The history of the brand of orbits. What is chewing gum made of? Various nutritional supplements

Judging by the advertisements, "dentists recommend" a miracle remedy for caries called Orbit and Dirol, and each brand is trying to prove that it is the best! But not at all beautiful girls in white coats work in your mouth ...

Composition of chewing gum Orbit:

sorbitol E420, maltitol E965, rubber base, thickener E414, stabilizer E422, natural, identical natural and artificial flavors, mannitol E421, soy lecithin emulsifier, dye E171, sweeteners aspartame E951, acesulfame K E950, sodium bicarbonate E500ii, glaze E903, antioxidant E320 .

Composition of chewing gum Dirol:

isomalt, sorbitol, mannitol, xylitol, maltitol syrup, aspartame, acesulfame-K, rubber base, calcium carbonate 4%, natural flavors: mint, menthol, natural vanillin, artificial refreshing, thickener E414, stabilizer E422, hydrogenated rapeseed oil, emulsifier E322, dye E171, glazing agent E903, antioxidant E321, texturizer E341iii.

What are chewing gum made of anyway?

1. Latex- gum base. So far, it is considered harmless. However, full studies have not been conducted.

2. Flavors, natural and identical to them. They are not always harmless, because they are often obtained by chemical means (synthesis). Sanitary regulations allow this.

3. Dyes. If you meet E171 on the packaging, you should know that this is the so-called titanium white. Previously, in Russia they were banned in food products, but now the ban does not work (money decides a lot). This dye causes liver and kidney disease. Stimorol gum contains E-131 dye, which promotes the formation of cancer cells.

Do you chew gum? Do you buy it for kids? Did you read on the back of what the chewing gum is made of or didn’t even think, believing in advertising?

Composition of Orbit and Dirol.

Orbit

Sorbitol E420, Maltitol E965, Gum Base, Thickener E414, Stabilizer E422, Natural and Artificial Flavors, Mannitol E421, Soy Lecithin E322, Titanium Dioxide E171, Aspartame E951, Acesulfame Potassium E950, Sodium Bicarbonate E500, Glaze E903, Antioxidant E321.

Isomalt, sorbitol E420, mannitol E421, xylitol, maltitol syrup, aspartame E951, acesulfame Potassium E950, rubber base, calcium carbonate 4%, natural flavors: mint, menthol, identical to natural vanillin, artificial refreshing, thickener E414, stabilizer E422, hydrogenated rapeseed oil, soy lecithin E322, dye E171, glazing agent E903, antioxidant E321, texturizer E341iii.

Let's go through some ingredients, the most "important" and harmful:

Sorbitol (sorbitol) E420 is an artificial sugar. Side effects: headaches, bloating, diarrhea, intestinal bleeding, dizziness, worsening of symptoms of indigestion and asthma, abdominal pain, dry mouth, irregular urination, convulsions. Sorbitol is the main ingredient in the chewable mixture.

Gum base is a chewing substance and the basis of chewing gum from chemicals. Gum base contains:

Butyl rubber is a type of rubber used to make basketballs and the lining of car tires.

Polyvinyl acetate (aka PVA glue) is a plastic that turns into rubber when it is heated, and glue is made from it.

Wax similar to that from which candles are made.

wood resin

These ingredients are mixed and heated to form a gum base for the chewable mixture.

Mannitol (mannitol) - this can also be used as a means to facilitate the transport of pharmaceuticals directly to the BRAIN. From a Western Wikipedia article, I realized that the arteries of our brain are different from all the others. In other words, it turned out that it is not so easy to penetrate into our brain, especially to introduce some kind of chemicals into it, and in order to do this, patients were injected with beckoning. Maybe I misunderstood about manita and I would like to ask doctors who know something about manita. I would like to believe a little that all the chemistry contained in the gum gets into the human brain.

Acesulfame Potassium E950 (Acesulfame potassium). In the Russian Wikipedia, the information is not complete, but in the Western Wikipedia, this ingredient for chewing gum is more extensively described. What amazes me is the way Americans write. Perhaps it causes cancer, is it possible to understand? That is, out of ten experimental rats, four were found to have cancer from the drug, which means that the consequences can be interpreted as possibly causing cancer, right?)) It seems to me that it is not possible to cause cancer, but modern gum causes one hundred percent.

Aspartame (Aspartame) is a dangerous sweetener, the side effects of which are very huge: multiple sclerosis, memory loss, hormonal problems, hearing loss, epilepsy, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, hypoglycemia, dementia, brain damage, neurodoctrinal disorders. All these diseases occur due to long-term use, drinks and foods containing aspartame. And mild side effects include: headaches, migraines, nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue, sleep problems, vision problems, depression, asthma. All sugary carbonated drinks contain aspartame.

Aspartame can be safely called a biological weapon. In addition to the sweet taste, aspartame is a source of phenylalanine. In the human body, phenylalanine leads to hormonal imbalance, which is especially dangerous for children, pregnant women, overweight people, diabetics, and other patients with impaired metabolism. Phenylalanine can accumulate in the body for years and only then cause a disease.

Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT or antioxidant E321) is a food additive used in jet fuel, rubber, petroleum distillates, as an oil for electrical transformers, and as a freezing salve for corpses in morgues.

Soy lecithin E322 - GMO soy causes infertility.

If you carefully study the composition of the chewing gum, you will see that its main components are glycerin (E-422 stabilizer), gum arabic (E-414 thickener), butylhydrooxinazole (E-320 antioxidant), lecithins and phosphatides (E-322 emulsifier). Glycerin, being absorbed into the blood in large quantities, exhibits toxic properties, which can result in such blood diseases as hemolysis, hemoglobinuria, and even methemoglobin kidney infarcts. The concentration of butylhydrooxinazole increases the level of cholesterol in the blood, and lecithin promotes strong salivation with subsequent disorders of the digestive system. The composition of saliva also undergoes serious changes with constant chewing of gum, which threatens the development of caries, periodontal disease, gingivitis, etc.

Those who are familiar with Pavlov's reflex laws understand that with prolonged chewing, the work of the secretory apparatus of the digestive system begins, that is, the salivary glands begin to produce saliva when food enters the stomach, more gastric juice is released, bile is collected in the gallbladder, that is, the entire digestive the system is preparing for food processing. And there is no food! At the same time, saliva cannot be neutralized anywhere, and gastric juice too. Such congestion leads to the formation of gallstones, gastritis, duodenitis, cholecystitis and pathology of the salivary glands.

By the way, if the E171 “food” additive is mentioned on the package, it is the so-called titanium white.

Alas, chewing gum with stickers, pictures turned out to be practically poisonous, they emit poisonous styrene. These are "Terminator", "Donald", "Rambo", "Spinning Wheel", "Wonder Wheel", "Super", "Lemon", "Puppet Series".

Think about your health and the health of your children before buying gum.

Rate the news

Popularly referred to as chewing gum, it is a lifesaver in the daily life of every person.

Sometimes it happens that some situations make it impossible to brush your teeth. Or you need to freshen your breath before a business meeting or date. It is at such moments that chewing gum comes to the rescue.

Although not everyone is happy with her. Some question the chemical composition of gum. But is chewing gum really that bad?

History of occurrence

The origin of chewing gum is rooted in the distant past, namely, the first mention of it appeared 5000 years ago in ancient Greece.

The Greeks, as well as the inhabitants of the Middle East, cleaned their teeth by chewing rubber and the resin of the mastic tree. So these tools can be safely called the first prototypes of chewing gum.

But the origin, which approximately resembled the real one, dates back to 1848. Of course, it is very different from the modern one. The basis for chewing gum, the composition - all this was based on rubber. Yes, she looked different.

Its creator was John Curtis, an Englishman who created gum from resin with the addition of beeswax. He cut it in portions into small pieces, wrapped it in paper and put it up for sale. Somewhat later, Curtis added spices and paraffin to his invention, which gave the chewing gum flavor. Although all this did not save the situation that the chewing gum could not withstand the heat and sunlight in any way and in a short time lost its marketable appearance.

Chewing gum, the composition of which was very primitive, underwent some changes only in 1884. Thomas Adams was the inventor of the improved chewing gum.

His first chewing gum was endowed with an elongated shape and a licorice taste, which, however, was short-lived. The problem was decided to be corrected by adding sugar and corn syrup.

Since then, chewing gum began to gradually take on the appearance of the product that everyone is used to seeing in our time.

Adams was the creator of the first fruit-flavored chewing gum, whose name, by the way, this chewing gum is still produced to this day.

In 1892, Wrigley's Spearmint, still known to this day, appeared, the creator of which was William Wrigley. In addition, he improved the technical production of the product - the chewing gum itself, the composition has changed: the shape has become expressed in the form of a plate or a ball, components such as powdered sugar, fruit additives have been added.

Chemical components of chewing gum

At the beginning of the last century, chewing gum manufacturers came up with a single formula for what real chewing gum should be. Its composition looked like this:

1. Sugar or its substitutes make up 60%.

2. Rubber - 20%.

3. Flavored components - 1%.

4. Corn syrup to prolong the taste - 19%.

Modern manufacturers produce their products with the following composition:

1. Chewing base.

2. Aspartame.

3. Starch.

4. Coconut oil.

5. Various dyes.

6. Glycerol.

7. Flavors of natural and artificial nature.

8. Technical ionol.

9. Acids: malic and citric.

This composition raises doubts about the usefulness of chewing gum. But without chemical components, modern chewing gum would not be able to retain its taste for a long time, be subject to long-term storage.

Benefits of chewing gum

The use of chewing gum, although it causes a lot of controversy about its benefits and harms, nevertheless, this does not detract from its relevance. Chewing this product brings its own benefits for a person.

  • Chewing gum makes breath fresh and pleasant.
  • Regular chewing helps strengthen gums. This is true, but for this you need to chew evenly on both sides of the mouth, otherwise you can achieve the development of facial asymmetry.
  • Maintains the acid-base environment of the oral cavity.

Chewing gum harm

Every day, hundreds of thousands of people, and maybe more, chew gum without thinking about its effect on the body. But chewing gum can be harmful.

  • Regular use disrupts the usual production of saliva. Salivation quantitatively increases, and this is a negative deviation from the norm.
  • You can't chew gum on an empty stomach. The result of this can be the production of gastric juice, which will irritate the walls of the stomach, which will eventually lead to the formation of gastritis.
  • Although chewing gum strengthens the gums, it can also adversely affect their condition. The result can be impaired blood circulation, which will lead to their inflammation or periodontal disease.
  • Recently, scientists have found that regular gum chewing contributes to a slow reaction and deterioration of mental abilities.
  • If you have fillings on your teeth, chewing gum can cause them to fall out.
  • Chemical carcinogens have negative effects on the body, including can provoke the development of various diseases. First of all, the gastrointestinal tract can suffer.

Myths about chewing gum

Chewing gum is a popular product. Commercials claim daily that its regular use will bring a lot of benefits, for example, it will protect teeth from caries, give them perfect whiteness, and freshen breath. But which of this is true, and which is just a publicity stunt?

Myth 1: chewing gum will prevent cavities and clean your teeth of food debris. The plausibility of this statement is about 50 to 50. Of course, chewing gum will not protect against caries, but it can remove food debris, as a result of which chewing gum can be used when there is no way to brush your teeth.

Myth 2: Gum will create a "Hollywood smile". Alas, but this is an empty promise of advertising.

Myth 3: Chewing gum will speed up weight loss. Many believe that chewing gum reduces the feeling of hunger, respectively, you want to eat less. But this is a delusion. Also, don't chew gum on an empty stomach.

Myth 4: Swallowed gum will remain in the stomach for several years. This cannot be. The chewing gum will be eliminated from the body naturally in a couple of days.

"Orbit". What is inside?

"Orbit" - chewing gum, the composition of which includes various artificial fillers. However, this manufacturer is quite famous, which justifies the huge popularity of the product produced by him.

After looking at the composition of the chewing gum "Orbit", which is indicated on the back of the package, you can see the following elements:

The components that create a sweet aftertaste are maltitol E965, sorbitol E420, mannitol E421, aspartame E951, acesulfame K E950.

Various flavors, natural and artificial, depending on the intended flavor of the gum.

E422, when it enters the bloodstream, causes intoxication of the body.

E321 increases the level of bad cholesterol.

E322 increases the production of saliva, which subsequently negatively affects the gastrointestinal tract.

Citric acid can provoke the formation of tumors.

Chewing gum "Eclipse"

The composition of the chewing gum "Eclipse" is as follows:

The base is latex.

Sweeteners - maltitol, sorbitol, mannitol, acesulfame K, aspartame.

Flavors are used natural and identical to natural. They depend on the taste of chewing gum.

Coloring agents - calcium carbonate 4%, E 171, blue dye, E 132.

Additional substances - E 414 (gum arabic), stabilizer E 422, glazing agent E 903, antioxidant E 321.

Chewing gum "Avalanche of freshness"

Chewing gum "Avalanche of freshness" goes on sale in the form of small balls and green.

Such chewing gum is sold not in packaged packages of several pieces, but by weight. But basically, the sale of such chewing gum is carried out through special machines - by the piece.

Chewing gum "Avalanche of freshness" has the following composition: latex, powdered sugar, caramel syrup, glucose, Bubble Gum and Menthol flavoring, coloring components "shiny blue" and "sea wave", E171, E903.

If we evaluate the composition of chewing gums, the conclusion about their "usefulness" suggests itself. However, rarely does anyone think about the consequences that chewing gum can cause.

On the other hand, chewing gum can help out in some situations.

As early as the beginning of the 20th century, the ideal formula was derived:

  • 60% sugar or sweeteners;
  • 20% rubber;
  • 1% flavor;
  • 19% corn syrup.

If natural rubber was originally used, now synthetic polymers are more common in the composition. For example, polyisobutylene.

The basis of modern chewing gum There are 4 types of components: base, flavoring agents, dyes, sweeteners.

Various nutritional supplements

Latex

It is a rubber base.

It is considered harmless, but comprehensive studies have not been conducted.

In order for rubber to remain elastic for a long time, glycerin, lecithin and other emulsifiers are added to it.

Flavors

use to improve taste and smell. They are natural: essential oils, extracts, products containing aromatic components of fruits, spices, and so on.

Or fragrances identical to natural. Such as vanillin, ethyl acetate, ethyl formate and others. Animal experiments have shown the destructive effect of such flavors on the body's metabolism. Especially dangerous for the child's body.

Flavorings irritate the oral mucosa and contribute to the formation of wounds.

In addition, the packages usually do not indicate which flavors are used. It is impossible to check what enters the body.

Dyes

Regardless of origin, they are strong allergens. E120 is obtained from plants (part of the Orbit), E141 from insects E160a - carotene. E171 - titanium white, which was not previously allowed in the food industry. Some gums contain E131, a dye that has a pronounced carcinogenic property.

Sweeteners

As can be seen from the table, pure sugar is rarely used. Its substitutes are more popular, as they retain the sweet taste of the product longer.

Sugar with prolonged contact with tooth enamel, it provokes the growth of microbes, which contributes to the development of caries.

Aspartame is a very popular sweetener. In the body it is broken down into methanol and amino acids. Methanol is toxic acts on the vascular and nervous systems of a person. May cause headache, nausea, weakness. Animal experiments have shown that with long-term use of aspartame, oncological diseases develop. This is due to the fact that when the temperature rises, methanol turns into formaldehyde. A safe dose is considered to be no more than 3 g per day.

Mannitol, maltitol, xylitol can cause indigestion, in large doses have a laxative effect. This effect occurs when using a package (10 pieces) per day. Xylitol also contributes to the formation of kidney stones.

Sorbitol and isomalt also have a laxative effect when the dose is exceeded by 30–50 g. They cause flatulence.

Acesulfame-K refers to food sweeteners medium degree of danger. Considered a carcinogen. Although EU scientists deny the connection between the supplement and the occurrence of tumors.

Additional components

Glycerol E422, when it enters the bloodstream, poisons the body, affecting the state of the blood.

Antioxidants increase blood cholesterol levels.

Emulsifier E322 enhances salivation, with prolonged chewing, the work of the gastrointestinal tract is disrupted.

Lemon acid long-term use causes blood diseases. Contributes to the formation of tumors.

Butyl And menthol cause a local allergic reaction - the skin around the mouth becomes inflamed.

This is not a complete list of components. Many components accumulate in the body and can become a time bomb for your health.

The benefits and harms of chewing gum, its pros and cons

How does chewing this product affect the body?

Positive sides:

  1. To some extent cleans the teeth from food debris. Part sticks to the gum, and part is washed out by saliva, which is released in a larger volume during chewing.
  2. Chewing provokes increased secretion of gastric juice. Therefore, it is recommended to chew only after eating. This speeds up the process of digestion.
  3. Helps to quickly eliminate bad breath.
  4. The process of chewing reduces nervous tension. Helps to relax in stressful situations.

Negative sides:

  • A lot of saliva is released. Once in the stomach, it dilutes the gastric juice, lowering its acidity. As a result, more acid is produced. If chewed on an empty stomach, acid corrodes its walls. Frequent irritation causes diseases of the stomach;
  • dangerous for fillings, dentures. Provokes a violation of their integrity. The jaw is overstressed, dislocation may develop;
  • The ingredients are far from harmless. Many have not been fully explored. Can accumulate in the body and provoke disease;
  • sugar with prolonged contact with enamel contributes to the development of caries;
  • a large number of pads consumed per day (15-20 pieces) causes a sharp weight loss and upset of the intestines.

Chewing after eating for 5-15 minutes will not harm your health. But it is more useful to brush your teeth or eat a hard vegetable or fruit (apple, carrot). It will also clean your teeth.

Can children chew gum?

Of course, parents decide whether or not to give treats to the baby. But doctors do not recommend giving this product to children under the age of three. It is better to postpone acquaintance with this product until the fourth anniversary.

Dangers for the child's body:

  1. The tooth enamel of babies is much thinner than that of adults; prolonged chewing makes it thinner.
  2. Dyes, flavors and other additives have a bad effect on children's health. Dangerous doses of harmful substances for children are many times less than for adults. Therefore, if you use this product, then with a minimum amount of dangerous components.
  3. Safe use time is 5 minutes. But few people follow it. Do not allow the child to chew for more than 15 minutes. And only after eating.
  4. It is noted that children who are used to chewing gum are more likely to become addicted to bad habits in adulthood.
  5. Toddlers often swallow gum. This can lead to serious conditions. There have been cases when sticky chewing gum blocked the intestines. There is a possibility of suffocation.
  6. The process of chewing weakens attention. And in children, it is already scattered. Frequent use of chewing gum can cause developmental delays.

Better introduce the child to this product as soon as possible. Do not allow uncontrolled chewing for a long time. Make sure that the baby does not play with chewing gum in his mouth, in order to avoid accidental swallowing or getting the gum into the respiratory tract.

Thus, it is a product of dubious benefit. More harm from it. You can use it only after meals and for a short time. Better not get used to chewing gum. Children should be given as little as possible. It is difficult for a child's body to cope with a large number of harmful substances contained in it.

You can not use this product for diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, inflammation in the oral cavity. He will not replace brushing your teeth.

At the end, we invite you to watch a video on this topic:

Brand: Orbit / Orbit

Tagline: Eat. Drink. Chew. Orbit

Industry: confectionery industry

Products: chewing gum

Year of brand foundation: 1944

Owner: Mars Inc.

Chewing gum Orbit is a global brand preferred by millions of people around the world. Orbit is manufactured by Wrigley. In 2008, the Wrigley Company became part of the vast Mars Inc empire.

This chewing gum owes its appearance to the Second World War. After the United States joined it, the production of a huge country switched to military needs. The Wrigley Company was no exception, which was already considered the leading manufacturer of chewing gum. Such well-known varieties of chewing gum as Juicy Fruit, Wrigley's Spearmint and Doublemint began to be produced exclusively for the military. But civilians were forced to do without them - there was tension in the country with high-quality components, so the Wrigley Company simply could not provide everyone with its products. We did not want to increase production volumes at the expense of quality. But an original way out of this situation was found - the Wrigley Company created another brand. So born Orbit.

To create this chewing gum, less quality ingredients were used than for the main brands (for example, corn syrup). The gum contained sugar, which meant it was bad for your teeth. However, the manufacturer honestly informed its consumers about all this.

Orbit
was offered as a temporary replacement for quality chewing gum in difficult times. However, towards the end of the war, the shortage of quality ingredients became so noticeable that Orbit began to deliver also to the front. The most interesting thing is that the Wrigley Company continued to advertise its main brands - ads appeared in the style of "don't forget about them, they will be back soon."

Immediately after the end of the war, in 1946, the production Orbit was rolled up. As it was then believed, forever (well, or until the next world war).

Orbit chewing gum Orbit returned to the shelves only 30 years later in 1976, when they began selling in Germany, Switzerland and Holland. It was Wrigley's first sugar-free chewing gum. Since then Orbit began to be on sale also in Canada, Australia, Great Britain, Norway, Poland and Israel.

Naturally, when creating a new Orbit, only high-quality ingredients are used. Success was achieved fairly quickly. Since then, Orbit- one of the most famous brands, both in Western and Eastern Europe.

In 2001 Orbit returned to the US and launched two chewing gums Spearmint (Mint) and Wintermint (Winter freshness). Orbit was sold under the following slogan "Only pure feeling". Trademark Orbit gained popularity and became the most growing brand in the category of chewing gum.

Launched in 2002 Orbit a new range of sugar-free chewing gums Orbit White (Orbit Whitening). A new flavor of classic chewing gum is introduced Orbit - Orbit Peppermint(Orbit peppermint).

In 2003 chewing gum orbit Orbit announces the release of new chewing gum Orbit Bubblemint (Orbit bubble gum and mint) and Cinnamint ( Orbit cinnamon and mint).

In 2004, the resumption of the release of chewing gum series Orbit Whitening with mint flavors Peppermint (Peppermint) and Spearmint (Mint).

In 2005 new flavors appeared Orbit - Orbit Sweetmint (Orbit sweet mint) and Citrusmint ( Orbit citrus and mint).

In 2006 chewing gum orbits Orbit series Orbit Classic replenished with two new flavors - Orbit Lemon Lime (Orbit lemon and lime) and Crystal Mint ( Orbit crystal mint).

In 2007, two new chewing gums of the series were released. Orbit classic - Orbit Mint Mojito (Orbit mint and mojito) and Raspberry Mint ( Orbit raspberry and mint).

In 2007 chewing gum Orbit along with chewing gums such as Wrigley Extra (Extra) and Eclipse (Eclipse) became the first chewing gum to be certified and approved by the American Dental Association (American Dental Association) after nearly 20 years of research proving that these chewing gums help fight tooth decay, strengthen enamel and reduce plaque growth.

In the same 2007, a new series of chewing gum was released. Orbit whitening - Orbit White Melon Breeze(Orbit whitening melon breeze). This flavor is intriguing as it combines popular fruit flavors with teeth whitening and a refreshing blend of melon, pear and kiwi.

In 2008, new flavors of chewing gum were introduced Orbit: Orbit Maui Melon Mint(Orbit Maui Melon & Mint), Strawberry Mint (Orbit Strawberry & Mint), Positively Pomegranate ( Orbit pomegranate), Fabulous Fruitini ( Orbit incredible fruits), Sangria Fresca ( Orbit sangria fresco) and Orbit White Fruit Sorbet ( Orbit whitening fruit sorbet).

Orbit chewing gum Orbit is produced in a new series of chewing gums Orbit Big Pack(Orbits big pack). The series includes three legendary mint flavors. Each pack is sealed and contains a total of 35 chewing gums Orbit sugarless.
