The combination of dark chocolate with the tart sweetness of caramelized oranges... mmm, this is something incredible! They just melt in your mouth, leaving behind a unique sensation. At this moment, I want to forget about everything around and just enjoy the taste ...

And if you add some spices - cinnamon, cloves, star anise ... you get a completely New Year's dessert, which can also be a wonderful gift for loved ones! The most important thing is that making this dessert at home is not at all difficult - though you need to be patient, because cooking this deliciousness will still take a couple of hours, but there is absolutely no fuss!

Cooking Ingredients:

  • Orange slices - 5-6 pieces;
  • Sugar - 550 g;
  • Vanilla sugar - 10 g;
  • Water - 300 ml;
  • Chocolate - 200-250 g, bitter;
  • Spices - to taste (cinnamon, cloves, star anise, ginger);

Cooking steps:

  1. Oranges are cut into beautiful circles about 5 mm thick.
  2. Dip them in boiling water for 2-3 minutes to get rid of bitterness. We drain the water, and lay the circles on a paper towel, cover with it on top and gently blot to absorb excess moisture.
  3. Then we spread the oranges on the bottom of a deep dish (it is better to take a large diameter so that the oranges fit in fewer layers). In a separate bowl, heat 300 ml of water with brown and vanilla sugar until it dissolves. If using vanilla from the pod, just cut the pod in half, remove the seeds, and send everything together to the syrup. You can also add your favorite spices there - cinnamon, cloves, star anise, ginger and so on.
  4. Pour the orange slices with the resulting syrup. And we begin to cook them exclusively on low heat for about 1.5-2 hours - until the orange peel becomes almost transparent, well soaked in sugar syrup. If the syrup evaporates during the process, don't worry, just add a little more water. But as a result, it practically does not remain. Turn your oranges a couple of times so that they are soaked on all sides. And keep an eye on the ones at the bottom so they don't burn. In general, they do not require close attention - just look occasionally.
  5. We carefully take out the mugs, let the liquid drain a little and put it on a baking sheet lined with cooking foil. We send the baking sheet to the oven to dry our miracle circles a little at a temperature of 90-100ºС, 20-25 minutes is enough. Be careful not to burn the oranges!
  6. Let the oranges cool. By and large, at this moment we have already prepared a full-fledged dessert - oranges in caramel! By themselves, they are very tasty and can not only be eaten with coffee or tea, but also used as a filling for a variety of pastries…
  7. Melt dark chocolate in a water bath or in a microwave oven (you can use both milk and white, but the combination of dark chocolate with sweet orange creates an incredible explosion of taste). We cover the plate, tray or board with cling film so that later there are no problems with scraping oranges from the surface. Dip each slice of orange halfway into the chocolate and place on cling film. By the way, some people prefer to dip oranges completely, you can try this and that.
  8. Leave the circles for a while for the chocolate to harden. The temptation to eat them early is great, but your patience will be rewarded! If you're in a hurry, you can put it in the fridge.
  9. You can store such oranges in a cool, dry place, placing them in a tightly closed jar or container, they will easily lie for a couple of weeks, I haven’t tried it longer - they are always eaten faster. Bon appetit!
