Salad recipe with mussels and squid

The highlight of the salad is that we will fry the mussels in butter. Due to this, the taste becomes subtle and delicate. Even those who do not like the taste of mussels appreciated the taste of the salad.

To prepare we will need:

  • 150 grams of mussels;
  • 2-3 medium squids;
  • 2-3 eggs;
  • small onion;
  • a teaspoon of 5% vinegar (or dilute vinegar essence with water 1 to 16 - I use a syringe to dilute);
  • butter, mayonnaise, salt, sugar to taste;
  • green onions for serving.

Cut the onion into half rings and crush slightly, sprinkle with salt, sugar, pour over vinegar and leave to marinate.

Squids and mussels can be taken fresh or frozen. Saute the mussels in butter. When finished, you can place it on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

If the squid is not peeled, its skin can be removed much easier if it is washed under hot water or lightly scalded. For cooking, keep the cleaned squid in boiling water for no longer than 5 minutes, otherwise it will be tough. Then cut into strips.

We also cut boiled eggs into strips, mix all our preparations in a salad bowl, and season with mayonnaise. Serve the dish with green onions or other fresh herbs. Ours and mussels are ready.

For 2 common plates we will need:

  • frozen squid – 8 pcs. small;
  • mussels in brine – 400 gr. (2 small jars);
  • onion – 1 medium head;
  • mayonnaise – 3-4 tablespoons;
  • vinegar, sugar - a tablespoon.

How to prepare salad with mussels and squid

1. The most tedious step in preparing this squid salad is cleaning the squid itself. I buy them whole, with tentacles. Their taste is much better compared to frozen peeled carcasses. But cutting such squids takes a lot of time. So, we remove the insides of the squid, remove the films from the carcass and tentacles.

2. Boil water. Meanwhile, peel and cut the onion into quarter rings. In order for the onion to complement our wonderful salad, it must first be marinated. Mix the onion with sugar, sprinkle with vinegar and pour boiling water. Leave for 15 minutes covered.

3. In the meantime, cook the squid. Just remember that you can’t boil it for a long time, otherwise the meat will become rubbery. I usually cook them like this: throw them into boiling salted water in small portions. And when it boils, I turn down the gas and count to 60. Then I take it out. And so on.

4. Our squid for seafood salad is ready. Cut them into strips.

5. Open the mussels (I had them in brine, they are sold in jars) and drain the brine. If there are small algae, remove them. Mix with squid.

We also drain the water from the onion and add it to the seafood.

Season everything with mayonnaise, preferably. And now our squid and mussel salad is ready! Let's try!

If you come across one with beards, just cut them off.

Bring water to a boil in a saucepan (about 1.5 liters), add salt and pour the mussels into it. They need to cook for about 4 minutes. It should be noted that small mussels are cooked for 3 minutes, and large ones - 5. After cooking, immediately pour them into another bowl, do not leave them in a hot pan so that they do not cook to the point of chewing gum. Cut into strips.

Squids also need to be washed and cleaned. The process of their preparation is very similar to that described above. Place the cleaned carcasses in salted water and cook for 4-5 minutes. Also cut the finished squid into thin, neat strips.

In a glass of water, dilute 4 tablespoons of vinegar, a teaspoon each of sugar and salt, pour the marinade over the onion and leave for 20-30 minutes, then strain it.

Wash the bell pepper (it’s better to use a red one to contrast the salad) and chop into strips.

Assembling the dish is very simple: mix mussels, squid, bell peppers and pickled onions in a deep plate, add salt to taste, mix everything carefully and season with olive oil (replace with vegetable oil if necessary). If you don’t need to watch your figure, then everyone’s favorite mayonnaise is quite suitable for dressing.
