Whatever one may say, it’s boring without potatoes. From time to time you crave fried potatoes or soft and fluffy mashed potatoes. But there is another alternative, healthier and no less tasty - baked potatoes in the oven.

The easiest way to bake potatoes is simple: just wash the tubers, season with salt and pepper and throw on a baking sheet, cook until soft. But such a simple and familiar side dish can be easily transformed if you include a little imagination.

There are a lot of options for how to deliciously bake potatoes. Let's try one of them. Choose spices and ingredients according to your taste. You can add a little grated cheese or add aromatic onions. A large field for creativity and delicious experiments.

What products are needed for cooking

  • For 1 kilogram of potatoes:
  • Olive oil 4 tbsp. l
  • Dijon or any other mustard 3 tbsp. l
  • Salt, black pepper, garlic and asafoetida - to taste
  • Wine vinegar 1 tbsp. l
  • Ground coriander 2 tsp
  • Paprika or red pepper 2 tsp
  • Leaves of dried herbs: rosemary, thyme, oregano 1 tsp each

You can also use grated cheese, mayonnaise, fresh or dry onions - according to your taste

Preparing Baked Potatoes

  1. Wash medium-sized potatoes and cut them into wedges. If you want to speed up the cooking process, pre-boil the potatoes for 5 minutes. Drain and drain the potatoes.
  2. Add salt, oil and all the flavorings. In addition to cheese, if you are using it, add it 10 minutes before the end of cooking.
  3. Mix thoroughly using a large bowl or large bag.
  4. Grease a baking tray with oil or use baking paper. Place potatoes in one layer. In this case, the potatoes will be crispy and well baked. If everything doesn't fit, use several baking sheets.
  5. Bake the potatoes in an oven preheated to 220 C for 25–30 minutes. If you did not boil the potatoes, then increase the baking time to 45-50 minutes, turning the slices once on the other side.

Serve potatoes with fresh salads and your favorite sauces. Bon appetit!

Wash and peel the potatoes. If you use potatoes grown in your garden, you don’t even have to peel them, but simply wash them very thoroughly from the soil, because, as you know, the most useful substances are in the skin of the potato. I have store-bought potatoes, so I didn’t dare cook with the skins. After washing and peeling the potatoes, be sure to dry them from excess water. To do this, I place it on a paper towel and blot it on top with another paper towel.



Then pour vegetable oil into the raw chopped potatoes and add salt and seasonings. It is very important to use the herbs de Provence seasoning; it is what gives the potatoes a unique aroma and taste. For variety, in addition to “Provencal herbs,” I use “spring greens” and ground black pepper. You can also add paprika. Mix well.


Peel the onion and cut it into half rings. I warn you right away that the onions will be a little crunchy, so if you don’t like that, cook without onions. Without onions it will also be very, very tasty.


For cooking, I used a rectangular pan. You can prepare this dish for a whole baking sheet, but, accordingly, the amount of ingredients also needs to be increased. Grease the mold with a drop of vegetable oil, lay out our potatoes with oil and seasonings.


Sprinkle onion half rings on top. Place the pan in the preheated oven. Bake for about an hour at a temperature of +190°C.


While our potatoes are baking, grate hard cheese on a medium grater. It is best to use hard cheese that is suitable for baking, otherwise the cheese may not melt, but simply burn.

Despite their simplicity and accessibility, potatoes can also be a festive dish. The main thing is to prepare it so that it turns out tasty, beautiful and very appetizing. If you think that this requires knowing some special secret or spending several hours in the kitchen, you are very mistaken! My favorite recipe - potatoes with garlic and Provençal herbs, baked in the oven - is prepared very simply and quickly (you don’t even have to peel the potatoes!), but it looks like it wouldn’t be a shame to serve it to the most demanding guests. An appetizing golden brown crust and aromatic spices make oven-baked potatoes incredibly tasty and very presentable. Such potatoes will be a wonderful side dish for both meat and fish. Yes, in principle, they can safely act as an independent dish - the potatoes turn out to be very bright in taste and self-sufficient.

Ingredients:

For 2 servings:
- 0.5 – 0.6 kg of small potatoes;
- 0.5 tsp. salt;
- 1/3 tsp. pepper mixtures;
- 1 tsp. dry Provençal herbs;
- 1-2 cloves of garlic;
- 2 tbsp. l. vegetable oil.

How to cook with photos step by step





We will need very small potatoes, literally 2-3 cm in diameter. Of course, you can take a larger one and then cut it, but this will affect the appearance of the finished dish - after all, whole tubers look much more appetizing than pieces. You can find these small potatoes at the market or, if you go a bit overboard, in the supermarket. As a rule, it is not very popular - after all, cleaning it is very inconvenient and takes a long time. But in our case, this is not a problem at all - we will not peel the peel, but will only thoroughly wash the tubers. Try to choose potatoes without damage to the surface and approximately the same shape - either round or oblong. If you don’t want to doubt how thoroughly you washed the peels, I advise you to use a vegetable brush - then there will definitely be no dirt left on the potatoes.





Place the well-washed potatoes in a fairly deep container. Add salt, a mixture of peppers and Provençal herbs to it.





Pass the garlic through a garlic press and also add to the potatoes.







Drizzle the potatoes with vegetable oil. You can take olive oil, you can take sunflower oil, the main thing is that the oil is refined and odorless.





And thoroughly mix the potatoes with the spices, trying to distribute them over the entire surface of the potatoes.





Place the potatoes in a baking dish. The shape can be ceramic, glass, silicone, or Teflon coated - the main thing is that you enjoy cooking in it. Well, one more requirement is the size of the form. When baked, potatoes with garlic and Provençal herbs should feel free in it, arranged in only one layer. Even if there is free space left, emptiness is better than crowding. There is no need to grease the mold with oil first - after all, we added vegetable oil to the potatoes along with spices, this will be quite enough.







If your mold has a lid, that's great! If not, don’t be upset. Instead of a lid, you can use baking foil. Just cover the top of the pan tightly with foil in one layer.





Place the pan with potatoes in the oven, preheated to 220-230 degrees. And bake for 20 minutes. After this time, take out the pan, remove the foil (or lid) and carefully turn the potatoes over to the other side. Cover the pan again with foil (or a lid) and place in the oven for 20 minutes.





This time is enough for the potatoes to properly bake until golden brown. Just in case, check the potatoes for doneness using a toothpick or wooden skewer - the potatoes should be soft.





Place the potatoes baked in the oven with Provençal herbs and garlic on a plate, garnish with vegetables and herbs and serve immediately.

In the meantime, let's prepare the sauce ourselves: mayonnaise, sour cream, a couple of cloves of garlic through a press, fresh herbs - mix well, the aromatic sauce is ready for use.
Serve the finished potatoes hot. It turns out very tasty, not so harmful, firstly, it was baked, and secondly, after all, we used a minimum of oil when cooking.
