How to determine if they want to fire you soon. The leader began to send orders in writing more and more often.

Ignoring an employee by management or, conversely, increased attention to him may be harbingers of an imminent dismissal. The authorities deprive the employees they want to part with of powers, bonuses, access to the necessary information, and even turn off their computers, recruiters say.

“If a person has become less likely to be called to the authorities, less interested in his work, or stopped doing it altogether, then the company may want to get rid of him,” says Natela Kobulashvili, general director of the Vybor recruitment agency.

Sometimes everything can look exactly the opposite - the requirements for work begin to be excessively overestimated.

“It all depends on the specific company,” explains Lyte Recruitment CEO Nana Matetskaya. - For example, from a person who was not harshly asked before, they suddenly begin to demand too much. It happens that simply impossible tasks are set before him. ”

According to Natela Kobulashvili, a sign that the employee may be going to be fired is that the management forgets about its promises to entrust him with some new tasks. But sometimes it can be associated with a change in the company's plans.

In preparing to get rid of an employee or trying to force him to voluntarily leave, corporate management can take anything from him, from money to a computer.

“For example, an employee supervised four areas, and without explanation, one or two of them are taken away from him,” says Nana Matetskaya. - Can unreasonably deprive of premiums, bonuses, especially where they make up the bulk of the compensation package. Thus, a person can be forced to quit.

According to Yulia Balakina, a partner at the Consort consulting group, information that was previously open to an employee suddenly becomes confidential. Sometimes he is simply turned off the computer, depriving him of the opportunity to work. And although, according to the work book, he is still listed in the organization as required by the Labor Code for two weeks, and at the end he can even be provided with positive recommendations, the dismissal, in fact, occurs instantly.

“This is often done in sales and finance to prevent an employee from passing on commercial information to competitors, especially when there are doubts about his cleanliness,” she says.

Another way to show an employee that he is no longer needed is to establish total control over him.

“They often begin to follow the person they want to get rid of: they note the time of arrival and departure for work, the number of breaks, and so on. Often such an employee is no longer invited to meetings and work meetings. He may find himself in a situation of information blockade,” says Yana Leikina, HR director of the Ankor personnel holding.

According to her, it happens that such an employee is entrusted with a lot of work without the appropriate authority or, conversely, is excluded from the work process, dooming them to forced downtime. In his presence, people fall silent, stop asking questions, do not involve them in collective events within the unit. Such an employee may be infringed in the field of remuneration, bonus payments, and the opportunity to take a vacation at a convenient time.

“There is only one task - to show that the employee is a stranger in relation to the team, the manager, the company as a whole,” adds Yana Leykina.

She notes that the first thing to do in such a situation is "to have the courage to understand that something is wrong."

Natela Kobulashvili advises to play openly.

“You need to go to management, express your concerns, remind the boss of the promises he ignores,” she says. - You can raise the question of whether you are satisfied with your management as a specialist. The main thing is to speak on the fact of what is happening, and not on the basis of assumptions.

“If possible, you should discuss this situation with your stakeholders – a manager, a colleague, an employee of the HR department, a trade union leader, a corporate lawyer,” advises Yana Leykina. - Perhaps, during such a discussion, the employee will receive information that will help correct the actions of both parties and lead to mutual understanding. Another possible result of such interaction is a warning to the employer: the employee is ready for an open dialogue and will not tolerate moral pressure.”

She also notes that civilized escape routes need to be analyzed. If the situation is critical, then you can benefit from it for yourself: additional remuneration upon dismissal, a letter of recommendation, and so on.

“If an employee is resolute and intends to defend his interests in court, he needs the help of a qualified specialist in the field of labor law and confidence not only in his rightness, but also in compliance with the qualifications and performance results of the official job title and job description,” adds Yana Leykina .

Nana Matetskaya also advises asking yourself the question: is it worth staying in the company?

“If a person has become uncomfortable, it makes sense to enter the labor market and consider new proposals,” she argues. An employee who informs management of their desire to leave may receive an offer of a higher salary or even a position in exchange for a promise to stay. Recruiters advise caution in such situations.

“The employee is convinced of his value to the company, they are given a higher salary, new benefits or a new position, but at the same time they begin to actively look for a replacement for him and, when they find one, the person is immediately fired,” Yulia Balakina warns. - This often happens both in our own and in foreign or international corporations. Seeing that the employee is disloyal and looks around, employers prefer to get rid of him.

Employees usually begin to think about changing jobs when the salary is low or there is no career growth. But these are not the only reasons for changing priorities. With the help of experts, 10 signs were identified that indicate that it is time to change something in life.

Sign #1: Always a hard Monday

If you wake up every day with the thought that you don’t want to go to work, look for another reason not to go to the office, or are systematically late, then you should consider whether you need to force yourself to do what is so unpleasant for you. Evaluate subjective (your personal attitude) and objective factors (atmosphere in the team, with superiors, salary, remoteness of the company from home), and only then make a decision to dismiss.

When you "adjust" the hands of the clock with your eyes and are "low start" already an hour before the end of the working day, then it's time to do something more interesting.

Inna Igolkina, CEO of the training company Timesaver: “If you feel bad at the thought of work, then something is wrong with you and your work. There is such a thing as “psychological burnout”. Even the most beloved work can become hard labor over time. For example, the teacher starts yelling at the students, the doctor hates the patients, the driver is pissed off by pedestrians and passengers, etc.”

Sign #2: Feeling worthless

Those who do not see the point in their work, do not believe that they are useful, but count the days from salary to advance and dream of vacation, are unlikely to feel comfortable in the company. If the position pays well and you have taken out a mortgage, then it may be worth postponing the dismissal. But the lack of motivation and self-importance are sure signs that the time has come to look for another way to make money.

Tehkhi Polonskaya, General Director of the Brusnika marketing agency: “How do you understand that your relationship with work has exhausted itself, and it's time to think about a separate future? You will feel it by the lack of interest. Everything that inspired you, everything that you liked, tasks that seemed interesting - all this will begin to cause boredom and longing. Even the salary and additional bonuses will no longer seem so tempting.”

Sign #3: You all piss me off!

Increased irritability during the working day, constant breakdowns from scratch, gossip, conflicts with colleagues - all this disturbs the psychological balance and makes you refuse to cooperate with the employer. A person can get turned on by little things: one left a mug on the table in the common kitchen, another uses too sugary toilet water, and the third constantly sniffs. If you find yourself increasingly like this, it's time to take a time out. It is time to think about changing activities, and if you are categorically not satisfied with the order and rules in the company, you are not ready to put up with them.

Sign #4: Turtle Shell

Constant isolation of yourself from the team, refusal to contact even those employees with whom you see more than once a day, indifference, formal communication at the “hello-goodbye” level, unwillingness to attend corporate holidays and events - all this indicates that You don't have to go to this job. Find something interesting for yourself, where you will be comfortable in any environment, and the people around you will evoke sympathy.

Elena Lyzlova, obstetrician-gynecologist, PMSMU named after A.I. Sechenov: “The result of a misunderstanding with superiors, a fear of making a mistake, a call to the carpet or humiliation in front of colleagues at a meeting is emotional overstrain, nervous exhaustion, and depression. A person goes into a "turtle shell", hides, closes when danger approaches.

Sign #5: Intellectual Dead End

New knowledge and the opportunity to develop make the work rich, and bring satisfaction and a lot of impressions to a person. If you have not been sent to trainings for a long time, the company does not develop the potential of employees, and weekdays are like two peas in a pod, then think about whether it is worth spending your time here. Try to find the cause of boredom and monotony. Perhaps a conversation with your superiors will allow you to get another position where you will have to train in order to operate effectively.

Sign #6: Too Easy

The feeling that the duties you perform are too simple, you quickly and easily cope with them, and the rest of the time you are trying to keep yourself busy with something - a “symptom” of the need for change. If you feel that you have outgrown yourself as a specialist, and the authorities are in no hurry to promote you, this is a sign that it is time to stop going to work, find another one, or start your own business.

Elena Lyzlova: “A person adapts to new working conditions, companies and positions in three months. At the beginning of a career path, integration into the work process occurs. After this period, labor productivity first increases, and the time allotted for work becomes empty. It becomes too easy to work, efficiency decreases.”

Sign #7: No Career Growth

The lack of career advancement for some employees becomes a blow to self-esteem, others make them complain about low salaries and count money in someone else's pocket, and still drive others into a corner as professionals in their field. Before writing a letter of resignation, it will be useful to evaluate at least a couple of factors. Look at who gets promoted in the company, if there are career opportunities in the organization, or if employees move from position to position, but within the line staff.

Ksenia Mamonova, freelance copywriter: “Work not only to earn money, but also for successful growth. My previous job did not imply career growth. And I was not warned about this at the time of hiring. When I found out about this, I got the impression that they always didn’t tell me something. Then began a constant increase in duties, for the performance of which there were no corresponding surcharges. This state of affairs became very annoying, there was constant stress. At the same time, the work was monotonous, paper-based, and all the time grew in quantity and degree of responsibility. It turned out that I was like a robot: I did a lot of work, but there was no professional development and salary increase. ”

Sign #8: Not the same as before

Look at your old photographs and at your reflection in the mirror. You notice that your appearance has changed, and not for the better: pallor, bags or bruises under the eyes, stretched skin, excess weight or lack of it, dull hair, brittle nails. If you look worse, then the chosen job is not suitable for you.

Sign #9: Irresponsibility

The absence of fear of punishment, reprimand, deprivation of bonuses, violation of labor discipline, lateness and absenteeism say that you do not hold on to your job. At the same time, you don’t even think that you can let your colleagues down by your actions (or inaction), slow down the work process. A disregard for duties is a sure sign that it's time to look for another or open your own business, where you yourself will set the rules.

Tehkhi Polonskaya: “A tired consciousness will offer you something to distract yourself with, making it difficult to concentrate. Naturally, at this point, productivity begins to fall. Colleagues, clients, and managers notice this, which causes a negative reaction, and takes away the last strength. In the future, if these symptoms are not addressed, there is a chance that you will start to get sick every now and then. Constant migraines, neuroses, unexpected falls on the ice are no coincidences. You're burned out and your body is trying to give you some respite."

Sign #10: Ready to Move

You feel that you are ready to hit the road - you have found something to your liking and want to make a profitable business out of it. You already have a whole bunch of ideas about this. If you feel that you are ready to launch your own project, spend enough effort, time, money on it, then this is a sure sign that you don’t have to go to work, which now occupies an important place in your life.

Inna Igolkina: “If there is no desire to work for hire and you want to do your own thing, this is wonderful. It is important that this new activity does not take up too much of your time and brings in the appropriate income. Unfortunately, often people are not ready to take responsibility for their own lives on their own. Now there are a lot of jobs that can be done remotely and still get decent money. You can master them and start earning money first in your free time. If you are convinced that you are doing well and that you are able to earn enough to support yourself, then you can start thinking about leaving the office for good and working for yourself. Otherwise, a situation may happen when you go “to nowhere”, and this only makes it worse.

If you feel that you are missing something to start your own business (start-up capital, knowledge, etc.) - think about where you can get it. You can find co-founders, partners, or a way to start from scratch (in some areas this is possible). Sometimes fears serve a positive purpose - they protect us from possible problems that we are not yet able to cope with. Therefore, you should not treat your own fears as something unambiguously bad. We need to soberly weigh all the pros and cons and then make a decision - to stay at the same place of work, find a new one or start your own business.

Sometimes, you do not need to have a sixth sense to understand: the boss is going to say goodbye to you. Sometimes it happens that "good news" falls like a bolt from the blue. But more often, the employee begins to literally feel with his liver that something is wrong. So what are the signs of an impending layoff?

  1. The simplest thing is that they openly tell you about it. Agree, unpleasant, but at least honest, because, as a rule, an employee, in competence which the authorities doubt or are already disappointed, they inform about it in advance. Did you hear the formidable "I'll fire you"? Know: the leader is not joking.
  2. Previously, your boss gave all orders and instructions orally, but now for no reason, for no reason, he began to throw mountains of written instructions? It may well be that he creates an archive to confirm your incompetence and prepares the ground for dismissal. In the most favorable scenario, he simply evaluates the quality of the work performed and looks for any inaccuracies. In any case, it does not hurt to talk and clarify what the actual matter is.
  3. Constant nagging and dissatisfaction with your work is perhaps the most obvious sign. Of course, it may be that the boss is just not in the spirit, but play it safe not prevent. Interpret this signal correctly and try to find out the reasons for the boss's displeasure. You must know what needs to be fixed so that you are not asked to leave.
  4. The upcoming reorganization or merger of companies is also an alarming bell: in most cases, the team is simply “shaken up” and getting rid of unnecessary, according to management, employees.
  5. If your opinion is neglected, and before everyone consulted with you on any issue, then either colleagues decided to boycott you for some unknown reason, or - worse - the boss is preparing to fire you, and the rest simply avoid communication so as not to follow you . Restricting access not only to official, but also personal information says the same. If earlier you were the first to know about all the gossip and juicy details of the life of your colleagues, and now they don’t even look in your direction, then don’t put it off and find out what’s going on.
  6. Have you suddenly been asked to go on vacation? Do not rush to rejoice. This may well be a signal that the company can easily do without you.
  7. Neglect or open rejection of corporate culture is one of the reasons for dismissal. From the outside, the inspired singing of corporate songs with declarations of love to the company and the entire management may really seem silly, but it is sometimes useful to forget about individualism. At least to save the current place of work. Because if you sit with a sour face at a banquet, then you may well justify yourself by saying that your tooth hurts (unless, of course, this happens every time), but when you run away from the hall where the corporate celebration takes place, only after hearing the sounds of the company anthem, then such behavior will at least cause bewildered glances.
  8. You have been working in this company for so long that only the boss came before you, but during this time you have not completed any advanced training courses and in general you only know how to carry out the instructions of the head, then this is not good. It is likely that as soon as the boss has such an opportunity, he will replace you with one of the young and promising ones with several diplomas and practical experience in your field, just because a beginner can easily make candy out of anything and replace several employees.
  9. Your boss used to overwhelm you with tasks, but now you literally have nothing to do - this is a serious sign that the boss doubts or even became disillusioned with you as a professional. And you know what might follow.
  10. And finally, the most obvious reason for dismissal is that you made a mistake. Sometimes there is a chance to correct your mistake and make amends with the boss, but often decisions to “replace” an employee occur at lightning speed. How should one behave in this case? Firstly, admit the mistake and not try to prove that your miscalculation is sheer nonsense, and secondly, if possible, then try to correct everything.

In any case, you must remember: while there is an opportunity, try to change the situation in your favor, unless, of course, you yourself do not want to be fired.

Analytical service Zarplata.ru interviewed more than 5 thousand Russians and found out that the majority (56.4%) of job seekers look through vacancies in their free time, 40% - both at home and at work, and 3.6% are engaged in searches exclusively during working hours . We asked employers what signs they know that an employee is looking for a new job.

Oksana and Mikhail Smuschenko, heads of the trading and construction company Gelster:

« The first sign that an employee is looking for a new job is that he has ceased to cope with the tasks set.. If there are no other objective reasons for this, then such a drop in productivity is usually due to the fact that the employee simply does not want to give all the best at a boring job. He no longer associates himself with the company, and spends time not on performing professional duties, but on finding a job. In our practice, we were faced with a situation where a specialist regularly failed to complete simple tasks on time. He answered direct questions with standard phrases about workload and lack of time. At the same time, for us, as leaders, it was obvious that there was no more work. Then we checked the browser history on the employee's computer and found out that during working hours he posted resumes on sites with vacancies.

If we notice the slightest changes in the behavior of an employee, then at the first stage we try to discuss them with the employee. If he honestly admits his doubts, then we always discuss what can be done to make him stay. For example, an employee wants a higher salary. In this case, together we discuss the validity of his desires, the capabilities of the company, and try to reach a consensus.

The second sign that a specialist is looking “on the side” is that he becomes more and more detached, stops showing initiative, and his mood often deteriorates. All this indicates that the work has become a burden to him. In the third stage, the employee begins to leave the office frequently to talk on the phone. Usually at this point he arranges future interviews.

In our company, we do not allow the onset of the third stage. As soon as we notice the lack of interest in work, we initiate a conversation. The employee goes to a frank dialogue - we are looking for ways to solve the problem, if he leaves the answer - we observe for a few more days. If it turns out that the reason is in the search for a new job, we immediately part. For us, this is a fundamental point, we do not negotiate with liars.

In addition, already at the second stage, the specialist knows for sure that he does not want to work with you, so there is no point in stopping him. Even if the demotivated employee does not leave now, he will do so in six months, when you will not be ready. We adhere to the point of view that sometimes it is better to let go of an inefficient specialist, leave his tasks in a “hanging” state, than to allow an employee to perform them carelessly. After all, poor-quality work of even one employee can negatively affect the reputation of the company as a whole.”

Maria Pustovalova, consultant
Wyser (international personnel holdingGi group):

“There are many indirect signs by which you can understand that your employee is looking for a new job for himself:

  • There may be a sharp change in mood, suspicious calmness, lack of initiative, behavior unusual for an employee (search for a new job is already very exciting, and the need to hide the search process adds to the experience).
  • The frequent appearance on his desktop of hard drives, flash drives on which he saves information (may be a sign that the employee is about to quit and is trying to save information on clients, contacts, etc.)
  • He began to leave more often to “talk” to the meeting room or to the corridor, began to ask for half a day / day off on personal matters or to the doctor, took an unplanned vacation (maybe he goes for interviews).
  • The employee's resume was recently updated on the job site.

If you understand that your employee is going to leave the company, then you may well ask him about it directly. So you will have the opportunity to either try to keep a good employee, or start looking for a person in advance for a place that will soon be empty. Forewarned is forearmed! Leaving will no longer be a surprise for you, you will not have to look for a new employee in a hurry, and it is quite possible that you will have time to find him quickly and the previous employee will have time to bring him up to date, which will undoubtedly speed up the adaptation time.

Olga Skorobogatova, HR and Brand Policy Director, Orgprom:

“In lean companies like ours, there is an interesting indicator that an employee is not loyal/hiding something and may be looking for a job. One of the main principles of kaizen - continuous improvement - is to make the problem visible and offer opportunities for improvement.

If an employee from my department has not contacted me for several days, has not found a single "diamond", as we call problems, and has not bowed to him, then it is "dark". This is how the corporate culture is formed - we encourage insights when an employee jumps up and says: “Oh! I have kaizen kaizen!” and offers even a trifle, but improving the process or saving us from mistakes in the future. We accumulate all these diamonds in a special table, leaders are encouraged by fame and honor and memorable gifts at the end of the year.

If an employee does not want to improve processes and sees no problems, then he is not interested, bored and looks to the side. These symptoms should be detected at a stage when prevention is still possible. Namely, leading questions, finding out the reasons for “what is wrong”, sometimes a conversation with other employees helps. I keep a close eye on people who are valuable to the company. Indifference appeared, we formalize - even when fulfilling plans - a person is dissatisfied, burned out. We need to cheer him up with ambitious tasks or a “horror story” from the market - everyone has their own motivators, who wants to achieve and who wants to avoid.

Olga Kadomskaya, employee of
Department of training and development of personnel of the company Kolocall:

“An employee’s departure can be foreseen at the interview stage. If a lawyer came to your organization for the position of an advertising manager, then know that as soon as a job offer in this professional field appears, a person will leave your organization, provided that he is really interested in working in his specialty. Or the answer to the question "What is the reason for looking for a new job" sounds like "I'm getting ready for the wedding" also says a lot. Wedding, maternity leave, children. In my experience, I came across the following: while the girl was on parental leave, we learned that she had written a letter of resignation. The reason - a new place with a large reward for work.

If a student works for you and he recently graduated from a university, you can say with a 90% probability that he is trying to find a job in his specialty or a job with a higher salary.

Walking one day in the call center between the rows, I noticed how an employee is studying the vacancy of an administrator on one well-known source. This was understandable, because he had worked for two years in one position and recently received a diploma of higher education. Without offering a person any career growth, or at least additional work in its content, one can expect to leave.

Finding out that an employee wants to say goodbye to you is very simple: look at the history in the browser, chat with people with whom the figure you are interested in contacts, analyze his work in terms of quality.

The reaction of the employer to the search for a new job for a person can be different: “lay low”, ignoring the fact or additionally stimulate him both financially and non-financially in order to keep him if the employee is valuable, does a large amount of work, and he is a good performer. And more important, in my opinion, is non-material incentives.

It is worth reacting calmly to the care of a specialist. You should not conflict and sort things out, because the reputation of the enterprise and yours personally may suffer in this case. Of course, a calm, quiet conversation should be at least in order to find out the reason, as a maximum - to keep the employee.

Yulia Meshcheryakova, Head of Human Resources (Supply Chain& Regions) FM Logistic:

“Signs that an employee is looking for a job easily fall into the category of speculation (if a person asked you to take time off, this does not mean that he went for an interview, right?). An employee can look at job search sites and monitor his market value and the requirements of employers. This happens when the company has not developed (or is not transparent) a personnel development system, a mechanism for getting into the personnel reserve and promotion. Then employees "look around" - what is the demand in the market and what skills need to be improved.

A drop in motivation is a sign that an employee can leave, and not that he went to an interview 2 times and visited a recruitment resource 5 times. If you find out about such an episode, talk openly, ask what you don't like, exchange expectations and try to find a way out of the situation together. Demotivation periodically visits everyone, overcoming it is a common managerial case.

Unfortunately, I have more often experienced the opposite. An employee of one of the HR departments updated her resume on the site. Colleagues found out about this and kindly informed her management of her colleagues (the question is, what did they themselves do there?). The manager (by the way, an HR in a large Russian retailer) began to look for a replacement for the employee, without even having a conversation with her. As a result, the company lost a valuable specialist. This is a classic example of how often in our companies the relationship between the leader and the subordinate is more like a paternalistic model than a calm business relationship between colleagues.

I keep a person when I know that we have something to offer him, and for this a dialogue is needed (and better until a possible job search).

And it’s better to develop and motivate staff than to catch your hand on job search sites and draw some conclusions from this.”

During a crisis, employees are fired more often. The problem is that, according to analysts, these layoffs do not always happen honestly. Some of the bosses are trying to “squeeze out” the employee so that he quits of his own free will, someone forces him to work twice as much, putting on the employee all the duties of the reduced colleagues. Portal analysts have collected five of the most obvious “alarm calls” that most likely they want to fire you.

1. You are shifting the responsibilities of colleagues who have already been kicked out.

This is the most popular method lately, Rabota.ua notes. Either the employee is given all the tasks of already fired colleagues, or - even worse - the most difficult, nervous or boring work is transferred to him. At the same time, the execution of tasks is very tightly controlled, and errors and blunders do not get away with it. This lasts exactly as long as the employee has the patience.

2. A stable salary is reduced

Many companies are reviewing motivation systems, including monetary ones. For example, they can reduce the salary and increase the “variable” part of the salary. The question is how achievable in principle are the criteria on the basis of which this variable part is calculated. “In order to “squeeze out” an employee, the manager simply does not revise the pre-crisis plan - and objectively there is nothing to pay a bonus for,” portal analysts explain.

3. You are transferred to another workplace

Reductions in the company often lead to personnel changes. Sometimes the employee they want to get rid of is offered a simpler position or even transferred to another department. It may happen that “a simpler position” for the same money will mean an additional burden. Such new conditions may force an employee to leave voluntarily.

A similar situation may arise in the regional office. For example, in a local office, jobs are reduced, you are offered a choice - relocation or dismissal.

4. You are no longer appreciated

For example, before you were the right hand of the boss, you were entrusted with responsible tasks, but now everything is different. You are no longer invited to important meetings, and you will be the last to know any company news. And the boss has new favorites.

5. Your boss is manipulative or obnoxious.

This is one of the common options, but it requires the manager to have knowledge of psychology about a certain skill. The goal, again, is to get the employee to leave on their own. Unfair reproaches and nit-picking, contempt and neglect can be used as means of pressure. Some use the proven practice of "divide and conquer" - defiantly praise some and scold others.

“Perfect aerobatics - when you get benefits that you generally don’t need, to the detriment of colleagues who have long dreamed of them - a new computer, a business trip abroad or training. And at the same time, some attitude of the boss is demonstrated, causing gossip behind your back. Nerves on edge - and a statement on the table of the waiting boss, ”the situation is described in Rabota.ua

What to do?

Trying to “fight” with the management is ineffective, even if you manage to keep your job, there will be no guarantees of further employment in this company. It is better to make the most of the situation: negotiate bonuses with the employer (starting from a letter of recommendation and ending with severance pay). Use health insurance, gym membership, use special discounts that are provided to employees, etc. to the end.
