Russian tea, Ivan-chai or Koporye tea is a drink known for more than ten centuries. The tradition of tea drinking appeared in Rus' long before acquaintance with overseas black tea. Dried fireweed leaves were used as tea leaves, and such tea was at a premium. According to Russian legend, fireweed was originally called Ivan-tea by the people. “... There lived a Russian boy, he always walked in a red shirt and loved to be in the field among the bushes and tall grasses. People, when they passed by and noticed something red among the greenery, said: “Yes, this is Ivan, tea, wandering.” And so it happened: redness in greenery was associated with Ivan. And once people made a fire and, together with firewood, threw tall fireweed grass into the fire. The leaves of Ivan-tea fell into a boiling cauldron of water, the broth turned out to be pleasantly fragrant, invigorated and understood the mood. So it was customary in Rus' to brew Ivan-tea.

CYPRUS

Fireweed narrow-leaved. The plant is perennial, well visited by bees. Provides bribes from mid-July to August. From a hectare with a density of 330 thousand plants, 30-400 kg of honey can be collected. It grows in one place (in burnt areas, clearings, forest edges) for 5-7 years, then it is replaced by nettles. The largest amount of nectar is released in warm weather at a temperature of 23-26 degrees in the shade and a relative humidity of 75-80%.

Nectar from the plant is abundant from the moment the corolla opens, especially during the period from the opening of most of the pollen sacs to the complete unfolding and spiral twisting of the 4 stigma lobes. The first flowers are the most nectar-bearing. The nectar content decreases as the brushes fade. Flowers bloom from 7 am to 5 pm, reaching a maximum in the first half of the day. The intensity of blooming is influenced by soil moisture (40-50%) and air temperature (about 24-28 ° C): the higher the temperature, the more flowers bloom. The greatest visit by bees to the nectary is observed from 9 am to 11 am and from 1 pm to 3 pm. The sugar productivity of one Ivan-tea flower is, depending on soil moisture, from 4 to 12 mg, with a relative humidity of 80-95% and an air temperature of 15-17 ° C, it ranges from 1.5-2.8 mg. The concentration of sugar in nectar averages 50%, but in fireweed growing in open places accessible to winds, this figure ranges from 13 to 66% or more.

Honey collection from Ivan-tea is very unstable, sometimes it is quite low. From 1 ha of willow-tea crops, you can get up to 300 kg of honey in favorable years, in unfavorable years - from 9.5 to 20.5 kg. In addition, the bees take from the plant and pale greenish-red pollen. The duration of flowering of fireweed depends on the latitude and longitude of the area in which it grows, on the height above sea level and weather conditions, as well as on the terrain and the period of its settlement in the clearing. On average, it blooms for 60-70 days, and the period of mass flowering in one area can stretch for 5-15 days.

Fireweed has long been used in folk medicine in many countries, including Russia. In 1801, that is, more than 200 years ago, G. Sobolevsky wrote in his herbalist that narrow-leaved fireweed was not used in the official medicine of Russia at that time, but was widely used in folk medicine. He noted that fireweed (its herb) has a “compressive” power, and the root has “dilutive and emollient and can be used for external dilutive poultices.” G. Sobolevsky also writes that the white creeping roots of fireweed "can be boiled and drained to eat with oil, vinegar and salt, instead of asparagus, with great pleasantness."

In folk medicine, a decoction of dried fireweed leaves was drunk against headaches and constipation. Powder of dry leaves Sprinkled wounds "from chills." Fireweed grass and roots were used as an astringent for sore throats, dysentery, and bleeding. Fireweed herb was used for epilepsy, fever, delirium tremens, anemia, a decoction of the leaves was taken as a sleeping pill.

Fireweed preparations have sedative, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, enveloping and anticonvulsant properties. An important role in this is played by the tannins and mucous substances contained in fireweed, as an anti-inflammatory agent, fireweed is used for stomach ulcers, gastritis and colitis. Fireweed is useful for any kind of inflammation of the mucous membrane of the stomach and intestines, as it reduces pain and normalizes the functional activity of all organs of the gastrointestinal tract. The analgesic qualities of fireweed make it possible to use a decoction of the leaves as an effective remedy for headaches.

Prokopovich and the imperial family also went there, and Badmaev was the godson of Alexander III. With the wonderful powders of Badmaev, made on the basis of herbs, not only the whole world of the Russian Empire was treated, foreigners came to the Russian capital especially for this.
Badmaev himself took the herbal elixir, which was Ivan Chai, and claimed that herbal elixirs based on Ivan Chai could extend life to at least 200 years.

It is possible that he really would have set a longevity record, however, at the age of 109, Pyotr Badmaev was arrested by the Petrograd Cheka and accused of counter-revolutionary activities, a few months later he was released, but severe torture undermined his health. The Doctor died without revealing the secret of his elixir.

Ivan-chai - real Russian tea

According to historians, Ivan-tea was drunk in Rus' as far back as the 12th century, and tea from China appeared only in the 17th century. The most common name is Koporsky tea, named after the village of Koporye near St. Petersburg (here Yaroslav the Wise first tried this amazing drink). The bulk of tea was harvested here (tea was packaged in linen bags), and it was used not only for their own needs, but also exported in large quantities to Europe from the end of the 14th century. There he was called Russian or Ivan-tea. Later, with the advent of the revolution, production in Koporye ceased.

Gathering Ivan-tea

Fireweed leaves are harvested in June-August (depending on the climate) during flowering, running a hand down the stem from the inflorescences. Thus, 30-40% of the leaves are collected from each bush, leaving several upper leaves and the top intact. This is the most humane way to collect.

Recipe one

Withering: you need to scatter tea leaves with an approximate layer of 5 cm and dry them to a state of lethargy. Do not forget to periodically stir up the leaves. Twisting: after drying, the leaves are rolled into small "sausages" until dark. Fermentation: already twisted leaves are placed in a bowl (preferably enameled) with a layer of 5 centimeters and covered with a damp cloth. This is the so-called. ripening process, which lasts up to 12 hours at a temperature not higher than 27C. The leaves will acquire a pleasant fruity aroma.

Drying: the leaves are finely chopped and laid out in a layer of 1 cm on a baking sheet, where they are dried for one hour at a temperature of 100C. Do not overdo it, otherwise the tea leaves will turn into dust.

Recipe two (old way)

Spread the leaves on a damp linen canvas in a layer of about 3 cm and roll tightly into a roll. Pull the twisted host with a rope or tourniquet. 20-30 min. Crumple the resulting twist with your hands, bending it in different directions. We do the initial fermentation 2-3 hours before warming up to 37 degrees (usual check by touch). It should be crumpled grass. For complete fermentation, we tightly pack the leaves into plastic buckets. After that, lay the leaves on a baking sheet and put in the oven (100C - just right) for 1.5-2 hours.

Stir often! Some sprinkle the leaves with water and honey to give them a special flavor. The oven must be open. It is necessary to put a couple of red clay bricks on the bottom of the oven so that Ivan-tea leaves do not fry (it will turn out to be similar to a Russian oven, because the bricks stabilize the overall temperature and emit infrared rays of a certain spectrum)

Recipe three

- We leave the collected leaves in the shade for a day so that they wilt;
- We twist the leaves in the palms until the juice comes out (small cigars should turn out);
- We lay out the cigars on a baking sheet and cover with a damp cloth for 6-10 hours;
- Now we unroll the cigars and lay them on a baking sheet in a thin layer, dry at a temperature of 100C in an ajar oven for 40 minutes. Ready!

Ivan tea storage

So that tea does not lose its aroma, taste and beneficial properties, it is recommended to store it in a tightly closed glass jar. With proper storage, the aroma and taste of Ivan-tea even improve. This is the so-called. dry fermentation. The optimal shelf life is 2-3 years.

Application of Ivan tea

Ivan tea mask

10 ml. tinctures on vodka of Koporsky tea flowers, salt on the tip of a knife and oatmeal. Mix until a liquid mass is formed and apply on the face (10-15 minutes).

A decoction of the rhizomes of Ivan-tea

pour 250 ml. boiled water 10 g of crushed Ivan tea roots and boil for about 20 minutes, then strain. We take 3-4 times a day, one tbsp. l.

Fireweed juice

Squeeze the juice of young leaves from the tops of the stems. Mix juice with honey in a ratio of 1:1 and take before meals.

Infusion of Ivan-tea

20 g of Ivan-tea herbs pour 200 ml. boiling water and leave for 2 hours. Strain and take before meals one tbsp. l.

It is said that Ivan-tea spreads rapidly in the places of fires. Apparently, this is how Mother Earth heals her wounds. This plant not only gives us health: due to its unique property to saturate the soil with nitrogen, it returns the lost vital energy to the earth.

It is better to tear the leaves when the top just blooms. Knead the leaves with your hands in a clean bucket until it smells like dried fruit. Then keep a day for fermentation. Cut with a knife and dry in the oven at 80-90 gr. in the "on 30 min. pause 1-2 hours.

The spirit in the apartment is chic. At night - a break, then dry again. Store in a glass container in the refrigerator or in paper bags in a dry, ventilated place.

Fireweed should be brewed in a thermos. Repeated brewing gives the best effect.

Recipe for fireweed tea or Ivan-chaya among the people

Ivan-tea has therapeutic and prophylactic properties and is distinguished by an unusually delicate taste and aroma with honey shades of flowering herbs, does not contain caffeine.
We make it ourselves as follows: we collect the leaves of Ivan-tea in June - July.
The leaves are dried in the shade, then passed through a meat grinder.
Next, the resulting mass must be left for several hours in a closed container in order to start the fermentation process. It is after this that fireweed becomes a tea drink, acquires a rich taste and aroma. Fermentation is perhaps the most important operation, it must be stopped when there is a rich fruity smell in the mass. Stop fermentation by raising the temperature. Those. tea is laid out on baking sheets and dried at a temperature not exceeding 60 degrees. You can do it yourself at home.

Black and green Ivan tea (fireweed)

Black and green tea are made from the same plant. However, the difference in the processing of the leaves makes them completely different products with unique distinctive properties.

To make black tea, the harvested leaves are dried for several hours to remove moisture from them. After that, they pass through the rollers, where the tissues of the tea leaf are destroyed. Next, the process of oxidation, that is, fermentation, occurs, in which the flavonoids of the tea leaf are converted into more complex combinations: theaflavins and thearubigins.

Oxidation occurs at elevated temperature and humidity until the tea acquires the aroma of the desired concentration. The tea is then dried at an elevated temperature in an oven.

Black tea is infused for about 5 minutes in hot water (90 degrees). According to some reports, over-aged tea (brewed for more than 30 minutes) becomes hazardous to health.

Repeated brewing of black tea is pointless. Already in the second brew, no more than 50 percent of useful substances remain.

Black tea is called the drink of longevity for its ability to increase cerebral circulation, that is, the fight against stroke.

Ivan tea contraindications

However, excessive consumption of this drink removes magnesium from the body and quickly excites the nervous system, can cause rheumatoid arthritis and chronic fatigue syndrome.

Black tea is contraindicated in pregnant women and patients with glaucoma.

Ivan-chai green tea

For the production of green tea, the leaves are steamed in special apparatus in order to remove moisture from them. At the same time, the oxidation process is excluded, which activates enzymes in the composition of tea and the composition of the product is similar to the composition of fresh tea leaves. The tea leaves are just rolled and ready to drink.

Green tea is brewed with water at a temperature of 80-85 degrees. You need to insist it for only 10 seconds to get the best taste and aroma. With a longer infusion, tea can be bitter. Quality tea can be re-brewed up to 15 times.

Green tea restores the nervous system, increasing resilience in stressful situations. It makes the walls of blood vessels elastic and resilient, reduces high blood pressure and cholesterol levels, saves from sclerosis.

However, excessive consumption of green tea can cause insomnia, and in pregnant women, it can lead to premature birth.

It is not difficult to prepare Koporye tea on your own, the main condition for preparation is to ferment. As a result of this “operation”, the insoluble beneficial substances of Ivan-tea pass into the soluble phase and can pass into water when brewed. The plant itself contains everything necessary for fermentation. These are its own juices and enzymes. If the leaf is crushed in the hands, then part of the cells will burst, the plant will release juice. Wet crumpled leaves will contain vitamins, nutrients and intracellular enzymes. These enzymes, leaving the vacuoles, begin to actively change the biochemical composition of the plant. At the same time, the leaves darken somewhat, a different, pleasant smell appears. For this fermentation process, it is necessary to leave finely chopped, well-crumpled leaves in a non-metallic dish under oppression (with a decrease in contact with air and metal, vitamins are preserved) for 1-2 days at room temperature. If you keep it longer, then the tea will ferment like cabbage.

After fermentation, the leaves should be put in a cast-iron pan and "simmered" over very low heat for 40 minutes. This heating to a hot state is necessary to accelerate fermentation, in which part of the insoluble substances of plant tissue are converted into soluble and easily digestible. These are the substances that give taste, smell and color to tea.
After 40 minutes of languishing, it is necessary to turn on medium heat and, constantly stirring with a wooden spatula, bring the leaves to a dry state. This must be done very carefully so as not to burn the leaves, otherwise the tea will take on a burnt aroma.

In appearance, it is an ordinary black large-leaf tea, with a pleasant peculiar smell. When brewed, Ivan-tea gives a good color and a pleasant smell, and when the dosage is increased, it acquires an intense color and astringency like the usual tea. And you can just brew dry fireweed like regular tea, just leave for an hour and a half, use it as tea leaves ...
Interestingly, brewing Ivan tea does not stain tooth enamel, and in general, properly prepared Ivan tea is much tastier than Indian or Ceylon tea. By its properties, the Ivan-tea drink occupies, as it were, an intermediate position between black and green in terms of strength. And if you add flowers, dried berries and fruits to this tea, then it will become a true unique gift from your native Mother Nature - to your own delight and to your guests' surprise!

Fireweed is a wild plant growing near rivers, in moist soil. Also found in forest clearings, hills, etc. It can grow up to half a meter, sometimes it reaches human height. It blooms almost throughout the summer with pinkish flowers that open only in the early morning. Plant-barometer - closes flowers before rain.
Raw materials are harvested during flowering - July-August, when the flower brush has not yet fully blossomed, because later, when the plant fades, fruit-boxes appear, filled with seeds and fluff.

What is fireweed

What is fireweed, useful properties and contraindications, what are the medicinal properties of this plant, all this is of great interest to those who lead a healthy lifestyle, monitor their health, and are interested in folk methods of treatment, including with the help of medicinal herbs and spices . So we will try to answer these questions in the following article.

Fireweed (lat. Epilóbium) is a genus of herbs or shrubs of the fireweed family (Onagraceae). Earlier, plants of the genus Ivan-tea (lat. Chamaenerion) were also included in the fireweed genus.

Fireweed is a tall herb with long leaves and large dark pink flowers found on all continents in temperate climates. Fireweed prefers well-lit places: flat banks of rivers and streams, meadows, burnt areas and clearings.

The English name for fireweed is narrow-leaved, or willow-herb - Fireweed - means "weed of conflagrations." On the lands devastated by fire, this plant appears first, preparing the conditions for the settlement of other plants in the future.

Fireweed flowers consist of four pink sepals, four free petals, eight stamens and a bent pistil. All flowers are collected in a pointed brush, they open from six to seven in the morning. At the base of its rose petals, it is easy to detect drops of nectar, which are removed by winged workers - up to a thousand kilograms per hectare - then turn it into fragrant light honey. The leaves are lanceolate, alternate, very similar to willow leaves. Small seeds with white hairs. A hectare of fireweed sows up to four billion such seeds, they have excellent germination and germination energy.

In folk medicine, both the above-ground part of the fireweed - leaves and flowers, and the underground - rhizome are used. The collection of leaves and flowers occurs during the flowering period of the medicinal plant, and the flowers should not be fully opened, since there is a high probability that during the drying process they will turn into seeds. Before drying, the leaves are separated from the shoots and laid out under a canopy in a thin layer.

The roots are harvested after flowering (in autumn). After digging, the rhizome is cleaned from the ground and washed well under cold water, after which it is dried in an oven at a temperature of 70 ° C.

What is useful fireweed

If you examine only 100 g of the green mass of a plant, you will find that it contains 16 mg of manganese, 2.3 mg of iron and copper, 1.3 mg of nickel and titanium, 6 mg of boron and 0.44 mg of molybdenum. These metal particles are excellent stimulants in the process of hematopoiesis.

The roots and leaves of narrow-leaved fireweed contain 10-20% tannins, up to 0.4% ascorbic acid, carotene, sugars, pectin, mucus, alkaloids. Fireweed seeds contain up to 40–45% fatty oil.

Before budding, in the aerial part of the narrow-leaved fireweed there is up to 20% protein, salts of phosphorus, calcium, cobalt, up to 15% mucus.

In fireweed, all parts of the plant are used. So, its roots are boiled and eaten like asparagus, they taste like a cross between asparagus and cauliflower, and are quite nutritious due to the high content of starch. But the roots are not only tasty, they are also useful, as they have a mild laxative effect, preventing constipation. For the same purpose, you can drink an infusion of fireweed.

A large number of various mineral salts contained in this magical herb - magnesium, calcium and potassium - serve to normalize the work of almost all organs of the human body. There are a large amount of tannins in fireweed, which allows it to be used for intestinal disorders.

The healing power of this miracle herb acts on all parts of its path through the body, including the urinary tract. Therefore, a decoction, infusion or alcoholic tincture of fireweed is successfully used in the treatment of inflammatory diseases of the urinary tract. For example, in chronic cystitis, which are difficult to treat and prone to relapse, it is simply irreplaceable.

There are a lot of fireweed and vitamins in the composition, and the amount of vitamin C in its leaves is three times more than in orange fruits. There are also sugar and carotene, pectin substances and alkaloids in the composition of various parts of fireweed. Oil content in seeds up to 45%.

Fireweed contains:

  • flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol, which has an antispasmodic choleretic and diuretic effect);
  • tannins (up to 20% of tannins of the pyrogal group, which have astringent anti-inflammatory and hemostatic effects);
  • mucus (up to 15%, which provides emollient and enveloping properties, the ability to relieve inflammation, relieve pain, soothe and relieve convulsions);
  • a small amount of alkaloids (these substances are poisonous in large doses, but in small doses they have wonderful healing properties, can improve metabolism, blood circulation, and the state of the nervous system are good painkillers);
  • chlorophyll (a green plant pigment that absorbs light energy stimulates wound healing, improves metabolism);
  • pectin (this substance increases the shelf life of tea).
  • The leaves contain vitamins, especially a lot of carotene (provitamin A) and vitamin C (up to 200-388 mg - 3 times more than in oranges).
  • The roots are rich in starch (this is the reserve carbohydrate of plants), polysaccharides (these carbohydrates are involved in immune reactions), organic acids (participate in biochemical reactions, play an important role in maintaining acid-base balance).

In addition, a large number of trace elements stimulating hematopoiesis were found in the leaves of willow tea - iron, copper, manganese and other trace elements necessary for metabolism - nickel, titanium, molybdenum, boron.

Fireweed contraindications

There are not many contraindications for fireweed. In the case of using medicines according to exact prescriptions, only its positive effect on the body is felt. In case of an overdose, mild indigestion sometimes occurs.

The healing properties of fireweed

The unique composition determines the variety of healing properties of Ivan-tea. It is also a mild laxative, emollient, enveloping, wound healing, analgesic, anticonvulsant effect. In its anti-inflammatory properties, Ivan-tea surpasses all medicinal plants - it has been scientifically proven that it has the highest coefficient of anti-inflammatory action among plants! And in terms of its tranquilizing effect (calming, reducing the feeling of tension, anxiety, fear), it has no equal at all.

In folk medicine, Ivan-tea has long been considered also an antitumor agent. And scientific studies have confirmed the centuries-old experience of herbalists, a high-molecular compound hanerol was isolated from the inflorescences of willow-tea, which exhibits antitumor activity, has a relatively low toxicity and a wide range of effects on tumors.

Fireweed gives us:

  • prevention of malignant and benign neoplasms;
  • enhances potency;
  • effective in diseases of the genitourinary system (powerful prevention of prostitis);
  • scars ulcers of the stomach and duodenum;
  • increased immunity to respiratory viral infections;
  • caries prevention;
  • improves blood composition;
  • reduces intoxication of the body;
  • relieves food and alcohol poisoning;
  • restores strength during exhaustion;
  • with stones in the liver, kidneys and diseases of the spleen;
  • strengthens hair roots;
  • vitamin C in Ivan tea is 6.5 times more than in lemon;
  • eliminates headache;
  • normalizes blood pressure.

The beneficial properties of fireweed help a person in the treatment of many diseases, while you can use them not only when taking infusions and decoctions of fireweed inside, but also for external use. These can be baths from a decoction of a plant, compresses and rinses.

Such baths treat eczema, purulent wounds, ulcers. Also, crushed fireweed leaves are applied to inflamed, long-term healing wounds. Fireweed doused with boiling water is applied in the form of compresses to the joints and muscles, removing pain with such a compress.

The components that make up fireweed help normalize sleep for people suffering from insomnia. Experiments conducted by scientists have shown that fireweed has an anticonvulsant effect, and the preparation "Hanerol" obtained from the plant is now being tested as an antitumor agent of high activity.

Fireweed for men

The beneficial properties of fireweed for men are worth mentioning separately. According to some herbalists, fireweed is able to fight prostatitis and prostate adenoma no worse than traditional medicines. Due to the development of the disease, a benign tumor is often formed. With drug treatment, they try to prevent its development with the strongest antibiotics and hormonal drugs, the long-term use of which is fraught with consequences.

In such a situation, the best way out of the situation would be the use of Koporye tea, which significantly alleviates the symptoms of the disease, and also inhibits the development of the tumor. With timely treatment, the disease can disappear altogether, which makes it possible to avoid surgical intervention.

Fireweed: chemical composition

Fireweed, Ivan-tea, the healing properties of which are due to the composition of the herb, contains several active ingredients:

  • fiber - its presence is due to the composition of the cell wall of plants;
  • mucus are sugars that easily decompose into components under the action of hydrolysis;
  • proteins - they contain dozens of amino acids, including essential ones;
  • tannins - especially tannin, which has a detoxifying and anti-inflammatory effect;
  • carotene - is involved in the formation of vitamin A inside the body;
  • vitamin C - strengthens the immune system;
  • flavonoids - prevent aging and the occurrence of vascular pathologies;
  • phytosterols - especially useful for keeping the heart and reproductive system in good shape;

  • potassium - is responsible for the proper functioning of the heart;
  • calcium - maintains the state of the skeletal system;
  • sodium - is involved in maintaining the body in a state of ionic equilibrium.

The highest concentration of nutrients is in the leaves of the plant. This is due to exposure to sunlight, under the influence of which the synthesis of most compounds occurs.

Ivan tea: useful and medicinal properties

For the beneficial properties of Ivan-tea, not only vitamins and groups of active substances are responsible, but also amino acids in the composition of proteins. They affect all organ systems, allowing you to delicately adjust their work.

The most active include:

  • histidine - stimulates enzyme formation and tissue repair, suitable for people with gastrointestinal diseases;
  • aspartic acid - ensures the normal functioning of the central nervous system and the absorption of minerals;
  • tretionin - support the cardiovascular and immune systems, as well as the functioning of the liver and kidneys;
  • tyrosine - helps to transmit nerve impulses, which improves brain function;
  • leucine - allows muscle tissue to recover faster after damage, which is especially important for injured people or patients after surgical treatment;

  • methionine - acts on the internal organs, improving the functioning of the kidneys and liver.

In addition to the restorative effect, the healing properties of Ivan-tea are no less interesting.

They are due to the action of active substances in the composition of the plant:

  • tannin - has a cleansing and anti-inflammatory effect, allows you to stop diarrhea and has a positive effect on the digestive tract;
  • mucus - replenish the energy resources of the body, which ensures vigor and activity of a person;
  • fiber - helps to remove undigested food residues from the body, improves the functioning of the digestive tract.

Angustifolium fireweed (Chamerion angustifolium) from the fireweed family, this is one of the most mysterious plants, the healing properties of which are legendary. No less interesting are the popular names of fireweed, indicating the way it is used: "Kuril tea", "Koporsky tea", "Ivan tea". In the folk names of fireweed, there are often indications of the area of residence or ethnicity of the people, where this natural healer is in high esteem.

Fireweed received the name "Ivan-tea" for a reason: narrow-leaved fireweed was traditionally used by the peoples of the Far East as a universal remedy for the treatment of male problems. Scientific medicine treats this with a certain degree of skepticism, but traditional healers do not share the skepticism of pundits, and in their practice they often resort to the help of fireweed in the treatment of problems in the urogenital area.

Some historians have their own hypothesis about the origin of folk names. According to them, fireweed leaves were used by dishonest merchants to falsify black tea (mixed up to 50%). And this hypothesis has the right to exist, given the high content of tannins in fireweed leaves, which will be discussed below.

The chemical composition of medicinal raw materials and the pharmacological action of Ivan-tea

Fireweed narrow-leaved does not belong to pharmacopoeial plants, however, its chemical composition has been carefully studied. First of all, it is necessary to note the high content of tannins in the roots and leaves of fireweed. Ivan-tea plant mucus contains tannins (tannin derivatives) of the pyrogallol group (10-20%), which are only slightly inferior in their anti-inflammatory properties to pure medical tannin. For comparison, fireweed tannins have an anti-inflammatory effect at a dilution of 1:400; in medical tannin, the protein number reaches 1:1500. Protein number is a term adopted in the designation of the coefficient of anti-inflammatory action. Following Ivan tea (ranked by protein number) are such well-known anti-inflammatory properties of the plant as bergenia, bearberry and oak. Another interesting observation: in whole leaves, the protein number is lower than in crushed ones, and scientists explain this phenomenon by the combined action of tannins and plant mucus, the content of which reaches 15%.

In addition to tannins, a number of flavonoids (quercetin, kaempferol) and organic acids with P-vitamin activity (coffee, p-coumaric, and ellagic acids) were found in fireweed.

The anti-inflammatory properties of willow-herb leaves justify its use in the treatment of gastric and duodenal ulcers and gastritis. Fireweed is also prescribed for colitis.

Preparation of preparations from Ivan-tea

For therapeutic purposes, water extracts are used - infusions and decoctions of fireweed leaves. Raw materials (fireweed leaves) are pre-crushed to a size of about 5 mm. To prepare the infusion, the raw material is poured with boiling water in a proportion of 15 g per 200 ml of water and infused for up to half an hour. When preparing a decoction, the raw material is poured with cold water, kept for a while at a low boil (15 minutes after boiling), and then insisted from half an hour to 1 hour. The drug is prescribed in a dosage of 1 tbsp. appointment. Multiplicity of reception - up to 4 times a day, with reference to the diet. It is necessary to take an infusion or decoction of fireweed before meals. The therapeutic and prophylactic effect of Ivan-tea preparations is most effective in course administration. The duration of the continuous use of infusions or decoctions is 1 month, and the interval between courses is the same in time.

Fireweed tea. For 250 ml of boiling water - 2 tsp. dry raw materials. Insist 15 minutes. Tea is recommended to be consumed twice a day.

The use of Ivan tea in folk medicine

In addition to the use of fireweed for the treatment of diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, folk healers prescribe its preparations in case of sleep disturbance (insomnia), as an anesthetic for migraines. Ivan-tea has proven itself as a hemostatic agent, therefore it is used in gynecological practice (uterine bleeding). The anti-inflammatory and astringent properties of Ivan-tea determine its use externally, for washing wounds, ulcers, etc.

"Fashion for fireweed" in the treatment of diseases of the male genital area reached its peak in 1970, and Ivan-tea became one of the most popular remedies for prostatitis, adenoma and even oncological neoplasms of the prostate gland, as well as impotence and infertility associated with them. Scientific studies have not confirmed the high effectiveness of fireweed preparations in relation to such prescriptions, although an improvement in the patient's condition was clearly noted.

Herbal treatment of prostate adenoma * on the advice of the folk healer Anatoly Tereshchuk from Rivne, it is advisable to carry out in combination with the recommendations of traditional medicine. The recipe for the collection, which also includes fireweed, according to the author, was personally tested by him. As part of the medicinal collection: leaves of ginkgo biloba and inflorescences of willow-tea - 2 parts each, 1 part each of red amaranth inflorescences, echinacea herb and lofanta herb. For a glass of boiling water, you need to take 1 tbsp. herbal mixture, and insist for a quarter of an hour. Take three times a day for half a glass of infusion, 30 minutes before meals. The healer advises treatment in courses of 30 days, with interruptions, lasting from 7 to 10 days.

By the way, the introduction of ginkgo biloba into the recipe, on the one hand, enhances the therapeutic effect, on the other hand, it compensates for the blood-clotting properties of fireweed.

Crushed fresh fireweed leaves are used as compresses in the treatment of wounds and bruises.

Side effects and contraindications to the use of fireweed preparations

Fireweed preparations do not have absolute contraindications for treatment, and, nevertheless, the high content of tannins should be taken into account, which, if taken for a long time, can negatively affect the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract. With increased blood clotting, one should also not abuse the treatment with fireweed preparations.

The use of Ivan-tea in cooking**

Inheriting the experience of dishonest traders, dry fireweed leaves can brew instead of tea, or add them to the tea leaves, which increases the strength of the drink and the saturation of the color.

Borsch. Ingredients: fireweed, nettle and sorrel greens - 100 g each, potatoes - 200 g, onions - 40 g, carrots - 10 g. Additionally, you will need 20 g of margarine and sour cream, as well as half a chicken egg. The greens are blanched for 2 minutes, the water is allowed to drain and finely chopped (after stewed with fat). Onions and carrots are also cut and sautéed. Potatoes are dipped in boiling water (or broth), after a while the rest of the ingredients are added and boiled until tender. Salt and spices are added before the end of cooking. Chopped egg and sour cream are used to season the dish immediately before serving.

Salad. Boil young shoots of fireweed together with leaves (50 - 100 g) for 2 minutes, chop. Boiling is required to reduce astringency. Then add chopped onion (50 g) and grated horseradish (2 tablespoons). Salt is added to taste. For salad dressing, sour cream (20 g) is used mixed with lemon juice squeezed from 1/4 lemon. If desired, the dish can be peppered.

Seasoning. For cooking, you will need green sorrel, lungwort and Ivan tea. The greens are finely chopped, ground with table salt (up to 10% of the total mass) and stored in a glass container in the refrigerator. Used to season soups.
