Hungarikums. Useful gifts and souvenirs from Hungary

Have you already enjoyed an unforgettable holiday in Hungary and are going to your native land? Be sure to share the joy with your family and friends by choosing for them unique souvenirs that this country is rich in. And the choice here is really great and varied - these are the famous Hungarian delicacies, and drinks, and beautiful clothes with embroidered elements. Let us consider in more detail what is worth bringing from Hungary as a gift.

Alcohol

Hungary is famous all over the world for its alcoholic beverages, which have unique and rich taste properties. The most highly developed winemaking is in three regions - Tokaj, Eger and Lake Balaton.

Hungarian wines are notable for the fact that neither sugar nor alcohol is added during their manufacture. Tokay and Balaton wines are mostly light, white, and Eger, in contrast to them, is red, viscous, with a pronounced spicy-fruity aroma.

But Hungary is not only rich in wines. Liqueurs and fruit vodka leave no one indifferent. But beer, alas, loses somewhat to German and Czech counterparts.

Froccs

One of the most remarkable alcoholic souvenirs is Fröccs (fröch) - a drink of freshness and good mood. The basis of this drink is wine and soda pop. Depending on the proportions of the ingredients, a large and a small frech are distinguished.

The gift set consists of a beautiful painted siphon, a bottle of excellent Tokay wine and a bottle of soda pop. Refreshing and invigorating French is indispensable in the summer heat, besides, the Hungarians assure that it is not only tasty, but also healthy!

Tokay wines

Among all the wine-growing regions of Hungary, the championship belongs to Tokaj - a mountain range where the best varieties of light, golden grapes grow. Because of the luxurious color and the special taste of raisins and honey, Tokay wines are called liquid gold.

The most popular of these are "Native Tokay" made from unsorted grapes, "Tokay Essence" made from raisins, and "Tokay Asu" (wine of kings) - a dessert wine that is aged for up to ten years.

Fruit vodka "Palinka"

"Palinka" is the name of the famous fruit tincture - one of the main national drinks of Hungary. It is prepared mainly from apricots, grapes, quince, plums, pears and apples.

All fruits must be thoroughly washed, cut and pitted. In order for "Palinka", which was called "Carpathian brandy" for a reason, to acquire a softer and more refined taste, it is aged in strong oak barrels.

Balm "Unicum"

The recipe for this unique Hungarian drink was invented back in 1790 and is still kept in the strictest confidence. It is only known that this balm is infused with more than forty types of medicinal herbs.

Balsam "Unicom" is used both as an independent aperitif and in combination with juices of various fruits. As the manufacturers assure, the balm is characterized by a beneficial effect on the respiratory, circulatory and digestive systems of the body.

Rubik's Cube

A wonderful gift for both children and adults will be the Rubik's Cube - an amazing puzzle for intellectuals. Only in Hungary can you find an original product made decades ago by Erné Rubik. Here this souvenir is presented in a wide variety of options!

Marzipans

The famous Hungarian marzipans will certainly please any sweet tooth. Choose any option - kernels of bitter or sweet almonds in powdered sugar or fragrant syrup in the form of a wide variety of figures.

In supermarkets in Budapest, you can buy not only ready-made sweet products, but also sugar-almond mass by weight in order to create delicious masterpieces on your own.

National clothes

Are you wondering what to bring from Hungary from clothes? Pay attention to the national costumes, which conquer with their beauty and brightness at first sight.

Women will be delighted by puffy multi-layered cropped skirts in combination with vests and shirts with wide, puffed up sleeves just below the elbow, richly decorated with embroidery.

The male version of the costume is more modest and consists of a simple short shirt, canvas trousers, a waistcoat and high boots.

Paprika

One of the gastronomic symbols of Hungary is ground paprika, which is an indispensable component of many national treats. The taste and pungency of this spicy spice depends on its shade.

It is noteworthy that the soft pink color of the paprika actually indicates a burning and rich taste, while the rich red is characteristic of a spice with a mild and delicate taste.

Salami

Would you like to know what to bring from Hungary from products? Of course, the true Hungarian salami. This delicacy is remarkable in that it can be stored for a very long time without loss of quality, so it can be one of the best gift options for any holiday.

The greatest sympathy of tourists from all over the world was won by such types of salami as "Peak" and "Herz". In addition, there are other varieties of this meat treat with the addition of ginger, red hot pepper and other spices.

Foie gras

Another great Hungarian delicacy is Foie Gras. In this country, by the way, it has its own unique name - libamaj, which consists of two words - liba (goose) and maj (liver).

Textile and embroidered products

The famous Hungarian embroidery deserves admiration. The main techniques are called matyo and kalochai.

Matho embroidery cannot be confused with anything - in the very center of the textile product there is a large flower surrounded by small graceful patterns. Such multi-colored patterns richly adorn the Hungarian national clothes.

Embroidered kalochai lace, which is called "Hungarian inlay", first appeared in the ancient town of Kalocsa. They are characterized by a unique color scheme, consisting of 27 shades.

Speaking of textile souvenirs from Hungary, it is impossible not to mention openwork halash lace, the creator of which was the drawing teacher Arpad Decani from the city of Kiskunhalas.

Crystal, ceramics and porcelain

If you are thinking about what to bring from Hungary as a souvenir, pay attention to crystal, porcelain and ceramic products.

Elite Hungarian crystal "Ajka Crystal" has been known since 1878. It is the choice of bohemians all over the world.

The porcelain produced in the Hungarian village of Herend since the beginning of the century before last is also very interesting. These products were preferred by all noble persons.

In the city of Nadudwara, excellent ceramic dishes are produced, which, thanks to a special firing technology, acquire a deep noble black color.

Cannot be exported

  • any types of weapons and ammunition;
  • more than 2 liters of wine;
  • more than 1 liter of spirits;
  • over 250 cigarettes, 50 cigars and 250 grams of tobacco.

For the export of historical valuables, jewelry, food and medicines, additional permits and receipts are required.

Pepper is a national spice that is extensively used in recipes of Hungarian cuisine. Hungarians even consume too much of it (an average of 10 kilograms per person per year). In addition, they grow many unique varieties. It is sold in any grocery store (there are also specialized spice stores), in the markets - from sweet (edesh) to hot (erosh). And the most favorite variety is hot red pepper (csilipaprika). Alternatively, pepper is a main ingredient in many Hungarian foods (for example, in paprika paste).

Hungary is known for its excellent wines. There are 22 wine-growing regions in the country, which produce a variety of wines - red, white, rose, sparkling. Tokay, produced in the Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region, is the symbol of Hungary. It is not known when the first wines appeared, historical records show that there were already vineyards in the region in the twelfth century. Tokay wines are made from white grape varieties (furmint, harshlevelu (lipovina), yellow muscat, zeta) touched by noble mold (raisined berries). The "nectar" oozing from Tokay grapes is mentioned in the Hungarian anthem.

What to bring from Hungary, except for the "cult" paprika and Tokay? The country is famous for its rich handicraft traditions, especially the art of embroidery. Tablecloths, bedspreads, towels, shawls, aprons, blouses, shirts and other garments hand-embroidered with floral patterns in vibrant colors are exceptional gifts for friends. The most famous Hungarian embroidery is from the city of Kalocsa, developed in the second half of the 19th century. The patterns and colors of the Kalocha embroidery match the patterns and colors of the Kalocha wall painting. Today, Kalocha embroidery uses 27 colors and certain motifs, making it a highly recognizable style and at the same time leaving many opportunities for creating new compositions. Traditional colors for embroidery on clothes are selected by age. Red, orange, pink are called "lucky" and are ideal for girls and young women. For older women, the color scheme is darker (the combination of blue, purple and green symbolizes sadness).

For the most demanding relatives, it is simply necessary to purchase souvenirs bought in stores selling Herend porcelain- the national pride of Hungary. The city of Herend, located at a distance of 130 kilometers from Budapest, is known throughout the world for its long tradition of porcelain production. Founded in 1826, the Herend Porcelain manufactory specializes in the production of luxury hand-painted and gilded items. Vases, dishes, services and the like, decorated with motifs associated with the preferences of European royal houses, are sold in specialized stores in Budapest. Those who want to learn more about the art of porcelain painting can go to Herend. The production complex, in addition to the manufactory itself, includes the Victoria Herend store, a museum, a restaurant and a cafe.

About a thirty-minute commuter train ride north of Budapest is the small, charming town of Szentendre. It is called the “colony of artists”: a lot of artists and artisans live in the city, and there are also many art galleries and museums. Santendre- an ideal place for shopping. Souvenirs and gifts can be bought here at great prices, sometimes 50 percent lower than in Budapest. Leather goods, pashmina scarves and shawls, ceramics, carved wooden boxes and toys, dolls in national costumes, embroidered tablecloths, bed linen, clothes, Hungarian wines, Unikum medicinal herbal liquor, palinka (fruit vodka).

Wonderful (inexpensive) products created in bright Hungarian traditions, but with modern design - the Folqa collection. Figurines, accessories, decorative items for the kitchen (napkins, coasters, fridge magnets) are souvenirs that Hungarians can be proud of and recommend to every tourist in the country. Folqa Collection souvenir shops in all major cities in Hungary.

More original souvenirs and gifts from Hungary: Trabant mini-cars, sports shoes from the iconic Hungarian brand Tisza Cipő, a magic cube (Rubik's Cube), engravings from Printa, a large gift shop on Sebastian Rumbach Street ( near the Small Synagogue), sets of marzipan sweets, figurines and models made of marzipan paste (in the souvenir shop of the Marzipan Museum in Szentendre).

Your vacation has come to an end, and you are thinking about what to bring back from Hungary as a souvenir to please your loved ones and friends. But here's the problem: what kind of hotel to choose so that it reminds of this particular country?

In fact, you don’t have to “puzzle your head” because the country is rich in unique souvenirs, famous Hungarian delicacies and spices, and handicrafts. It remains only to decide whether it will be a gastronomic surprise, or a gift made by true masters.

Delicious gastronomic gifts

Hungary is famous for its delicious gastronomic hungaricums.

The word hungaricum comes from Hungary (Hungary) and unicum (unique). And if you hear this word somewhere in a description or conversation, you can be sure: we are talking about a unique, typically Hungarian product, object or phenomenon.

So, what gastronomic hungaricums can be brought from Hungary as a gift.

Garland of red pepper or garlic

Not a single dish of Hungarian cuisine is complete without red hot capsicum, onion or garlic.

With such garlands, you can not only decorate your kitchen, but also use the fruits immediately for their intended purpose.

By the way, Hungarian housewives are sure that such garlands not only give a unique taste to any dish, but also drive away vampires and evil spirits.

Paprika

Paprika is one of the gastronomic symbols of Hungary. Not a single traditional Hungarian dish, such as goulash, roast, paprikash or perkelt, is complete without the addition of this spice.

Paprika is ground red pepper. To make paprika, the core and seeds are removed from pepper pods, and the dried shell and pulp are ground into powder. Paprika is made in powder or paste form. Currently, several types of paprika are produced in Hungary:

  • acute (Különleges).
  • especially acute (csipossegmentes).
  • sweet noble (Édesnemes).
  • pink (Rozsa).
  • burning acute (Erős).
  • gastronomic (csemege).
  • semi-sweet (fél-édes).
  • pickled (paprika savanyúság).

The taste and pungency of paprika is directly related to its color. It is curious that bright red paprika has a mild and delicate taste and aroma, but the pink wig, on the contrary, has a burning and rich taste.

If you, already at home, want to remember delicious Hungarian goulash, then be sure to take a piece of fragrant and spicy taste with you.

Salami

If you do not know what to bring from Hungary as a gift, then you will absolutely hit the top ten if you bring salami.

Everyone knows about the gastronomic tastes of the Hungarians. Many of the products and dishes of Hungarian cuisine are not just food, but rather even part of the culture. And salami just falls into this category. What varieties of this sausage are not:

  • "Winter" salami Pick, covered with a white coating (noble useful mold), like frost. By the way, this type of sausage is a gastronomic hallmark of Hungary. Because of its white coating, Pick salami is often called téliszalámi, which means "winter" in Hungarian.
  • Another sausage that is hungaricum and a symbol of Hungary is Herz Budapest salami. It is also covered with noble mold. Although these Pick sausages look similar to each other, and even, as they say, their production technology is the same, their taste is completely different from each other.

  • In addition to Pick and Herz salami, hungaricums also include Debrecen sausages (traditional Hungarian sausages in a natural sheep intestine casing, made from pork and beef with the addition of paprika) and Gyulai sausage.

You will find a huge selection of different sausages on the famous. I advise you to buy sausage there, because in order to choose a sausage for you, the seller will let you try several of its varieties, and you can always agree with the seller on a small discount (for a magnet =)).

You can safely buy these delicacies and not worry about them spoiling along the way. The manufacturing technology of sausages is such that they are perfectly stored at a temperature of +20C.

Foie gras

Another famous Hungarian hungaricum is foie gras (goose liver). In Hungarian, this delicacy sounds like: libamaj, which means liba (goose) and maj (liver). Canned foie gras is sold in metal containers for long-term storage.

Marzipans and chocolate Stohmer

Hungary cannot be called the birthplace of marzipans, but, nevertheless, they are very much loved here. Such a delicious gift will delight not only children, but also adults with a sweet tooth. You can buy sweets both in special shops and in ordinary souvenir shops.

Unfortunately, not much is known about such a delicious treat as Stohmer chocolate. In fact, Stohmer milk chocolate has a unique taste. It just melts in your mouth. A variety of toppings will allow everyone to find a taste to their liking.

Hungarian drinks

Hungary is famous for its unique drinks with a delicate taste and aroma. And how, being in the homeland of the most famous Tokay vineyards, not to bring the famous Tokay or Eger wine.

Tokay and Eger wines

Even the most captious sommelier will not be indifferent to the famous Hungarian wines from such well-known wine-growing regions of the country as Tokaj and Eger.

The Tokay region produces predominantly white light dessert wines. Because of their unique color, special taste of honey and raisins, Tokay wines are often called "liquid gold". The most valued are Tokaji aszu (wine of kings) and Tokaji Szamorodni (Tokay native).

But the Eger region, on the contrary, is famous for its red viscous wines with a pronounced fruity aroma. The most popular wine from this region is Bull's Blood.

But Hungary is not famous for its wines alone. In addition to wines, tourists like to bring liqueurs, balms and fruit vodka as gifts from Hungary.

Balsam "Unicum" is a national Hungarian liqueur infused with herbs. This product is produced by the Zwack family company. The formula of the healing drink, made on the basis of more than 40 herbs, is kept in the strictest confidence.

"Palinka" - fruit vodka

"Palinka" - the famous Hungarian tincture on fruits and berries. For its manufacture, plums, quince, apples, pears, apricots and grapes are most often used. The strength of such a drink is from 37.5% (according to EU legislation) and above.

This drink is also produced in other countries of the Carpathian basin. But according to the Hungarian Law of 2008, the name "Palinka" can only be carried by a tincture made in Hungary from 100% fruit material. It is noteworthy that the European Union approved - this name of this product can only be used by Hungarian manufacturers.

Traditional Hungarian souvenirs and handicrafts

In addition to gastronomic products, you can bring from Hungary as a souvenir both products of famous Hungarian manufacturers and gifts made by yourself.

If someone does not know, then the Rubik's Cube was invented in 1974 by the Hungarian sculptor and teacher Erno Rubik. The Rubik's Cube is the world's leading toy in terms of total sales.

Probably everyone in childhood had such an interesting and truly unique puzzle. There are many variations of this product currently in production. But if you are vacationing in Hungary, you should definitely buy this wonderful Hungarian hungaricum as a gift for your children (and yourself) as a gift.

Embroidered and textile and products

Very much appreciated in Hungary, and beyond its borders, products made in the traditional techniques of "Matio" and "Kalochai".

The famous Kalochai embroidery is one of the elements of the unique local decor. This technique appeared in the Hungarian city of Kalocsa. At first, openwork lace was embroidered only with light threads. But later other colors were added to the embroidery. Since then, embroidery has sparkled with various colors, which were even given their own names: “tulip”, “flame”, “wine”, “goose green”, “yellow envy”, “velvet blue” and others. Now the color scheme has 27 different shades.

Traditional embroidery "Mathiaux" has an equally interesting history. At first, only linen was decorated with it. Now, shirts, aprons and other invariable attributes of Hungarian clothing are decorated with Mathieu embroidery. According to legend, a young girl brought a whole apron of the most beautiful flowers to the Sultan, who captivated her fiancé, in a cold winter. The Sultan appreciated this act and granted the groom freedom. Interestingly, the flowers on the apron were embroidered in a stunning multicolor pattern. The basis of this embroidery is a large beautiful element in the very center (usually a rose or any other flower), and around it are small flowers intertwined in patterns.

Tablecloths, napkins, national clothes and other textiles can be decorated with such unique embroideries.

Crystal, ceramics and porcelain, toys

If you have not decided on a real Hungarian gift, then pay attention to ceramic, crystal and porcelain products. Ceramic dishes, porcelain dolls in national costumes, glazed dishes.

It is very difficult, but still you can try to carefully pack and bring real Hungarian porcelain from the famous Herend factory. The Herend factory brand store is located on the famous Andrássy Avenue, 21. This store is easily recognizable by the painted lion in the window.

And here are some of them:

  • Central market in Budapest. All gastronomic symbols of Hungary are collected here. On the market you can buy not only the famous paprika or salami, but also original and unique handicrafts.
  • Váci pedestrian street (Váci utca). There are many designer boutiques, antique shops. Also on this street you will find a bookstore that sells books by Hungarian authors translated into different languages.
  • Andrássy Avenue. Brand stores are concentrated here. The famous Herend store is also located here, where they sell real elite Hungarian porcelain.

Well, now you are fully armed with information and you know what tourists from Hungary usually bring as a gift and where to buy a real and unique souvenir as a keepsake of this wonderful, ancient and original culture.

Good luck and have a nice trip!

In the shops of the Hungarian capital they sell very original things, and at much lower prices than in neighboring European countries. We will start with the most general recommendations, look for exact tips below. So, for high-quality clothes and shoes, you should go to the boutiques on Andrássy Avenue, you should look for locally produced goods in small retail outlets on the street. Vaci, for souvenirs, tourists usually come to the Central Market, and for antiques and other exclusives - to Eskeri Piak.

Clothing and textiles

Items created according to national motives are very popular among foreigners. Of course, it is unlikely that a tourist, returning from Budapest, will walk around in an embroidered surcoat, a fragrant sheepskin coat or a felt hat - elements of the traditional Hungarian costume, but a cute vest, shirt or blouse with wide sleeves made of natural fabric with a fancy ornament will easily complement the wardrobe . In the summer, a colored sun skirt will look very cool on girls - an invariable component of a women's folk costume.

You should also pay attention to home textiles: bedspreads, tablecloths, napkins and towels embroidered with a characteristic eye-catching floral pattern. In stores, the price range is very wide - for a quality item made of good material, they will ask for 150-200 EUR, and an inexpensive Hungarian-style shirt will cost 20-40 EUR (there are also very simple products for 8-9 EUR).

Alcohol

Each European country (except, perhaps, Monaco - and that's not a fact) has unique brands of alcoholic beverages, which are produced only here according to old recipes passed down from generation to generation according to a terrible secret. In Hungary, this is the famous Tokay wine, appreciated by lucky outbound tourists back in the days of the Soviet Union, Unicum balm and Palinka brandy. The less popular liqueurs Mecseki and Hubertus are also worth trying.

Bought in Budapest "Tokaj" (even the most inexpensive, costing a few euros) is guaranteed to be delicious. It is not a shame to present such a gift to friends or colleagues. But keep in mind that this is a sweet variety of wine that is not suitable for everyone. If you prefer strong "Palinka", then it is better to take varieties of the drink made on the basis of apricots or prunes - they are considered the most delicious.

Food

Hungarian cuisine can hardly be called too refined and sophisticated. Some gourmets may even find it too simple, too high in calories - and even rough. But everyone else will like rich goulash and paprikash with the same paprika - the main spice on the table of the Magyars. This seasoning can be bought almost everywhere in Hungary: in a store, in a small souvenir shop, and in a supermarket. For tourists, they make special sets in beautiful packaging (bags or jars) of hot and sweet varieties, where they put wooden spoons. And if the wrapper is not so important, excellent quality paprika can be bought in the grocery section of any supermarket for a penny.

Pick brand sausage is another popular Hungarian brand that has won the love of foreigners. This delicacy will decorate any festive table - but, we warn you, not for long!

Those with a sweet tooth will love the Hungarian marzipan desserts and the Dobos striped biscuit-chocolate-caramel cake. Speaking of marzipans, this is a confection with one of the simplest, at first glance, recipes: crushed sweet almond kernels, crushed bitter almond kernels, sugar syrup or powder. All. But the devil, as usual, lies in the details, or rather, in exact proportions. Hungarian confectioners have found a recipe that is close to ideal, and their marzipans turn out to be devilishly delicious. Be sure to bring it. A surefire way to get the best quality marzipan for a good price is to graze a bit in the supermarket's pastry section and see what the locals are getting.

Porcelain

Hungarian porcelain, which is made at the Herend and Zsolnay factories, has been decorating cupboards and tables at Windsor Castle and Kensington Palace in England for decades. In Budapest, there are several branded stores selling fine tableware with fine workmanship patterns. There are quite a few such sets, frankly speaking, more affordable prices should be sought in small antique shops.

If your plans do not include decorating the kitchen and living room in the royal style, as well as spending hundreds of euros on purchases, then you can limit yourself to porcelain figurines of children, animals, peasants in national dress, noble ladies, ballerinas and musicians. They are in every gift shop.

Other souvenirs

And if you want something special, handmade-ethnic, then a shepherd's whistle, a whip or a bowl for cooking goulash will become very original purchases. By the way, in some retail outlets, sellers of the old generation speak a little Russian - a pleasant surprise, given that Hungary has long said goodbye to the socialist past.

A place where not only locals flock for purchases, but also tourists to gawk at what they live and what the Hungarians produce. In my humble opinion, the Central Market is the best place to buy souvenirs and goodies that the country is famous for.

Over 10 thousand sq. meters and two floors of the building are reserved for food and souvenir shops, as well as for small snack bars and restaurants. If you have ever wondered about buying something memorable home for relatives and friends from Budapest, then you are unlikely to miss the building of the Central Market. This is because the market is located at the end of the longest shopping street in Budapest - Vaci Street. You are unlikely to pass by an architecturally noticeable building with a colored tiled roof, even if you plunge completely into shopping.

Budapest Central Market Address: near Föwam Square, Customs Boulevard 1-3 (Vámház krt. 1-3). For convenience, see the mark on the map.

Market Hours: Monday - from 6 am to 5 pm, Tuesday-Friday - from 6 am to 6 pm, Saturday - from 6 am to 3 pm. Sunday is closed.

This is what the building of the Central Market looks like

Are you familiar with the concept hungaricum? Translated from English, this is a fusion of two words: Hungary- Hungary and unicum- unique. Simply put, it's about something special that can only be bought or experienced in Hungary. As in every country, Hungary has its own list of cultural heritage, which includes all hungarikums. For example, recently, the famous Hungarian goulash soup and a special type of ceramics are on the list.

Stock up on hungaricum offers the Central Market of the capital. To introduce you to national products, I will go through the main ones that will not leave anyone indifferent.

Market from the inside

Alcohol

One of the treasures of Hungary is wine, but the most famous of all is Tokay. Produced in the region of the same name with a unique climate and weather conditions, Tokay wine is what even Europeans themselves come to Hungary for. Look for bottles of wine with labels on the shelves Tokaji, it's the same. Prices for it start at 2,600 HUF (8.5 euros).

Also in Hungary they produce herbal liqueurs, various tinctures, but the traditional strong drink, like in many countries, is moonshine. In Hungary, fruit moonshine is called Palinka ( palinka) and you can buy it at almost every counter on the market. Take in a souvenir bottle or in a regular one - it depends on your goals;)

Variety of Palinka

Paprika

One of the most significant national products is paprika spice. Red pepper can be bought in different variations - both dried on a string, with which many market stalls are hung, and in canned form and in the form of beautiful gift sets, which most often include dried paprika in tin cans or painted bags with the inscription Budapest. Be sure to add a tiny wooden measuring spoon to the set for the convenience of adding spices to dishes. Prices vary, but, for example, a small gift bag of spices can be bought for 350 forints (1.2 euros).

Paprika in cans

Lovely bags of paprika
functional decoration

Paprika can also be found in a bottle of vegetable oil and this will be called "oil with paprika." We have not tried this, but I think this oil has some special aroma. A small bottle of paprika oil will cost you 980 forints (3.2 euros).

And remember, any seasoning to your future culinary masterpiece should be added at the end of cooking in order to preserve the aroma of the spice and not spoil its taste.

Oil with paprika

Sausage

No matter how strange it may sound, but the Hungarian salami sausage is sold out in an instant. The taste is meaty, there is a kind of sausage with paprika and even different sizes - for any wallet. I would say that the salami is already “festively” packed and ready for transportation (smoked sausage does not spoil for a long time) and handing over to relatives as an overseas delicacy.

On the market, the most popular firms that produce salami are two - the manufacturer Pick And Hertz. Prices depend on the length of the salami stick, the shortest will cost from 1800 forints apiece (5.8 euros).

Also very functional.

Sweets

Hungary is one of the countries in Europe that is considered marzipan. Marzipan is a confection made from almond flour and sugar. For lovers of sweet - a heavenly product.

Also on the market there is a huge counter with a variety of chocolates that are perfect for gifts. Chocolates look very festive, as all the filling (nuts, berries) is visible through the packaging and attracts attention.

There is a small and a large package of chocolate. Prices for it are 1390 (5 euros) and 2490 forints (9 euros), respectively.

Lavender products

Lavender is also a popular product in Hungary! Syrup, tea, honey, all kinds of oils are made from it, and, of course, they are used in cosmetic products in the form of shampoos, soaps, body oils and shower gels.

A pleasant trinket for a gift can be a bag of lavender fragrance. The prices are as follows: for a small jar of honey, you will pay 700 forints (2.3 euros), for lavender tea - 800 forints (2.6 euros), and for aroma oil - 1600 forints (5.2 euros).

Lavender products

homemade jam

Here, the sellers, like real artists, decorated their counters like canvases, covering them completely with cute colored jars with a huge variety of homemade jams. In addition to the usual raspberry, strawberry and apricot, there are still quite interesting combinations, for example:

  • pumpkin jam with orange and ginger;
  • apricot or strawberry jam with lavender;
  • chestnut jam;
  • cherry jam with rum and chocolate;
  • blueberry chili jam (wow, fire, probably!);
  • walnut jam.

For a jar of 200 ml, they ask for 1300 forints (4.2 euros). Quite cheap for the opportunity to stay cheerful and healthy for long winters :) I would try everything! And you?

Variety of jams

Folk craft and souvenirs

Counters with handicrafts and souvenirs are located on the second floor. And to be honest, they didn't impress me much. They sell the usual mauvais ton in the form of magnets, cups and T-shirts with the inscription "I love Budapest".

Crocheted doilies

And the only thing worth paying attention to is handicrafts in the form of knitted napkins, with which our grandmothers used to decorate old TVs, pianos and the center of the table. Of course, there is a demand for them, otherwise there would not be so many offers! For example, people who love vintage can buy such napkins.

A parting word at the end, as always, will be a reminder of such a small suitcase of yours and such a wide variety of delicious Hungarian products!
