How to make blackberry jam: recipes with photos

Blackberries are not only used as the main ingredient for jam, but also frozen. A tasty berry is extremely useful due to its composition, which includes many vitamins (C, B, PP, K, E), organic acids, mineral and pectin substances, tannins, fiber and other components. Therefore, blackberries become indispensable in winter, when the body lacks trace elements to fight diseases. The berry copes well with colds, lowers the temperature, eases the course of pneumonia, improves immunity, strengthens blood vessels.

The first step in making delicious jam will be the right choice of berries and its preparation. It depends on how the jam will turn out in the end. The season for blackberries to appear in large quantities is at the end of August, at which time you can buy a lot of berries at a not too high price. A few rules for the selection and preparation of the product for winter harvesting:

  • When choosing berries, give preference to ripe, firm fruits. Softened, bruised blackberries are also good if you want to make a thin jam that involves crushing them.
  • Take only ripe fruits. Unlike some other berries, blackberries are not able to ripen at home. Jam from prematurely harvested fruits will turn out sour.
  • Before cooking, treat the berries well from adhering debris, leaves, dust. Then wash the product under a kitchen shower, such a spray of water cannot damage the structure of the blackberry. You need to remove the ponytails after cleansing with water. Do this in gentle, circular motions so as not to damage the surface of the blackberries.

A separate important step should be the sterilization of jars, thanks to which the jam will retain all the nutrients and not deteriorate. To do this, take glass containers of a suitable size, fill a saucepan with water, boil, put a grate on it. Place jars on top. Keep fifteen minutes while they are steam sterilized. The lids also need to be sterilized before twisting the jam. Below you will find some interesting recipes for preparing delicious treats for the home table.

Frozen strawberry and blackberry jam in 5 minutes

If you didn’t have time to make jam for the winter, then it doesn’t matter, you can cook it as needed from frozen berries, and not only strawberries. In general, I got the idea that in the berry season it is not necessary to stand at the stove for days, cook jam, wash, sterilize jars (you also need to find them in large numbers).

You can buy a large freezer and just freeze all the berries in bags, then in the winter I took out a batch of berries, cooked jam, when it ends, boil more. I will most likely do this next season, but for now I’m making jam from purchased frozen strawberries with the addition of blackberries.

In general, this jam is cooked very quickly, according to this five-minute strawberry jam recipe. One caveat - a frozen berry gives a lot of juice when it thaws, so if you boil the jam for only 5 minutes, it will remain watery.

Options: 1 . you can eat and such liquidish, my husband loves this. 2. you can boil two or three times for five minutes (after each boiling, the jam cools). 3 . you can drain a little excess juice before cooking - I usually do this and then in 5 minutes of boiling the jam will thicken normally.

Ingredients for making frozen berry jam

For that, to make frozen strawberry and blackberry jam in 5 minutes I needed:

frozen blackberries - 0.5 kg.

sugar - 1 kg (or a little less)

lemon juice - 2 tbsp

Frozen Strawberry and Blackberry Jam Recipe

I put frozen berries (strawberries and blackberries) in a saucepan.

I covered the berry with sugar and left it for 2-3 hours for the berry to melt, the sugar to dissolve.

Here you can see that the berry has released a lot of juice, about a third of a glass can be scooped out.

I put the pan on a slow fire first and brought the mass to a boil. As soon as the strawberry jam boiled, I turned on the fire on a strong one and cooked for exactly 5 minutes.

Take a larger pot, as the jam rises a lot, almost to the edges of the pan. The trick is that it should boil for 5 minutes, but over high heat. I don't clean up the cake.

It is better to cool the finished jam, put it in a jar and put it in the refrigerator.

Here is one of the options for making jam from frozen strawberries or other berries. If you have any advice, I will be glad to learn something new.

Proper selection and preparation of berries

To choose ripe fruits for jam, use the following tips:

  1. 1. When choosing berries, pay attention only to ripe and resilient ones. If the blackberry is overripe or soft, then the delicacy will turn out to be too liquid. And unripe fruits will lead to the formation of sourness in the jam.
  2. 2. Before harvesting the berries, it is necessary to sort out, remove adhering debris, leaves and dust. Washing and peeling the fruits is a must.
  3. 3. It is important to pour the jam only into sterilized jars, which will retain all the useful substances of sweetness and will not allow it to deteriorate quickly even when open. To process them, it is enough to use the oven or boil the containers in boiling water together with the lids for several minutes. But you can close the jars with lids made of different materials, which depends on the method of preparing and storing the dessert.

Bring the mixture to a boil, cook for about 5-7 minutes over medium heat. Then turn off the jam, cool and let it brew for at least six hours. It is desirable that the jam is in a cool place.

We will make the second cooking run after 6 hours of infusion. Place the saucepan over low heat and slowly bring to a boil. We will cook blackberry jam, this time for ten minutes. We boiled for ten minutes and cooled again and let it stand this time for less time, about three hours.

For the third and last time, we will cook again for only 10 minutes, follow the same scenario, bring to a boil over low heat, cook and turn off. This time, it is not necessary to completely cool the blackberry jam, so slightly. We pack the jam in clean jars and close the lids, the lids must first be steamed in boiled water.
