The best cafes in Prague. Cheap restaurants in Prague

Among connoisseurs, Prague is considered the beer capital of the world. It is impossible to visit here and not appreciate the merits of a popular drink. It is everywhere, almost everyone drinks it, at any time, in any quantity, without fear of the pangs of a “hangover”.

A large army of fans has long established the fact that the head never hurts from beer from Czech producers.

The Czechs opened the first brewery in 1087. And now, for almost a thousand years, this drink has been the personification of a calm and measured life in great abundance. Saint Wenceslas is considered the patron saint of brewers, it was he who was addressed with prayer and blessing when opening a new variety or production. The 13th-15th centuries were the most difficult in the history of national brewing. It was so popular that a political decision was made at the state level: the factories should be at least a mile apart from each other. Violation of this decree was quickly punished, and inept brewers were severely punished. Producers regularly tasted the products of competitors, and if the drink did not satisfy their partial taste, it was spilled on the square, and its “author” was beaten with rods. Over the past centuries, beer has not ceased to be a symbol of the country, in the capital there are bars and restaurants on every corner. Their number is so great that a guide to the most famous pubs in Prague will not interfere not only with an inexperienced person, but also with an experienced traveler. So let's call the list-ranking

8 best beer bars and restaurants in Prague

The halls of this restaurant have "speaking" names: "Liver sausage", "Suitcase", "Big" and others. Naturally, in addition to beer, you can taste amazing dishes of Czech cuisine here. Luciano Pavarotti did not pass by the opportunity to drink Pilsen beer. Thanks to the favorable attention of famous people, places are better to book. They say that even the President of the Czech Republic can be met here at a long table with a mug of Pilsner. When you come here, you must definitely order a mug of Plzeň urkwell. It is gaining more and more popularity, and the owners of the brewery care about the diversity of the assortment and constantly surprise guests with new products. The most unusual taste of beer kavove pivo, as well as beer-champagne pivny sekt. The only drawback is that empty seats appear after 22:00, when the inhabitants of Prague had dinner.

Restaurant-beer house "At the Maecenas" (U Mecenase)

For a long time the restaurant "At the Maecenas" was the privilege of the elite. Tycho Brahe, Princess Diana, Alexander Dubcek, Willy Brandt, high-ranking officials of Czechoslovakia and Germany have been here. Today, everyone can visit this institution. Service brought to breathtaking perfection. The waiters will definitely offer a bittersweet Budweiser. It has been known since the time of Emperor Ferdinand I, today it occupies a worthy place in the Guinness Book of Records. This malt drink has the highest alcohol content, although it has a sweet, spicy flavor.

They drink it always and everywhere in large quantities - and this is natural, because the beer in local bars is one of the most delicious in the world. As fans of beer have noticed, Czech producers have learned how to prepare it in such a way that even if you drink decently in the evening, the next morning your head does not hurt at all. Millions of tourists from all over the world flock to the capital of the Czech Republic not only to look at the numerous sights, but also to taste this divine drink.

So, which of the many drinking establishments in the Czech capital should be visited first of all when traveling to Prague? We bring to your attention the TOP-5 restaurants in Prague.

Stoker (Výtopna)

The Kochegarka restaurant opened on Wenceslas Square not so long ago, but has already earned the love of not only tourists, but also local residents thanks to an unusual way of delivering beer from the bartender to the visitor. This restaurant is completely dedicated to the railway theme, and is a large hall with several dozen tables, in which a huge electric children's railway has been laid. There is everything that is inherent in the railway, only in miniature: stations and substations. Bridges, spans, interchanges and dead ends.

When a visitor orders beer and snacks, the waiter brings him food, but beer and drinks are brought in trailer cars by small steam locomotives and electric locomotives, which soon return to a small half-station at your table for empty glasses. Children are especially delighted with such service.

Address: Vaclavske nam. 56

At Fleck (U Fleku)

True beer connoisseurs simply must visit this restaurant. After all, the institution "At Fleck" is not just a beer restaurant, but a real brewery. The brewery was opened in the 15th century, and it still brews delicious beer. All halls in the restaurant have their own original name: "Suitcase", "Liver Sausage", etc. original beers will complement the dishes of Czech cuisine offered to visitors of the institution. A special atmosphere is created by an orchestra playing in the garden, as well as an “antique” interior. In general, if you want, for a low price, not only to eat and enjoy the taste of beer, but also to go back a couple of centuries, feel free to go to the restaurant "At Fleck".

At the Chalice (U Kalicha)

The hero of the immortal work of Yaroslav Hasek, the brave soldier Schweik, has long turned from a simple national hero into nonsense. In the historical center of Prague, you will find a dozen restaurants "At Schweik", and the owner of each of them will assure you that this institution is mentioned in the book of Jaroslav Hasek. However, among them, only one was actually mentioned in the novel - the bar "At the Chalice". The phrase from the book "The Adventures of the Good Soldier Schweik" sounds like this: - "Meet me at six o'clock in the evening after the war in the beer house" At the Chalice ".

The atmosphere of the restaurant will completely immerse you in the times of the beginning of the last century. Antique furniture, a century-old working jukebox, musicians dressed as World War I soldiers.

The prices in this institution are not small, however, this stops tourists. Toward evening, crowds of guests from around the world gather here.

Address: Praha 2, Na bojisti 14

At the Bears (U Medvídků)

If you are a lover of noisy, where a large number of visitors drink, walk and have fun, then you have a direct path to the restaurant "At the Bears". This is also a pub with history, it was opened back in 1466. In the last century, the institution was converted into a cabaret, by the way, at that time the first in Prague. At that time it was the largest hall in the entire Czech capital. It is difficult to calculate how many visitors and tourists from all over the world have vacationed here since the opening. It is clear that this place is loved not only by visitors, but also by the Czechs themselves, who are happy to come here to relax from daily worries and chat.

Address: Praha 1, Na Perstyne 7

Pub

The Pub is a chain of beer restaurants. Visitors to another great beer attraction. Arriving at this establishment, you will see that each table is equipped with its own stand with an individual tap, from which you can fill your own glass. Residents of Moscow and guests of the Russian capital could observe this in the network of Moscow restaurants "Zapravochnaya". However, the owners did not stop there and went further. There are scoreboards around the perimeter of the hall, which show how many glasses you have drunk, this information is duplicated on all screens located in the hall. Further, statistics are shown for all The Pub bars in the Czech Republic. Competitive excitement is growing, which further increases the fun.

Prague is above all a city of beautiful views. Lithospheric plates and time gave the area in which the capital of the Czech Republic is located an incredible relief. Hills expand the city, make its space voluminous. Therefore, locals like to gather in the higher places and enjoy the view of the red roofs and sharp peaks of the towers. There are really a lot of such places: for example, Petřín Hill, from where St. Vitus Cathedral pierces the sky, and a small copy of the Eiffel Tower rises nearby. But the main place for contemplating sunsets is the slope in the Riegrovy Sady. This is a park where people come to drink beer or wine, walk each other or their beloved dog and, of course, admire the panorama for the thousandth time. There are grocery stores on the approaches to the park, and in the gardens themselves there is a bar and a beer yard. Be sure to bring a blanket with you.

Bar U Trojského kone

Vodacka 1

"At the Troy Horse" (not to be confused with Trojan) is a bar, a gallery, an open space for creativity, a theater, a cinema and a meeting place for nice people. All this is outdoors. Located on the banks of the Vltava in the Troja area, not far from the Prague Zoo (where, by the way, local residents buy subscriptions for a year to visit polar bears, elephants and other inhabitants several times a month). Remember the name "Troy Horse" - and you will definitely not be mistaken when you look for it: only a blind man will miss a wooden horse ten meters high. On the spot you can order homemade lemonade, beer, wine or something stronger to relax after a walk. If you stay too long, ask the owner of the establishment to call you a taxi, since getting to the center is not so close. Do not be too lazy to look at how athletes train nearby on the river: there is a corridor of obstacles that artificially creates a mountain current for kayakers.

Restaurant La Casa

Kostnicke namesti 635/3

Czech cuisine stands on three pillars: beer, dumplings, pork. If you eat this set every day several times, there is a high probability of getting a volvulus. It is no wonder that the Czechs themselves have long begun to move away from their traditional dishes towards a simpler and lighter cuisine. There are two directions in this trend: Italian cuisine and burgers. Let's talk about the first. It's hard to believe, but in the Czech Republic you can also try delicious food made from Italian products according to Italian recipes. Therefore, if the traditional tourist options are no longer climbing, feel free to go to the La Casa restaurant for a Mediterranean dinner in a cozy atmosphere. On weekdays, the institution is especially popular with office workers who come there for lunch. (usually the price of a soup + second set does not exceed 150 kroons).

Cinema Výletní kino Smíchov

Hořejší nábřeží 1126, P-5 Smíchov

There are a lot of theater venues and cinemas in Prague. You can watch a play or a movie anywhere in the city. There are halls, tickets for which you need to buy a few months in advance. In warm weather, open-air cinemas open. The most popular among these is Výletní kino Smíchov. Its viewers watch films on the banks of the Vltava overlooking the famous Prague gingerbread houses. Shows are in English. On weekends, it's best to arrive early to buy tickets, have a few beers at a local bar and enjoy the panorama.

Embankment Naplavka

Naplavka

There is no sea in the Czech Republic, so the inhabitants of Prague compensated for the atmosphere of the seaside embankment with the Naplavka space near the Vltava. This is a favorite place for local youth. On a kilometer stretch, concert venues and bars, barges and ships are open, in which they dance and dine. For those who walk until morning on Friday, a farmers' market opens on Saturday, where you can recharge with vitamins from Czech plantations. From October to April, a sauna is open on one of the ships. The steam there is not the strongest and there are no brooms, but the view of the city from the glass steam room is mesmerizing. Be prepared for the fact that in the Czech Republic, men and women bathe in the same room. Most often they are naked.

Market Farmářský trh Jiřího z Poděbrad

Jiriho z Poděbrad, 1

Fashion for a healthy diet, vegetarianism and raw food is gaining momentum in the Czech Republic. More and more shops, bakeries and cafes are opening in Prague, where only local products are used. Farmers' markets operating in different parts of the city are very popular. The nearest to the center is located on the square Jiřího z Poděbrad. Fresh produce from the area arrives every Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday by 8 am. It is not necessary to come to the opening - closer to ten o'clock you can not only buy vegetables, fish, sausages, cheeses and pastries, but also try something from street food, drink beer from an unknown brewery and taste wine from Moravian cellars. The average check for such a dinner for two will be 200–400 kroons.

Bar Pivni Klub 300

Jireckova 1015/15

In Prague, it is very easy to distinguish between a tourist place and one where locals frequent. This difference lies in two main parameters: the distance from the attraction and the availability of menus in different languages. The Pivní Klub 300 bar has a menu in Czech, so tourists are not welcome here in the first place. Praguers come here to try new beers and just meet up with old friends. The owner of the institution, who is also a bartender, is always friendly and will gladly tell you in detail about each type of beer that is in the range. For an appetizer, try nakládaný hermelín marinated cheese.

Průhonice Park

252 43 Průhonice

Traffic jams are not about Prague. In this city, road communication is thought out with a bang. The public transport network covers the entire city, so many motorists use the red trams that have been famous since Soviet times. But on Friday evening, getting from the center to a remote area becomes more difficult. After work, locals load bicycles, roller skates, skis or snowboards into cars and leave the city. Those who cannot afford two days of rest go on a day tour. The closest place for a day trip is Pruhonice Park, located just outside the city limits. Entrance fee - symbolic 60 crowns for nature, fresh air and a beautiful castle. The park has several routes for walking from 1–2 to 10 kilometers.

Cross Club

Plynárni 1096/23 170 00

The Cross Club is where impressive underground parties take place. The owner and his team are literally turned on steampunk, which is reflected in the cosmic interior of the establishment they invented. This is not the place where you can go with a girl in search of romance - people go here to sweat. All local hardcore and punk fans know by heart the schedule of concerts and parties. But even those who are far from these directions drop into the Cross Club just to look at what is happening.

Cabaret Darling

Prague is often called the second Amsterdam not at all for its similar architecture and water channels, but for its very free morals in the field of adult entertainment. In the evening on Wenceslas Square there are a lot of dark-skinned guys who do not need to be scared: they only invite passers-by to look at the light in the club. But if the locals decide to go somewhere, they go to Darling. This Prague "Moulin Rouge" is known for spectacular shows, angelic beauty of dancers and not the most affordable prices for drinks - you need to carefully look at the menu before making an order. The street where the club is located has been famous for many years for its nightlife, where Praguers go out every night.

You will not believe it, but we really went around the best beer Prague, every single one! It was difficult, but what can not be done for the sake of dear readers. Beer in the Czech Republic is excellent and inexpensive, and also not very strong, so even the best beer restaurants in Prague can be visited at least every day without the risk of getting drunk and going broke. We did just that and today we present you the TOP 10 beer houses in Prague, which includes both large restaurants and small, but atmospheric bars. Sit down comfortably, the article turned out to be long and sincere, like a conversation in a Prague pub over a glass of Pilsen.

Oh, it's not an easy job to write an article after the Behemoth's pub!

How was this ranking made?

It's no secret that the Internet is full of ratings of the best beer houses in Prague even without us. And even more so, it's no secret that many of them (though not all) are carbon-copied based on reviews and other articles. And what did we do? We have previously studied the ratings of "The Best Beer in Prague" in Russian, English and Czech and compiled our own list of a dozen establishments that most often win prizes or simply receive excellent reviews from visitors. Then we took our list and (hic!) went around all these beer houses with a camera and a notepad so as not to forget anything. We were in Prague more than once or twice, there was plenty of time, so we didn’t run from one pub to another, but allocated a full evening for each of them. Wherein we tried to evaluate not only the taste, but also the atmosphere in these establishments. That's how our rating "Best beer Prague" was born by itself. So let's drink to the fact that our list of the TOP 10 beer houses in Prague will help you enjoy an incomparable Czech beer without a headache! You still have to go to the pub tomorrow. And the day after tomorrow too.

P.S.: we will not give prices in beer houses in Prague, because the cost may change, and our rating "Best beer in Prague" is eternal. Instead, after describing each pub, we will provide a link to its official website, where you can always find out the current prices for beer and food. For those establishments that have not yet got hold of the site, we will give a photo of the menu.

We also note that we liked absolutely all the establishments that were included in our rating "The Best Beer in Prague", and all of them are worthy of your attention. It was very difficult to sort them out. We remind you that everything in this world is subjective and your rating of the best beer restaurants and bars in Prague may be completely different.

And of course, Prague would not be Prague if there were no excursions with a "beer" bias in it. Therefore, you can test the best beer in Prague not only on your own with the help of our guide, but also on excursions in the company of a professional drunk guide:

The best beer in Prague: the most objective rating from Uehali.com

10th place: U Kalicha ("At the Chalice")

Perhaps the two most famous beer houses in Prague are "At the Golden Tiger" and "At the Chalice". In the first, Vaclav Havel and Bill Clinton drank beer, in the second - the good soldier Schweik himself. However, the website of the restaurant honestly says that Schweik was more interested not in the pub, but in the brothel located around the corner (by the way, the red lights of this institution opened up a picturesque view from the windows of one of the apartments that we rented in Prague). After talking with the ladies, Schweik (or whoever was his prototype) looked at the Chalice to restore his strength. That's why beer "At the Chalice" is often called - "At Schweik", and they simply transliterate from Latin to Cyrillic - “At Kalich”. Which is not so far from the truth, given the not-quite-ideal state of health of the brave soldier.

But you won't be fed up with legends. As for the beer itself, it is quite decent here, but not the best of what we drank in Prague. Having doubted our taste, we took a second mug each - this time a light one - again we were not impressed and went to the good old and trusted Fleck. Even the menu in Russian did not deter us.

Oh yes, the fried cheese "U Kalich" is prepared simply incomparably. But somehow we didn’t come for cheese.

You may ask: why then did we include this place in our rating of "Best beer Prague to visit?" I think it's worth going to U Chasha beer, and not just for beer. Still, this is not just a restaurant, but a real attraction with a literary bias.

  • Prices in the restaurant "At the Chalice"(menu in Russian)
  • (our review)

On the facade of the restaurant, two signs flaunt at once: “At the Chalice” and “At the Schweik”.

At the entrance to the institution you are met by the good soldier Schweik himself.

The best beer Prague: most of all in the beer "U Chasha" we liked fried cheese and massive chandeliers under the ceiling.

Beer "U Schweik" in Prague is decorated with quotes from Yaroslav Hasek and other smart people.

9th place: Lokál U Bílé kuželky ("At the white pin")

And immediately a short summary of the "White Skittle". Beer is excellent. The atmosphere is missing. Therefore, only ninth place.

This famous Lesser Town pub is often referred to simply as "Lokal", which, if desired, can be translated as "Local pub" or "Pub where locals go." It is located in a beautiful (are there others in Prague?) side street a couple of hundred meters from the Charles Bridge. The atmosphere here, I would say, is not quite familiar to beer houses in Prague and rather resembles a neat dining room. Smooth white walls hung with diplomas, a pyramid of clean mugs on the bar, photographs and paintings depicting scenes from the life of the restaurant, valiant knights and, for some reason, Michael Jackson create an overly strict atmosphere that does not allow you to relax before the third mug.

But if you came here not to grumble about the interior, like some, but to enjoy the beer, you will definitely like it. Light Pilsner Urquell and dark Kozel are served here., as well as useless something marked non alcoholic. There is no menu in Russian and the staff does not speak Russian, but Kozel - he is Kozel, most importantly, put the accent correctly.

A small Russian-Czech dictionary. Delicious beer - Plzenske pivo. Tasteless beer - Klinske pivo.

Local "At the White Skittle" is located in the same building as the hotel of the same name. Perhaps that is why it is too academic for a Prague pub.

8th place: Novoměstský pivovar ("Novomestsk brewer")

Do not order pork knuckle (boar knee) at Novomestsky brewery! Maybe everything has changed here since our visit, but we categorically did not like the traditional Czech snack here. And this despite the fact that we paid a visit to the Novomestsky brewer even before we visited Ferdinand and U Fleck, where they prepare the best shank in the world.

Otherwise, our reviews about this beer house are only the most positive. Delicious unfiltered beer made from Žatec hops, interesting surroundings of a real brewhouse, ten beautifully decorated halls, convenient location near Wenceslas and Charles Square. And generally speaking, Novomestsky Pivovar is not just a restaurant, but a small beer factory, and underground (in a good sense of the word): the local halls and workshops go three floors underground. Here you can not only have a drink and a snack, but also take a tour of a real Czech brewery - of course, with a tasting. Options and prices of excursions, as well as the menu - on the official website.

7th place: U Zlatého Tygra ("At the Golden Tiger")

At the Golden Tiger is the legendary Prague beer house, located exactly halfway between the Old Town Square and the Charles Bridge. It opens at 15:00, we were only a minute late for the opening, but by that time the pub was already filled to capacity. Only two places remained free, which we took. But what two places! However, more on that later.

"At the Golden Tiger" - a purebred Prague pub, come here - not only for the incomparable Pilsen nectar, but also for the unique atmosphere. There is nothing to breathe and nowhere to sit down, because of the noise screen you need to talk three tones higher than usual, and the density of people of all nationalities and skin colors is three times higher than on the Charles Bridge on a July evening. And for all this hell - at most two waiters and a virtuoso bartender of the eightieth level, with all their skill, they still do not have time to serve everyone on time, and therefore they are angry as hell. You already like it, don't you?

And when we were leaving the Golden Tiger, I inadvertently looked back and then I was pierced by lightning: I came to the pub last, and I got the most thieves place?! An overly politicized Russian tourist would have strangled himself to sit in my chair for even a minute! It turned out that I was laughing at the Czechs eating raw minced meat in the same place where in 1994, Czech President Vaclav Havel drank beer with US President Bill Clinton! Then the writer Bohumil Hrabal, who accidentally happened to be here, sat down with them, and they drank more and more ... In general, the beer house "At the Golden Tiger" is known not only for its beer, but also for the fact that once two famous politicians were put behind the collar, and one famous writer did it practically every day.

  • Prices for beer and food "At the Golden Tiger"(in English)

Beer "At the Golden Tiger" lurked on such a narrow and beautiful street that we barely inserted the logo of our site without damaging the landscape.

The best beer houses in Prague are not only first-class beer, but also first-class bartenders. At the tap in the Golden Tiger there is an experienced beer master, but even he does not always cope with such an influx of visitors.

See the photo on the wall? This is Clinton shaking hands with Hrabal, in the middle - Havel. Do you see the empty chairs under the photo? We just sat on them. You can be jealous, but we wouldn't.

But in this photo, friends, a really cool guy. When a football player hits a penalty with a “parachute” in the center of the goal, this is called a Panenka kick. It was first performed by midfielder of the Czechoslovak national team Antonin Panenka, whose photo hangs on the wall. This blow brought his team the European "gold" in 1976.

6th place: U Hrocha ("At the Behemoth")

Yes, "Behemoth" does not have a centuries-old history. Yes, this is not a restaurant, but rather a pub or a small and not to say cozy cafe for several tables. Yes, only one type of beer is served here (the incomparable Pilsner Urquell for 40 crowns per mug). Yes, the walls here are shabby and in places painted with all sorts of nonsense. And yes, it's noisy and there's nowhere to sit. But it's great here!

There is such a hackneyed expression "an atmosphere that cannot be expressed in words." So we will not even try to convey it. Just come to the bar "At the Behemoth" ("At Groh") and you will understand everything yourself. But it is better to come early - as already mentioned, there is not much space here and in the late afternoon there will be no free tables (as well as window sills and chairs at the bar counter). Checked. It is believed that the regulars of the brewery "At the Behemoth" are the proletarians of all countries, as well as the Prague intelligentsia and teachers of educational institutions Hradcany and Lesser Country. Therefore, you can even come here just to listen to smart talk about science (it’s forbidden to talk about politics here, as a sign above the bar warns about). And it doesn't matter that you don't understand Czech: it's still nice to be in the company of smart people.

Just don’t lean on the pork knuckle here: Behemoth, as you know, has no waist 🙂 And there is no website either, by the way. The photo of the menu is just below.

Beerhouse "At the Behemoth" hid in a quiet beautiful street not far from Prague Castle.

Members of the sect of hippo worshipers in a religious frenzy.

The menu of the restaurant "At the Behemoth" does not hang on the Internet. It hangs on the wall!

5th place: Polo ("Polo")

Let me start our magnificent five with a small lyrical digression. Sometimes you can come across the opinion that the best pubs in Prague are not located on tourist trails, but are hidden in the nooks and crannies of the working districts of Zizkov and Vinohrady. There are, they say, special pubs in Prague not for tourists, old-timers and connoisseurs go only there, and in the center - consumer goods for naive foreigners. This is not entirely true. The best beer Prague - they are in the center, and on the outskirts, and in world-famous establishments, we have always met more Czechs than tourists. But the beer in almost all restaurants in Prague is excellent, and it is not surprising that locals appreciate cozy restaurants close to home more. Why go to the center and push around in a stuffy crowd, when there is also delicious inexpensive beer nearby, as well as always a free table and a warm company?

Nevertheless, we also have no right to ignore the Zizkov region. Moreover, one of our favorite establishments with the uncomplicated name Polo is located there. After our first trip to Prague, we generally considered it the best restaurant on the planet Earth. Not a single beer map of Prague, not a single guide will direct you to Polo. This is a true pub for the locals, many of whom represent informal Prague youth aged 18 to 80. The speakers play real rock (not pop, like in the Hard Rock Café), and the walls are hung with portraits of legendary musicians who have never been here. But the main thing is that this restaurant serves the most freaky pork ribs in Prague, which are served with outrageously tasty tank beer. On an empty stomach in our family, it is forbidden to remember Polo.

And it was also here that we met with a magical drink, because of which the folk trail to the best beer Prague will never grow. As if it were yesterday, I remember a wonderful moment: plump mugs flavored with fluffy foam appeared before us. After carefully tasting the bright, bitter Pilsner Urquell, we bravely ordered a kilo portion of pork ribs with chili and honey. The weight did not bother us at all: we were sure that the promised kilogram would contain 800 grams of bones without meat. And then they bring us a huge wooden round plate, on which lies half of the pork belly, as if it had just been cut from a pig. Lots of meat, all juicy, appetizing. The ribs were different, some of them (about a quarter) consisted of cartilage - just right for beer. There were two small bowls - with horseradish and mustard - and a side dish in the form of cabbage and red capsicum. One had only to try it, as a real fire blazed in the mouth!

When putting out a peppery fire in the mouth, we especially appreciated the bitterness of the tank beer. Which in those moments was almost not felt. Then they ordered another 0.5 beer and another 0.5. The beer was good, and if we left the Polo drunk, it was only from pleasure.

Many Czechs believe that the best beer Prague should be found in Zizkov. We found one of them - this is an amazing Polo restaurant!

4th place: Ferdinanda ("Ferdinanda")

Ferdinanda is not one, but two beer gardens in Prague. The first is located in the New Place, the second - in the Lesser Country. We began to study the reviews and were surprised to see that the Novomestsk restaurant is more often scolded, while the Lesser Town restaurant is praised. We went there, and did not fail, since it was this institution that took the honorable fourth place in our ranking of "The Best Beer Prague".

Ferdinanda is a very fun place in Mala Strana at the foot of Petrin Hill. It's a nice thing to come down here after a walk to one of them and reward yourself with a portion of fragrant beer, the most delicate shank and a kind of Czech humor. One menu is worth it! Some talking pigs, hungry mice, pot-bellied bastards, scolding the European Union with drunkenness ... But the main thing here is the beer "Seven bullets" (Sedm Kulí), the hallmark of this institution. Here, too, the masters of black humor did their best: that is how many bullets were fired at the unfortunate Archduke Franz Ferdinand in 1914, because of which the First World War broke out. But be that as it may, the dark, slightly bitter beer "Seven Bullets" is simply divine. It is considered almost the most delicious in the whole of the Czech Republic, and it is brewed in the small town of Benešov, next to which was the castle of the murdered Archduke.

In addition to magical beer, Ferdinand serves no less wonderful pork knuckle.

Some walls in the Ferdinand are plastered, others are finished with rough stone, which gives the restaurant a special charm.

3rd place: Pivovarsky dům("Pivovarskiy Dom")

This aristocratic establishment, a stone's throw from Charles Square, opened almost yesterday - in 1998 - but has already gained an excellent reputation among locals and tourists. The restaurant has a brewery that creates several types of exclusive and delicious beer, from classic light and dark to exotic like cherry, nettle and even banana. You can try all this pampering at once by ordering a “beer carousel” - they will bring you a wooden turntable, where small glasses with different types of beer are inserted. We liked nettle the most. And you?

The Brewery House is not just a brewery, but a real restaurant in the best sense of the word. They don’t smoke or yell here, the most exquisite dishes of Czech cuisine are excellently prepared here, here the waiters speak Russian, people come here with families and children. And there is also a very beautiful interior, exquisitely decorated with old rubbish, and in the middle of the hall there are beer cauldrons in which a delicious drink is prepared. By the way, one of the varieties is called Russian Imperial Stout - a clear nod to our tourists, who seem to be the most here.

2nd place: U Fleků ("At Flek")

The Prague Brasserie U Fleku is a real Hofbräuhaus with a Czech accent. It is a large restaurant with large halls, large tables, large portions and large trays filled to the brim with beer mugs. With these trays, the waiters walk around the hall, and as soon as you empty your mug, they immediately throw in a new one. Only one kind of beer is served here, but what kind! Black as the southern night, rich as mercury in the laboratory of a Prague alchemist, delicious as... Like beer in the U Fleku restaurant! The local brewers are proud of this divine caramel flavored drink and have kept its recipe a closely guarded secret for centuries. By the way, Beer "U Fleku" is considered the oldest in Prague, it opened already in 1499!

To make your trip to the pub "At Fleck" into a real holiday, an accordionist entertains guests in each hall. A cheerful musician walks from table to table, listens to conversations and, having caught the notes of a familiar language, hurries to please the guests with his native melody. We were entertained by a man with an accordion with “Moscow Nights” (how did he know where we were registered?) and “Katyusha”, for the English-speaking guests Yesterday struck and, it seems, something from the early Marilyn Manson. The accordionist accepts tips with joyful surprise, as if for the first time in his life, further igniting the cauldron of universal fun.

“God gave us beer and pork knuckle, and the devil gave us compote and vegetarianism!” The advice of a wise monk to tourists, depicted on the wall of the U Fleku brewery.

1st place: Zlý časy ("Hard Times")

Yes, we are not original and we are not afraid of it. Foreign tourists and Prague old-timers, academics and janitors, sophisticated gourmets and bitter drinkers - many of them agree that the "Evil Hours" is the best pub in Prague. We wanted to stand out and put something more original in the “Best Prague beer” rating… But as soon as we came here, we immediately understood everything. Forgive me, Fleck, and you too, Ferdinand with the Brewery House (and you, Kalich, you don't have to forgive, we don't care). You are beautiful, no doubt, but you can’t argue against the facts: the best pub in this part of the Galaxy is hiding in the non-tourist area of Prague 4, in a clumsy building with crumbling plaster under a strange sign in the form of a stupid clock.

Pretty bad hours, I must say. And the situation here to match. Waitresses do not flutter here and musicians do not play. Here you can grimly throw yourself with grief and cheerfully celebrate the happiest event in life. "Evil Clock" is a perfect symbiosis of a folksy pub and a good restaurant, where every detail says one thing: people came here to drink beer. Ah yes, the beer. By my reckoning, Hard Times has about a million (give or take) beers. There is here both draft, and bottled, and local, and foreign from German broyhouses, Belgian monasteries, and in general from all over the world. But the main pride of "Evil Hours" - carefully selected exclusive masterpieces from small breweries in the Czech Republic. We took a variety of beers here - light, dark, red, wheat, some other - and each time we were terribly satisfied. Sorry, we will not advise anything, because the assortment here changes very often. Just come to the best pub in Prague, feel free to order any beer and enjoy. And if you don't like it, we'll refund your money!

This building is clearly going through hard times.

11 cafes in Prague worth visiting

1. Super Tramp Coffee (Opatovická 160/18, Prague 1)
It is located in the center of Prague, in the courtyard of one of the Czech universities. On weekdays, you can get there from two sides: from the side of Národní třidy or from the other side of the Spalena passage. On weekends - only through the second entrance. The sweetest staff, homemade biscuits with pecans or salt, as well as muffins, goat cheese bruschettas and other homemade delicious snacks are offered for coffee.

The territory is also something special. Yes, it's small, but it's so cool there! There are several tables inside, and outside there is a garden with tables and light bulbs above them. Imagine how cozy it is on a warm summer day in the evening to the music coming from the gramophone! In addition to coffee, you can also take delicious wine, cider and beer.

2. Cafe-Cafe (Rytiřská 10, Praha 1-Staré Město)
Located in the very center of Prague. In addition to drinks, there is a small but delicious menu, for example, risotto with tiger prawns in a spicy sweet sauce, just amazing!
Cafe-cafe is a meeting place for the Prague "elite", but despite all the glamor and mood of this place, the prices are reasonable and average for Prague. The café has a Parisian feel to it, thanks to the marble round tables and bohemian interior.

3. Café Louvre (Národní 22, 110 00 Praha 1)
Yes, the place is very popular among tourists, but this is understandable: thanks to its history and famous personalities who visited the cafe in their time. I am a fan of breakfast and coffee, so there is little I can advise for lunch and dinner. So, breakfasts in the Louvre for every taste. Very tasty and very atmospheric!

4. Café Amandine (Na Moráni 1689/17, 120 00 Praha 2 - Nové Město)
There is a lot of Paris in Prague: a huge number of French bakeries and cafes. Cafe Amandine serves delicious breakfasts and good coffee. The plates are large, the tables are round and the croissants melt in your mouth - perfect for a weekend morning! Located in the center near Karlovo náměstí.

5. I need Coffee! (Na Morani 1958/7, Praha 2)
A small cafe with a wonderful interior and delicious coffee. It is also located near Karlovo náměstí. In the morning, a small selection of breakfasts, as well as sweet and savory snacks. A great place to sit alone or with a four-legged friend, drink coffee and read a book.

6. Twenty7 and Phill's corner (Přístavní 339/27, Praha 7-Holešovice)
Two cafes of the same owner with a very similar menu and interior are almost on the same street. For breakfast, both places are perfect, the coffee is wonderful, the interior is no frills and very homey and cozy. In order to get there, you need to choose one of the trams and drive a little away from the center. Prices are very reasonable for both food and coffee.

7. Farm Letna (M. Horakové 390/49, Prague 7)
Farm Letna is such a trendy place with a cozy interior where there is nothing superfluous. The coffee is excellent, and the breakfasts are pancakes of various kinds, French toast, all served with delicious syrups and fresh fruit, and there is much more on the menu. Prices are slightly above average.

8. Bistro proti proudu (Brezinova 22/471, Praha 8)
This bistro differs from the rest with its original menu. The staff is so friendly and sweet that anyone will spread a smile from communicating with them. The coffee is excellent, the breakfasts are interesting and tasty.

9. Mistral cafe (Valentinská 11, Praha 1-Staré Město)
One of those places that have been dear to you for many years. The cafe is very bright and full of greenery, and in the second room, where I advise you to take a table, there are huge windows overlooking the garden. Everything is delicious there - both food and drinks. It is located right at the exit of the Staroměstská metro station, and although it is the very center, there are no more tourists there than Czechs.

10. Home kitchen (Kozí 916/5, Praha 1, Jankovcova 1596/14a, Praha 7, Jungmannova 8, Praha 1, Nádvoří Anděl’s City, Radlická 3185/ 1B, Praha 5)
Recently, they started from one place at Praha 7, and now they already have a whole chain of cafes. It's more of a bistro than a cafe that also serves lunches and dinners. The place is unusual, warm, bright. The main concept of the Home kitchen is probably as much wood as possible in the interior and huge windows. Everything is prepared from the best products, everything is homemade, which is why the prices are above average.

11. Kavárna co hledá jméno (Stroupežnického 493/10, Praha 5)
The owners have created three absolutely chic properties from old and abandoned buildings, one of them is the cafe in question. The owners have made a stylish and interesting place with their own hands, where you want to return again and again. Everything is thought out to every detail, and even the same toilet room is probably the most popular place for photos on Instagram in the cafe. When someone puts their soul into their favorite business so much, it is immediately felt, and thanks to this, such places become special and loved by many people.
