Lure is best to start with buckwheat or rice. Carefully study the packaging and make sure once again that it is not based on milk, and also does not have any flavoring additives - sugar, salt, flavorings, etc.

Babies suffering from constipation need to be introduced to the diet of cereals rich in dietary fiber. These include buckwheat and baby corn.

Babies with an unstable stool would be wise to give rice porridge, practically avoiding buckwheat and oatmeal.

Children with any form of food allergy and atopic dermatitis should not be introduced to dairy and gluten-containing products under one year of age.

How to introduce dairy-free porridge with milk content?

Children's nutritionists recommend the following order of introducing cereals into the baby's diet:
  • 6-7 months: rice, buckwheat, corn;
  • 7-8 months: oatmeal, + you can offer multi-component mixtures of rice, corn and buckwheat;
  • 9-10 months: barley, barley, millet, erysipelas;
  • 10-12 months: offer multi-cereals from the above components;
  • 12 months and older - wheat, semolina.
At the same time, you must adhere to the following rule:
(1) Dairy Free Gluten → (2) Dairy Gluten Free → (3) Dairy Gluten → (4) Dairy Gluten.

Multicomponent cereals from a mixture of cereals are introduced only when the child is familiar with each of the ingredients separately.

After 8-9 months, small amounts of finely chopped fruits or dried fruits, berries can be added to cereal or cereal dishes.

From 10 months, porridge can be boiled in 1:1 diluted goat's milk (after it is introduced into the diet), and from 12 months - in 1:1 diluted cow's milk (also after successful introduction).

Ideal time is second breakfast. If porridge is the first complementary food, then they start with half a teaspoon, and every new day the volume is increased. Until the amount of porridge reaches the age norm (50-100 g at 6 months and 100-150 g at 7 months), the child is breast-fed. In principle, if the mother of the GV is not going to turn off yet, the breast can still be offered.

If porridge is the second complementary food, after vegetables or sour milk, it is still given in the morning. Porridge is offered before vegetable puree or mixed with it. The scheme of administration remains the same: first half a teaspoon, then a whole one, then 2 spoons, and until the new food “moves” vegetables from breakfast. At this very time, the child is fed with the displaced vegetable puree in one of the afternoon meals, allowing him to "satiate" with the breast / mixture.

In the case of using a special porridge for baby food, it is bred according to the instructions. If mom prepares complementary foods from ordinary cereals, then you need to follow a special recipe. You will need to cook 5% porridge - based on 5 g of cereal per 100 water. Such thin porridge is fed to the child for about 7 days, until they are convinced that there are no negative reactions and will not be brought to the age volume. Then the dish is prepared already thicker - at the rate of 10 g of cereal per 100 g of water, and again the child is given 5-7 days to get used to it. Only after two weeks can you start introducing a new cereal.

Important! You can not give the baby porridge from a bottle - only from a spoon. It is necessary that in the oral cavity it undergoes a preliminary enzymatic treatment with saliva, namely its components - amylase and lysozyme. These enzymes help the food in the stomach break down into substances of molecular size.

Daily amount of porridge from 6 months to a year

The numbers in the table are approximate, the child can eat a little more or a little less.

A visual diagram of the introduction of dairy-free porridge

The following table - the scheme for entering dairy-free baby cereals into the menu of the baby - is not an axiom when introducing complementary foods, but can be perfectly used by parents without adjustment. The scheme is designed for the fact that the baby has already received food in the form of vegetable puree, acquaintance with porridge occurs in the first half of the day, the introduction of cereals occurs normally, without deteriorating the child's health.

R - rice
G - buckwheat
K - corn
C - butter

Popular brands of baby food: dairy and dairy-free cereals

Almost all manufacturers of baby food produce a line of cereals for babies. When looking for the “same” brand that is ideal for your baby, you need to take into account the brand ratings, reviews of real customers and, of course, the composition: there should not be sugar or salt, taste simulators, flavorings and other unnecessary additives, and for 6- 8-month-old babies - also milk and gluten. For this reason, the market for cereals for baby food should be studied even before they are introduced into the diet, in order to prevent the possible health of the crumbs.

It is also worth noting that the age at which the manufacturer "allows" feeding a child with porridge almost always differs downward from that recommended by WHO. Remember, when it comes to introducing your baby to "adult" food, "later" and "slower" is always better than "earlier" and "faster."

Rules for handling purchased cereals for baby food

In order for the second stage of the introduction of complementary foods (and for some, the first) to go without trouble, you should pay attention to some nuances when choosing, buying, storing and preparing baby cereals.

1. It is worth avoiding buying baby food in dubious shops or in the market - storage conditions may not be observed.

2. The packaging, especially the inner one, must not be damaged. If you overlooked and bought such a porridge - throw it away without regret: the health of the child is more important than any money.
3. Observe the storage conditions - in a dry and dark place, without fragrant "neighbors". If the inner bag does not have a special fastener, close it with a clothespin.
4. Most cereals cannot be boiled or hall use boiling water - only warm boiled water.
5. It is forbidden to give the child porridge,
the specified period after the opening of which has expired - there is a risk of infection of cereals with moths or microorganisms.
6. It is forbidden to leave "for later" already diluted porridge that the child has not finished eating - just throw it away.

One of the most favorite and popular breakfast dishes is milk porridge. This dish perfectly saturates the body and gives a boost of energy for the whole day, but how could it be otherwise, because cereals are a source of energy, and milk is a wonderful source of protein and vitamins. Both components are very beneficial for health.

Usually porridges with a viscous consistency are boiled in milk, so a little more liquid is needed for their preparation than for the rest. Each cereal has its own characteristics and individual cooking secrets, but there are general rules for everyone:

- Any, except for semolina and oatmeal, is washed before cooking;

- Grains fall asleep in a boiling liquid;

- Porridge with milk salts a little more than porridge with water;

- In the process of cooking, milk is first salted, and only then cereals are poured;

- Some cereals are first cooked in water, and then cooked in milk;

- Any porridge after cooking should evaporate a little. The porridge is evaporated for exactly as long as it was cooked on the fire.

Recipes for cooking different cereals in milk

Millet

Before you start cooking, the millet is thoroughly washed with warm water, rubbing the grits in the palms for better cleansing, about seven times. The last time it is recommended to pour boiling water over the cereal, this will help get rid of the excess bitterness that may be present in it. After washing, millet is poured with a large volume of hot water and sent to the stove. The porridge is cooked until half ready, it takes about ten minutes, then the water is drained and the cereal is poured with hot milk. For one glass of dry millet, about a glass of milk is taken. Porridge with milk is again put on fire, covered with a lid and boiled soft. When the cereal has completely absorbed the milk, you can turn it off and enjoy a delicious dish.

Manka

The most important thing to remember about semolina is that it is not really cereal, it is the flour of their durum wheat variety of coarse grinding. It is very simple to prepare, it boils quickly, but there are some subtleties in cooking: it is cooked quickly and the proportions are precisely observed.

To prepare semolina in milk, you will need:

One and a half cups of semolina;

Liter of milk.

Cooking:

The grits are poured into boiled milk through a sieve, this avoids knocking the grits into lumps. Porridge is boiled over high heat for two minutes, stirring all the time, then covered with a lid, turn off the heat and let it brew for 10-15 minutes. Porridge must be left on the switched off burner, so it acquires all its taste qualities. After insisting, it is not necessary to interfere, the porridge can be scattered on plates and allowed to stand, it will harden, after which it can be cut into pieces and eaten with a fork if you are a fan of cold cereals.

Do not worry if after two minutes of cooking it does not become thick, it will stand, steam, the grains will swell, and it will become the desired consistency. At the end, you can put a little butter in the porridge, sprinkle with sugar, or add a little jam.

Oatmeal

To prepare porridge, oatmeal or oatmeal is taken. To begin with, they are boiled in hot water, then rubbed through a sieve to get rid of the husks and other hard parts. For cooking, 2 parts of water and one part of flakes are taken. Next, the porridge mashed through a sieve is poured with milk, again in proportions of 2: 1, if you want a very liquid porridge, you can take even more milk. Cook for about seven minutes and set aside. Infuse for about five minutes, add sugar, honey or jam to taste. You can also put a little chocolate, dried fruits in porridge, spices combine well: cardamom, cinnamon, vanilla and nutmeg. You can decorate the porridge with citrus zest, which will also give an unusual taste and be sure to put a little oil. If you want to make the porridge very tender, you should add cream.

This porridge recipe is also called “Children's Oatmeal”, because in fact it turns out to be very tender, and you can give it to any kid without fear that he will come across some kind of mote or scale, besides, it is very tasty.

As you know, rice is very poorly boiled in a dairy environment, so it is first boiled in water. Before cooking, rice is thoroughly washed with water several times to wash off dust and debris, then sent to boiling water and boiled for five minutes. After the time has passed, they are sent to a colander and allowed to drain well. After that, rice porridge is poured into boiling milk. Four glasses of milk are taken for one glass of rice cereal, in proportions it is worth pushing away from personal preferences for the consistency of porridge. Bring rice in milk to a boil, make the fire quieter and cook for ten minutes under a closed lid. Then turn off the fire and let it brew for another fifteen minutes. To keep the temperature, the pan can be wrapped in a towel.

Put a little oil and your favorite additives into the finished porridge.
