How to color an apple from dough

MK painting apple

Very interesting and informative master class!

You can just say brilliant! Of course, you will need patience and a little artist's talent, but after all, the main desire is this idea!

And what can you come up with from this lesson - who has enough imagination for what!

So meet - How to mold an Apple from dough! Rather, how to color it!

Painting with ordinary gouache.

First, cover the top of the apple with white gouache

Slightly adding green at the petiole ...

Yellow gouache over white and it is not necessary to wait for complete drying.

The photo shows how they begin to mix.

Feel free to take red gouache and lay the bottom of the apple (as the plot is intended).

With brush No. 2, we begin the “stretching”, i.e. draw red to yellow.

How hard it is to write - it's better to show it live.

Brush No. 1 we perform the connection of layers, comb gently along the hair ....

I also paint cats.

You see, I keep my work upside down, it's easier that way.

So first we do a red gouache stretch -

and then white-yellow in the opposite direction.

It’s easier with leaves, I mix green and then yellow ...

Woo-a-la! Ready!

I cover with varnish, one layer of leaves and two layers of an apple.

This is already framed.

The base is pasted over with wallpaper (textured), it will be better to hold on.

Ladybugs again?

They close the defect at the frame.

And you can indulge in greenery - it's easier to paint.

This apple also hung, it doesn’t even have a frame, because. molded from leftover dough. But I showed you another version of the painting

I have been using the dough recipe since 1998, but a lot depends on the flour (under what conditions it was grown), i.e. gluten quality.

300gr. flour (2 cups), 300 gr. salt "Extra" (1 glass) - coarse salt can be ground - the effect is interesting for the dough, + 200 ml. water (almost 1 cup), 1 tbsp. sunflower spoon oil (or without it). Mix everything in a bowl, put it on the table and knead for about 5 minutes, and here you will feel whether you need to add flour or not (make sausage from dough - if it stands upright, then the dough is normal). I determine from experience. Everything is in a plastic bag and in the refrigerator, I mold it the next day - it is more obedient.

The works are stored for a very long time, they only gather dust - they brushed off the dust with a brush, let them decorate the walls further.

In this article, you will learn how to make your own salt dough and how to dry it. Many photos and step-by-step instructions will help you make a dough craft for any holiday.

For modeling with young children, it is better to use salt dough or Play Doh plasticine.

How to make dough for crafts: recipe

You can make your own dough with just a few simple ingredients: flour, fine salt, citric acid, vegetable oil and water.

Mix first 1 cup of flour with 0.5 cups of salt and 2 teaspoons of citric acid. Pour into a saucepan, add 1 tablespoon of oil to the dry mixture. Place over medium heat, gradually add water and stir. Water should take no more than 0.5 cups. When the mass lags behind the walls of the pan and becomes one lump, remove the pan from the heat. Take out the mass, put it on a board sprinkled with flour, and, like a regular dough, knead with your hands.

If you want to make colored dough for modeling, you first need to dilute dry food coloring in water. You can also add a little gouache to the finished dough and knead it well so that the color becomes uniform.

How to prepare salt dough for modeling?

Prepare salt dough. Color it in different colors, depending on what you want to mold. The dough can be made uncolored, divided into balls and a little gouache of the desired color can be added to each and kneaded. It is better to make a dough of regular colors, and then mix them to achieve the desired.

Keep the dough in a bag, or wrap it in cling film, you can put it in a closed container so that it does not dry out. If it still dries out, add a little water, and if it is too wet, add a little flour.

  1. Make the dough thinner and just spread it on the base of the craft, so you can make butter on a slice of bread, or make chocolate icing for a cake from brown dough.
  2. Try on food you've made with toy plates you'll play with later to match.
  3. To stick pieces of salt dough together, use a wet brush. Spread the junction with a brush, and stick the parts to each other
  4. When sculpting food for dolls, it is very important to make the dough the same color as the original as possible, for example, carrots should be orange, not yellow or red.
  5. So that the colors do not fade, open the craft with varnish. For classes with children, you need to use special harmless varnishes, they do not have an unpleasant odor, because they are made on a water basis

Drying figures from salt dough for modeling

There are two ways to dry salt dough crafts.

  1. Air dry crafts. It is best if you put them on a smooth surface and leave for a few days. When the craft is dry, turn it over or lay it on its side so that it dries on all sides.
  2. Baking in the oven. Preheat the oven well, put baking paper on a baking sheet, lay out the crafts on top, put in the oven and turn off the heat. The oven must be closed and not opened until completely dry. You can also bake crafts at a temperature of 100 ° C, but in this case, you need to watch them so that they do not burn.

These two methods can be combined, for example, dry for an hour in the oven, then leave in the air, after a while still in the oven, and so on until it dries.

Of course, if there are other decorations (beads, beads) in the craft, you need to dry it in the first way.

Master class "Pot of fruit" in the technique of modeling from colored salt dough.

Author: Nazarova Tatyana Nikolaevna -Teacher of additional education House of childhood and youth in Millerovo

The master class is intended for teachers of additional education, technology teachers, students of primary school age, primary school teachers.
Purpose: souvenir, gift for the holiday of March 8.
Target: to make a souvenir "Pot of Fruit" from colored salt dough.
Tasks:
Educational: master the technique of working with colored salt dough, the technique of sculpting fruits;
Developing: develop accuracy, artistic thinking; the ability to arrange composition elements on a plane;
Educational: stimulate the desire to give gifts made by oneself. To instill a love for working with colored salt dough.

Necessary materials:
Salt "Extra", flour of the highest grade, a flower pot with a diameter of 8 cm, a rolling pin, a glass of cold water, a brush, a stack, a simple pencil, cuttings for dough: "flower", "leaf", "five-leaf", "clove" seeds , newspaper, food coloring: red, yellow, orange, light green, dark green, lilac, blue.
When working with colored salt dough, make sure that your workplace is always clean. Always remove the rest of the colored pieces of dough from the work surface of the table. Every time after working with one color, be sure to wash your hands, because even slight remnants of colored dough on your hands can stain other dough, change color. After washing, be sure to dust your hands with flour.
Salt Dough Recipe:
1. Pour 3 cups of flour + 1.5 cups of salt into a deep bowl. Mix well.
2. In a small bowl, pour 0.5 tbsp from a large bowl. "salt flour" + red food coloring at the tip of a teaspoon, + 100 ml of cold water and knead a tight dough.
3. Pour out the "salty flour" and knead the yellow, blue, orange, lilac and green shades of the salt dough in the same way.
4. To make white dough for flowers, do not add food coloring when kneading.

5. After kneading, store the finished colored dough in plastic bags. Each color in its own bag, so that the colors do not mix.
Progress:

Crumple the newspaper into a ball and tightly fill the flower pot.

Spread a lump of light green dough, about the size of an apple, over the newspaper, filling the holes. It should be a flat surface. The dough should not protrude beyond the edges of the pot.

Roll out a ball of light green dough with a rolling pin. The thickness of the dough is 2-3 mm. Cut out 9 leaves with a “wavy sheet” cutter. Make notches on the leaves with a stack.

Moisten the dough with water along the sides of the pot with a brush and put the cut out leaves. We use water instead of glue. Cold water perfectly glues the dough to the dough.

Let's get started with yellow. Remove a lump of dough the size of a large plum from a plastic bag. Dust the table with flour, put the dough on the table and form a pear.

Moisten the very edge of the pot with water, touching the leaves, and put the pear, pressing it down slightly. It will stick firmly to the green dough. Wash again, and “spray” your hands.

Take a lump of orange dough the size of a small plum. With your palms, form an even, without cracks and veins "kolobok". With the same palms, slightly pressing, form an apricot from the “kolobok”. Hold an apricot in the palm of your hand. With a stack, pressing a little, swipe along the center of the apricot. As if dividing into two parts. Apricot is ready. Moisten the place next to the pear and place the apricot, pressing down a little. By the same principle, blind another apricot and glue it.

We make small strawberries from red dough. Wish they were the same size. Roll out a cherry-sized ball of dough with your palms. You should get a "bun" without veins and cracks. Slightly pressing on the edge of the "kolobok" form a strawberry. Blind two more strawberries.

Put the strawberries in the center, next to the pears and apricots. Push the grains in a stack. Don't forget to glue them down with water.

At a small distance from each other, glue the plums with water. Blind them from lilac dough, according to the same principle as apricots.

From the blue dough, form small berries the size of large currants and glue them with water between the fruits.

Pressing into each blue berry, insert a clove.

Let's work again with the red dough. Form small beads from the dough and glue them two berries side by side, forming a bunch of currants. Make dimples in the center of each currant with a pencil.

Roll out a small ball of dark green dough with a rolling pin 2-3 mm thick. Cut out three five-leaf leaves and a leaf for a pear. On a leaf for a pear, make notches with a stack.

Moisten the tops of the strawberries with water and glue the five leaves. Pear leaf glue on the barrel.

Roll out a ball of white, uncolored dough with a rolling pin 3-4 mm thick. Cut out a “flower” with a die cut, 4-5 flowers. Glue the flowers to the free space. In each flower, in the center with the back of the brush, press a hole and glue a small yellow pea into it. These flowers resemble the color of strawberries.

Here is our fruit pot and ready. The fruit composition turned out to be voluminous, so it will take much more time to dry than flat crafts. Dry the pot preferably in a dry, well-ventilated place. Dry for approximately 3-4 weeks. A white coating will be visible on the surface of the fruit. It was salt, but do not be alarmed. After drying, open the fruit composition with glossy varnish, and the fruit in the pot will look like real ones. Ripe, juicy and appetizing. So I want to eat them.
Make gifts with your own hands and delight your loved ones.

We develop:

1. fine motor skills;
2. desire to create.

Salt dough preparation: to prepare salty dough you need to mix one glass of salt with one glass of flour, a little water, you can add a drop of vegetable oil. The dough is ready.

Salt dough vegetables and fruits

1. Apple - a fruit made from salt dough

Roll up the ball. In the upper part, make a recess with a rod. Insert a cutting into it - a thin short sausage. You can put a small leaf on the barrel. Insert a small clove into the bottom of the apple.

2. Peach, plum

It is necessary either to assemble from two identical parts, smoothing the joint on one side, or to draw a deep groove through the cellophane along the side of the rolled form.

3. Pear

Roll it into a ball, roll it out a little to lengthen it, and then stretch the top half a little more to make it thinner than the bottom. From below, stick a small clove, as in the case of an apple.

4. Raspberry

Can be assembled from individual balls by putting them on a cone-shaped base. Put small leaves on top of the berry and attach the stalk.

5. Strawberries

Vertical notches are made with a toothpick.

6. Peels of oranges and lemons

Make the texture of the orange peel with a fountain pen, with shallow touches over the entire surface.

7. Grapes

It is assembled from small round or oval balls.

8. Cutaway Salt Dough Fruit

Just roll out a fairly thick layer of dough, preferably between planks. Cut out a circle to the size you want. Then with another round shape, slightly smaller, push a smaller circle, indicating a crust. On oranges, lemons and tangerines, draw grooves along the ruler separating the slices. Color the finished product. In this way, you can make watermelon, apple, kiwi, citrus fruits, etc.

9. Pumpkin

Slightly flatten the dough ball and make indentations at the top and bottom with your finger, fasten a thick stalk with a wide base in the upper indentation. Through the cellophane, draw vertical grooves on the pumpkin.

10. Tail for radishes or turnips

Roll separately and attach with water, trying to mask the junction. However, it is not necessary to make long tails for these root crops - they are quite fragile. It will be enough just to mark the tail by pinching the product in the right place.

11. Salted dough vegetables - cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant, peppers

They are made quite simply: roll sausages of the desired thickness, where necessary - make thinner, where necessary - sharpen. Bend as needed for a natural look.

12. Carrot

With a stack or a knife, make short horizontal notches in a mess. Attach several pieces of sausage to the top of the head, imitating a cropped tail.

13. Potato - a vegetable made from salt dough

Rinse in places to make it look uneven, and in some places apply notches with a stack.

Modeling dough http://shkola7gnomov.ru/parrents/eto_interesno/razvivayuschie_zanyatiya/id/806

There are several recipes for making salt dough:

1 way (the easiest) .

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 glass of salt
  • 1 glass of water

Salt is dissolved in water, then flour is added and the dough is kneaded.

2 way (more difficult)

  • 1 glass of salt
  • 1 cup wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 0.5 cups of water

The ingredients are mixed with a spoon, then kneaded with your hands until smooth, just like regular dough. The dough should be cool, not sticky to your hands and not crumble. If the dough doesn't stick well, add water. If it sticks to your hands, add flour.

3 way (color dough)

In order not to have to decorate products, you can sculpt immediately from colored dough.

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/3 cup salt

In 1/4 cup of water, dilute the gouache paint of the desired color. Stirring constantly, add the resulting solution to a mixture of flour and salt, knead a stiff dough.

Pieces of colored dough can be mixed, just like paints. To do this, knead 2 pieces of dough until they become homogeneous.

Drying methods

You can dry dough products in the oven; outdoors or a combination.

Dry in the oven at the lowest temperature (approximately 75 degrees) and with the door open so that it does not crack. When the dough is a little browned, the temperature can be raised to 100 degrees. Firing time, depending on the thickness of the product - 1-2 hours. Keep an eye on the readiness of the product, as small parts dry much faster. Bubbles and cracks are a clear sign of overheating crafts. Reduce the temperature or move the baking sheet with the product to the top shelf.

It will take much longer to dry with air (about 3-4 days). It is not recommended to put crafts in direct sunlight or on a warm battery. Since the products can crack and crumble. From time to time, the parts must be very carefully turned from one side to the other.

Combined drying is suitable for voluminous stucco products. First, the craft is kept in the air for 1-2 days, and then dried in the oven.

Coloring, glazing and varnishing products

After the product has completely dried, we proceed to its coloring. To do this, you can use gouache, acrylic or watercolor paints. If you add PVA glue when painting in gouache, then the product will shine slightly and will not stain your hands in the future.

Frosting. When about an hour remains before the end of drying, to give the product a warm shade, it can be covered with glaze. To do this, every 5-10 minutes, a saline (1 part salt to 2 parts of water) or egg (1 egg to 1 glass of water) solution is applied with a brush.

Lacquering. You can fix the paint with varnish using acrylic varnish. It gives the craft shine and emphasizes its color. Acrylic varnish is water-soluble, non-toxic and dries in 6-8 hours. A similar effect can be achieved by covering the product with PVA glue.

Various types of flour can be mixed, such as wheat and rye flour .

Flour: It is best to buy white wheat flour of the highest grade, it has enough gluten, and the color of the baked products will please the eye. But if you have conceived some special product, as an experiment, you can try any other.

Salt: Due to the salt content, the dough keeps its shape well when molding, and the finished product will be reliably protected from mold and rodents. In order for your products to have a flat, smooth surface, it is better to use the finest “extra” salt. Try not to use a coffee grinder to grind salt.
Salt is added to the dough solely to protect against mice and harmful insects. Therefore, a large amount of it, in essence, is not required. Too much salt can make the dough brittle and brittle after drying, which leads to the formation of cracks in the product. Salt can be used any, even the cheapest. Coarse salt is easy to grind in a coffee grinder.

Water: You will need water to make salt dough. She must be clean. Tap water is best filtered. Knead the dough in ice water, it will be more elastic.

There are many recipes for making salt dough. There is probably no one that suits everyone. You need to experiment on your own and choose one that is pleasant to work with.

First recipe:
Wheat flour - 2 cups,
Salt "Extra" - 1 glass,
Water - 3/4 cup.

Second recipe:
Wheat flour - 1 cup,
Salt "Extra" - 2 cups,
Dry wallpaper paste - 1 spoon,
Water - about 1 cup.

Additives: The quality of the material can be improved:
- by adding 1 tablespoon of potato starch to the classic recipe, be sure to sift it so that there are no lumps, we will increase the plasticity of the material,
- adding 1-2 teaspoons of wallpaper paste will increase the strength of products.

Pour salt into a wide bowl, add water, then flour. Mix everything well. Put the prepared dough in a container or in a plastic bag.
Proceed as if you want to make dough for baking.
If the dough sticks to your hands, add a little flour, if it crumbles, pour in a small amount of water.

Modeling dough should be quite steep, so it is more convenient to finally knead it on the table, kneading thoroughly, achieving uniformity and elasticity.

When kneading, the density of the dough can be adjusted: if the dough begins to crumble, water is added to it, and if it turns out to be too soft, salt and flour are added, keeping their basic proportions. Knead the dough until it becomes elastic and pliable. The finished salt dough should be put in the refrigerator for a couple of hours (you can leave it overnight). When cooled, it will become more plastic and homogeneous.

Attention advice! Kneading the dough on the table. Don't forget to dust your countertop with flour. to keep the dough from sticking

Attention advice! It is better to knead the dough in a deep bowl, gradually pouring the sifted flour into the water with the salt dissolved in it. When kneading dough with additives, you need to mix salt with starch or glue (or with both components together) in a bowl, pour the mixture with water, mix and add flour in small portions.

Advice. Salt dough left open in the air dries very quickly, so keep the container covered. Put the rest of the unused dough in the refrigerator, where it can be stored for a day or two.

Rye flour gives the products a warm brown tint of rustic bread. The recipe for salt dough made from rye dough is almost the same as the classic one.

Recipe for salt dough made from rye flour.
♦ 3 cups (about 300 g) wheat flour
♦ 1 cup (about 100 g) rye flour
♦ 2 cups (about 400 g) salt
♦ 1.5 cups (about 250 ml) water

The weight of rye dough may not correspond to the volume required for a given product, therefore, for the same product, slightly more dough should be prepared from rye flour than from wheat flour.

ADVICE. The elasticity of the dough and the strength of products from it can be increased by adding 1-2 teaspoons of dry wallpaper paste, diluted in a small amount of water or mixed with flour and salt, while kneading, before adding water.

MIXING THE DOUGH.
So that the salt dough does not tear and crumble during it, you need to knead and knead it well until it becomes elastic.

ADVICE. For a dough that works well, use a mixture of wheat and rye flour. Dough made from rye flour alone is too hard and difficult to mold.

It is most convenient to store salt dough in the refrigerator, placing it in a plastic bag. for colored dough, it is better to use separate jars with a lid. But it is best to knead the amount of dough that you can process within 2-3 days.

During long-term storage, the dough becomes damp and during baking gives an ugly gray tint (at the same time, unwanted spots may appear in the most unexpected places). If this nevertheless happened, do not be discouraged and try to paint this product with paints.

note that fresh dough and dough that has lain in the refrigerator for 2-3 days will give two different tones when baked (even when salt and flour are added to the last), Therefore, if you have a very small piece from the previous batch, try using this property. It will be even more interesting if you tonally highlight individual fragments of some product, for example, mittens, a hat, a scarf, buttons, etc. Otherwise, it is best to hide the rest of the test inside a large figure.

If you decide to create a colored salt dough craft, then the recipe for a regular salt dough will not work for you, try making a colored, colored dough.
Coloring can be done at the stage of kneading, as well as when kneading the dough.
At the stage of kneading the dough, coloring is done when the composition is based on a combination of two colors.
The first color is white (natural dough according to the classic recipe), the second is brown.

To obtain it, ordinary cocoa powder is added during kneading (do not forget to sift it through a sieve before use). You can add instant coffee instead of cocoa (having previously dissolved 2-3 teaspoons in a minimum amount of boiling water). The amount of cocoa or coffee depends on the intensity of the brown tone you want to get. The more shades your product has, the more interesting it will look.

Also keep in mind that additional browning will appear during the baking process. Since brown is not the main color in the composition, you should not knead it in large quantities. Note that cocoa and coffee produce different shades of brown. Choose the one you like best or use both.

Red and orange dyes are the most intense, therefore, to obtain a test of these colors, you can use not a whole, but only half a bag for one prepared bun weighing 100-150 g. Any food dyes can be used to color salt dough, but dyes for Easter eggs are suitable Not all.

In order to get the dough of various colors and shades, you need to start with the primary colors: yellow, red, blue. To do this, you will need food coloring, which is sold in powder form.

Prepare the dough according to the classic recipe.

Attention! It is better to make two servings at once. Use one portion to make dough for primary colors. After kneading, put the second one in the refrigerator: it will come in handy later when you need to prepare tint tones.
. For the main colors, dilute the powder of each color separately in 1 teaspoon of water, stirring well.
. Prepare a cup of flour, a cup of salt, a cup of water, and a teaspoon.

Attention! When working with colored dough, keep in mind that when it dries, it brightens a little. Divide the first portion of the dough into koloboks weighing 100-150 g. Take one kolobok, make a recess in it, pour in the diluted dye and knead the dough thoroughly. So that it does not become liquid, add a little salt and flour, keeping the basic proportions.

Do all the primary colors one by one.

Try to achieve bright, saturated and not very light tones as a result. Additional colors can be obtained by mixing primary. Warm red gives very nice pure colors when mixed with yellow, and adding pink to blue produces various shades of purple. To get a dark brown color, you can add cocoa powder and some orange dough to the dark purple dough. Beautiful combinations are obtained by mixing green dough with blue or yellow.

If, when starting work, you know in advance what colors you will need, prepare them immediately in the right quantity; but most often additional shades are created in the process of work - in small portions.

Advice. You can give an unusual color and a pleasant smell to your dough (which will make the work much more pleasant) if you add some spices (or any of them) to it: nutmeg, cumin, paprika, gray and black pepper, cinnamon, curry.

Salt glazing. With the help of this technique, the product will sparkle with iridescent shades in beige and brown tones. During the last hour of firing, keep the product in the oven at a temperature of 150 degrees and grease it repeatedly with a brush dipped in salt water. If you want the product to be more browned, increase the temperature to 200 degrees and glaze with salt when the product has acquired the desired shade of brown. Note. Since the "salt glaze" is formed by salt crystals, products treated in this way can not be varnished.

White color.
The product will remain white after air drying or after drying in the oven if the firing temperature did not exceed 125 degrees.

Baking effect. Products will look like yeast dough buns if, in the last hour of baking in an oven at a temperature of 150 degrees, first apply “salt glaze” on them, and then brush them with a mixture of milk and water or a mixture of egg yolk and water with a brush. If the temperature is raised to 200 degrees, the brown color will be darker.

Brown color. Lubricate the products in the last hour of drying at a temperature of 150 degrees with a brush with beetroot syrup diluted with water.

You can find almost all appliances in your own kitchen, and if you need to purchase something extra, the costs will not be too high.

A small rolling pin, a baking sheet, a jar of water, a brush for wetting the dough, a strainer, a garlic squeezer, dough cutters, foil, a small knife and stacks - you will need all this in the process. Always at hand should also be a cup of flour and a board for rolling out the dough and, finally, a small saucepan with water and a towel, because in the process of work you often have to wash your hands and clean the tools from stuck dough.

The textured pattern is applied to the blanks using various dies. As such devices, as a rule, everything that is at hand is used, the main thing is that the drawing is sufficiently embossed. Gradually, you will accumulate a lot of a wide variety of items that leave all kinds of prints on the test: toothpicks and combs, embossed buttons and a tailor's wheel for translating patterns, nozzles for a pastry syringe, etc.

The article uses materials from the publication: Irina Khananova “Salt Dough”, 2006. To fully familiarize yourself with the materials of the book, we advise you to purchase it from distributors or the publisher.

Let's look at how to use household items to make unusual dough crafts. Processing salt dough with household items often has a spectacular effect. For example, with a comb, you can apply an openwork pattern to the dough, and with the help of various unpretentious gizmos, the surface of the product can be made embossed.
Garlic squeezer. If you use a garlic press, the dough will turn into spaghetti-shaped curls. From them you can make hair, wool and other decorative details for models.

Nozzles for cooking syringe. If you press nozzles for a culinary syringe into the dough, you get decorative patterns from circles, stars and hearts.

tea strainer. From the dough passed through a tea strainer, the finest “vermicelli” is obtained if very finely ground salt was used when kneading the dough.

Comb. A comb on the dough can print a ribbed longitudinal pattern by pressing the edges of its cloves into the dough. The tips of the sharp teeth of the comb make a pattern of dots.

PRINTS ON THE TEST. Relief indentations can be made by pressing beautiful buttons, ears, herbs into the dough. From buttons with a beautiful embossed pattern, you can make original prints. To do this, take a wooden dowel and glue it to the button with universal glue. If there is a loop on the back of the button, drill a hole in the dowel for it. If the button has holes, then fill them with glue at the junction of the button and the dowel.

Can do special roller, on which you will pre-cut a decorative pattern, and then print it on the test. To press blades of grass, ears of corn, flowers into the dough, lightly press them against the dough with your fingers. Then carefully roll them with a roller. Use tweezers or hands to remove printed objects.

CONVEXED RELIEFS. If you press the dough into a wooden model or a mold with a recess, you will get convex reliefs. To make the contours of the relief more clear, when preparing the dough, use fine salt. First lightly flour the mold with a brush, and then press the dough firmly into it. Take the dough out of the mold very carefully.

You can, on the contrary, press the dough with a mold and achieve the same effect. This method is easier. Roll out the dough to a thickness of 1 cm, firmly press the mold into it, after sprinkling it with flour, and then carefully remove the mold. Trim the edges with a sharp knife. Rinse the mold with water and a soft brush. Dry the product at room temperature, but not on the battery.

All kinds of metal forms can be used if the drawings on them are not too deep.
ADVICE.
You can make your own plaster molds. They will serve you for a very long time.

To master the basic modeling techniques, you can practice on a small piece of dough.
The most important thing is to prevent the appearance of wrinkles and cracks on the outside of the product.
The surface should be even and smooth, because when varnishing the finished composition, even a small crack will become bright and spoil the look of the whole work.
In order for work with salt dough to be a pleasure, and crafts to be of good quality, it is necessary to follow a certain order of work.

1. Before sculpting, cover a baking sheet with foil. In order for the foil to hold well and not slide over the baking sheet, it must first be moistened with water using a wet cloth, and after applying the foil, remove excess liquid. For this, a ruler, a comb or a special spatula are suitable.
2. Carefully move the edge of the ruler along the foil, expelling water and air from under it so that the surface becomes absolutely even.

If you have prepared a frame for your future product in advance, then make markings on the foil, outlining the inner perimeter of the frame with a ballpoint pen and sketching the intended picture. Only after that, start work so that it is possible to adjust the dimensions of the composition being made.

Advice: Do not take the whole dough out of the refrigerator at once. Take a small piece first, and as needed, get the next small portion. It is easier to mold from cool dough, it holds its shape well, does not float and sticks to hands less.
For modeling, it is most convenient to use an inverted baking sheet with low sides.

Attention!
Usually the foil has two sides: shiny and matte. When working on a shiny surface, the eyes get tired very quickly, so the matte side should be working.

Advice. Try to sculpt or cut the product immediately on the baking sheet, while the reverse side of the product remains flat and there is no damage when transferring it to the place of drying and firing.

There are several ways that you will get a finished puff pastry product that will delight you, your children and friends.

Drying outdoors at room temperature.
Remember: the thicker the product, the more time it will take.

In the oven (gas or electric stove).
Dry the craft first in the open air (2-3 days), then in the oven at a temperature of 50 degrees, gradually raising the temperature, but not higher than 150 degrees. At too high a temperature, the product may swell, sometimes even cracks appear. Swollen crafts cannot be fixed, and cracks are easy to cover up. To do this, dilute a little PVA glue, mix well and apply this mass to the crack, then rub this mixture.

Drying time in the electric stove oven:
1 hour - at 50 degrees,
1-2 hours at 75 degrees,
1 hour - at 100 - 125 degrees,
0.5 hours - at 150 degrees.

Advice.
Cover a baking sheet with food foil, put salted dough figures on it and place in the oven to dry. To check. Whether the figures have dried out well, you need to tap them with your finger. If the sound is muffled, then you still need to dry it, and if it is sonorous, then it means that the dough has dried out.

On the heating battery.

This method is convenient to use in winter, when the central heating radiators are well heated. Put the craft on foil or cloth and leave it on the battery until it dries completely.

To keep the crafts well, after they are dried and painted, cover them with a transparent liquid varnish. This will reliably protect them from moisture. If you don't like mirror shine, then use a matte varnish.
